A New Partnership
Anyway, with your help, we can bring airbending into the modern era, and make it accessible to everyone who wants to learn it!
“The modern era? I will admit Varrick- it’s a great idea. But I have one concern… what about Tenzin? To him moden era and airbending don’t mix.” Korra had brought up the idea of teaching airbending to the other who maybe weren’t ready to adopt the culture many times before. But it was always the same answer over and over again.. ‘No Korra airbending is a saccred practice. One day you’ll understand.’
But truthfully she didn’t quite agree. These airbenders were given a gift, and whether Tenzin believed in fate or not- they were given it for a reason. They deserved to learn about their new ability. She never had to be an air nomad to become a airbender so why should they? Now there was just still the issue of Tenzin’s beliefs. Would she really go behind his back?
Tenzin had been there for her through thick and thin. Were here own beliefs worth risking the relationship the two shared? Maybe it wasn’t just about her. It was about the world. It was about balance, and it was time that the Air Nomads adapt to the future.
“Alright- I’m in.”
Varrick was already preparing a rebuttal for Korra’s concerns about Tenzin when, suddenly, the avatar seemed to come to a conclusion all on her own. And luckily, it was exactly the conclusion Varrick wanted.
“Excellent! And you know, this doesn’t have to replace that spiritual stuff Tenzin likes, it’s just an alternative! It can even be supplementary for those with an...open mind, shall we say?” Varrick grabbed a large scroll out from under his desk and laid it on the table. The sheet of paper was full of lists and diagrams, some accompanied by crude drawings of airbenders doing various activities with little question marks beside them.
“Eventually I’d like to try and work airbenders into probending, maybe sponsor a few athletes, but Zhu Li and I went over the rules and decided that’s more of a long term plan. However, what we can do is recruit airbenders to create the training videos. I was thinking this stuff could be focused on the practical uses of airbending, things for the everyday man, you know?”
“And what better spokesperson for a new age of airbending than the woman who’s literally brought us into a new age? We’ll of course need you to star in the promotional material, and have a hand in the development of the training routines, because no one knows airbending better than you do.” Well, that wasn't entirely true. Tenzin was generally considered to be the greatest living airbender, followed possibly by his daughter, Jinora. But he didn’t even bother asking them for something like this: he knew they were too set in their ways. Finaly, Varrick picked a pen, and looked at Korra eagerly.
“So throw some stuff at me! What do you use airbending for on a day to day basis?”
