i love smushing together my fandoms, i cannot stop thinking abt a phm x dc fusion that basically fixes everything that went wrong in phm because superman, the lantern corps, and the justice league exist

i'm currently imagining the very specific scenario of the whole unesco debacle going down, grace being kicked out of academia and finding his place as a teacher, and then superman finding out abt grace's theories+paper and thinking "...hey, actually-" and going to find an inhabited planet with lifeforms that aren't water based. so superman proves grace's theories correct, and while he would never go back into academia because 1. he adores being a teacher and 2. even the thought of going back gives him a conniption, he IS incredibly smug. so, grace is right, and he owes superman big time (grace's own words). which is how he ends up studying astrophage+on the petrova taskforce+eventually on the hail mary. (shapiro and dubois live, but the explosion still happens and they're both too injured to go up on schedule. superman AND a green lantern (pick your fav) will be accompanying the hail mary, and it's not a one-way trip in the first place. grace still anguishes over having to go into space, he still puts the "not" in "astronaut", but he does go willingly. not happily, but willingly. cue intergalactic bromance and spending his summers on an entirely different planet)

expanding upon my last post a bit. i wanna talk abt this potential wing au just in general, specifically in regards to project hail mary

so! for anyone not interested in reading my previous, bloodymary-centric post: in this wing au, bird/feathered wings are not the norm. by far the most common wings are insect wings. the wing rarity hierarchy is insect>bird>bat. i did a bit of research, and i couldnt find a reliable, specific number of flying insect species, but theres hundreds of thousands of insect species in general. theres about 11,000 species of birds in the world, and about 1500 species of bat. even without knowing a specific number, i can assume the number of flying insect species far surpasses the total number of bird and bat species

all this to say that, while bird wings arent SUPER DUPER rare, theyre uncommon. if you saw someone with feathered wings youd be a bit surprised. youd see them and go "huh!"

ryland grace has feathered wings. specifically, im giving him white domestic pigeon (aka dove) wings. eva stratt has feathered wings. she has eurasian eagle owl wings. they are the only birds on the petrova taskforce

so i love wing aus right? im thinking abt a bloodymary wing au where having bird/feathered wings is actually uncommon. the most common wing types are insect (i think the rarity goes insect>bird>bat). grace, being from earth, has seen all types of wings. after the quiet rapture, the less common wing types were suddenly incredibly rare, as most of the human population disappeared

simon has never seen anyone with feathered wings before. grace, of course, has feathered wings. possibly dove wings. i think you see where im going with this

i was tryna get a gif imported in a way that was timed correctly to the audio i need so i could use it as direct reference in the canvas and ive GOT IT

ive still got literally the entire animation to do but at least now i wont have to worry about poses/timing/etc. by eye. its also a very short clip so it shouldnt take me too long at all

so given how busy the art fight website is on the first day i may or may not end up posting any attacks just yet, but i have an idea i plan on starting to work on as soon as i get the chance to actually draw

Simon being from an alternate universe that Grace did exist in. But in his universe Grace had all his memories in space and sabotaged the mission and he’s become a scapegoat for all the problems with the stars. Simon has this hatred toward the historical coward Ryland Grace who sacrificed earth for his own selfishness.

When he meets Grace in space he tries to attack him not out of fear but out of vengeance because it’s his fault Simon had to go in the sub, It’s his fault the stars died, and it’s his fault Simon’s no longer fully human.

i swear i saw a post in the phm tag that said smth like. in the iron lung universe there was a project hail mary and a ryland grace. except in their universe grace did manage to avoid going up on the hail mary, and therefore the mission failed. and ryland grace becomes known as the greatest coward/humanity's scapegoat. so when simon wakes up on erid and finds out one of his saviors is ryland grace, simon hates him initially

i just can't stop thinking abt that post. i looked for it but i haven't seen it again, if anyone else finds it plz link it or send it to me, i wanna credit the op (edit: POST HAS BEEN FOUND! og post was by @finnthephrog and it was linked to me by @ohitsthatguy. i did misremember it slightly but its fine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

anyway. i keep thinking abt a scenario where they're constantly fighting/arguing, everyone's upset just all the time, and eventually it all culminates with their worst (and final) argument ending when grace screams "I JUST WANTED TO LIVE!"

and simon fucking freezes.

grace is crying. "i just wanted to live. what's so wrong about that?"

grace is repeating simon's own words back to him verbatim, and that's when it finally dawns on simon that ryland grace's whole situation was, and is, just as fucked up

well saying that finally got me to actually sit and watch it LMAO. just finished it. that fucking ruled

and NOW, i can start watching analysis videos n stuff heheheh. tbh another contributing factor to me finally gettin my shit together to watch this movie is that both power pak and ryan hollinger have now done videos on it. ive been wanting to watch the power pak video p much as long as its been out but, again, i hadnt seen the movie. power paks original iron lung video is the whole reason i had any interest in the game in the first place
