An Update!

First of all, happy Karkat Day, followers! Please wish a happy birthday to the Vantas family, who are celebrating their 17th, 21st and 40th birthdays respectively!

This update has been a long time coming and I apologize for the relative silence on my end. Working an Actual Adult Job has taken up an even greater chunk of my time than I thought it would when I first was hired, and it’s never really slowed down on that front. I’m incredibly happy to be employed and able to support myself, but it means I have a lot less time left over for hobbies (as you can see, even this post is a little late for 6/12 -- I work nights and so wasn’t able to finish it until now).

What this means for this blog is that things will likely continue to be slow, and that won’t ever really change. I absolutely refuse to abandon this blog, so don’t worry -- no matter how long we go between posts, you can be sure I still care about the Vantas family and intend on keeping you up to date on what’s going on with them. 

What this also means is that, to make up for the much slower update schedule, I intend to switch the art style over to a more realistic/detailed one like the one I’ve previously only used for extra sketches, and many updates will come in the form of fic with pictures interspersed because fic is something I can work on and pick at over a period of time a lot more easily than I can with sequential art. I hope this is acceptable!

The next update should be one of those fic/art combinations, detailing what’s been going on in the months I’ve been mostly absent. Which leads to a question: would you like me to keep posting fic directly on the blog, as I’ve been doing, or would you like to see it posted on Ao3 and linked here? Let me know in replies or asks!

Okay I just have to say that I adore this blog and all the art in it, but as a Jewish, American-Israeli, very proud teenager I am so ecstatic about the Vantases being Jewish because, I dunno, I don't feel like we get enough representation. I'm definitely following. This blog is really important to me. I'm wondering about your Serket headcanon? For me they're jewish too. And very Israeli. Very loud and argumentative and Israeli. Whaddaya think? If you agree, would they hang out w/ the Vantases?

((Hi! Oh man, I'm so glad the blog makes you happy, part of the reason I'm so loud about them being Jewish and south-asian mutts is because of precisely this sort of thing (that and THEY would be unapologetically loud about it).

My Serkets (Serket-Nitrams, technically) live in Texas, so unfortunately they don't hang out with the Vantas family much since the Vantases live in Oregon. Mindfang is white (with French background) since the Serkets in general always read as very white to me, but Summoner is Latino and all the kids (Rufioh, Aranea, Vriska and Tavros) are mixed and were brought up bilingual.

I definitely like your Serkets too, though, and could totally get behind them being a loud argumentative Israeli family! One of the amazing parts of humanstuck aus is that there are so many different ways to interpret the characters and their family dynamics, and all of them are equally cool. I'm really pleased my particular interpretation speaks to you and I think yours is pretty hella as well.))
