Genes increase the risk of someone developing breast and ovarian cancer. Together with environmental and lifestyle factors, genes raise the risk of cancer.
Some germline mutations in specific genes, such as BRCA1, BRCA2, and p53 are often called ‘high penetrance’ genes because these mutations are associated with a higher risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and several other types of cancer. Voice of Cancer Patients analyzed over 15.13 million messages from cancer patients out of which 30,074 messages from 7,838 distinct users were discussing genetic mutations and testing.
