Gaia-based forum RP set 1 year after Ozai's defeat. Peace cannot be achieved overnight; it is something that must be ceaselessly fought for, and the fight for it has just begun.
The daughter of a well-known Fire Nation nobleman and his wife, Mai was the childhood friend of Princess Azula and is currently the girlfriend of Fire Lord Zuko. During the tail end of the Hundred Year War, she chose instead to help Prince Zuko rather than remain allied with Princess Azula, which earned her a place in prison until Zuko’s coronation. She was then freed, and she travelled to the then recently-freed Earth Kingdom city of Omashu to assist her parents in returning to the Fire Nation and has only recently returned to the palace.
Resurgence is a one-year post-A:TLA finale role-playing experience. Our site aims to leave as much creative freedom for players as possible, and features no required minimum word count, real-life accepting activity rules, no required application with optional biography, and a chill, accepting atmosphere. Our site runs on a new role-play centric software called Gaia, which is sleek, intuitive, and mobile-friendly. We have guides for users that are unfamiliar with Gaia, role-playing on forum platforms, or role-playing in general, and we’re always ready and willing to answer questions.
Judge a person by what they personally do, Balen, because it doesn't matter where you come from. It's what you do with the life you're given that decides who you are.

You may have heard this phrase a few times before, and not really understood what this is or what it's for, so because we're getting some steam, we're going to go ahead and introduce this group, what their purpose is, and how it works. Someone needs to come up with the idea for it in-character, but when we get around to making it happen, the council will be a group on which sit the national leaders, and representatives of their nation they trust, whom will come together to handle international concerns. This would be to prevent another war like the Hundred Year War/Sozin's War from ever happening again, and ensure that the nations work together on international concerns.
This means this council is fairly important to the overall direction the site's going. At the very least, a handful of characters, potentially a large handful of characters, will be gathered in the same place for a few weeks IC, and they'll have the chance to interact with characters they may not normally. Each nation has four representative slots, if we need five we'll bump it to five, and these representatives are appointed by the national leaders. The Water Tribes get two from the north and two from the south. Since Aang is the last full-blood Air Nomad left, he chooses whether the Nomads have representatives besides him or not, and who they are.
We can thread out meetings if anyone's interested in doing that, or not, either one is fine. We do understand the actual meetings themselves can turn pretty tedious very easily, so it may be in the best interest all around that we just discuss goings-on out of character and come to a mutual agreement about what happened. It's up to whoever we end up with on the council. This thread is to keep track of representatives, and discuss how we're handling things with those that are interested in being part of the council, and so on.

Yeiju is an apprentice to a master blacksmith slash father figure.
Shin Yu became something of Yeiju's adoptive father. He's the person Yeiju looks up to, and the one he thinks of when he tries to imagine the kind of person he wants to be someday. Shin Yu's imagined as being a stubborn, strong-willed person, with a heart of gold but a rather gruff exterior and a take-no-shit attitude. He helps others, but he isn't at all a pushover by any means. One has to be a pretty tough guy to be able to handle working with fire and metal as much as he does. He is a firebender, as well, and started teaching Yeiju advanced firebending techniques later on.

It’s been a year since the end of the war. It’s been a year, and negotiations for peace are still being handled. Fire Lord Zuko has a lot on his plate, and there is a whisper of discontent in the air.
Amid the peace that has been hard-won, a council has been created featuring members of each of the Nations, as well as the Avatar. The goal of this National Council is simple - to prevent an atrocity like Sozin’s War from ever happening again.
This is ATLA: Resurgence! And where the story goes from here is up to us.
Right now we are most looking for Sokka and Ty Lee but we are also open for original characters and many other canons!

Resurgence takes place one year following the end of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Our story is character- and player-driven, meaning that we allow our players to take what happens after the series ending in any way they wish to do so. Periodically, we’ll write and post a story summary update, which will keep readers up to date with on-site events.
As such, our site is a little different than one might expect. Directly following the end of the Hundred Year War, Team Avatar split up, with Avatar Aang going wherever the winds may take him, Katara and Sokka returning to the Southern Water Tribe to assist in restoration efforts, newly-crowned Fire Lord Zuko looking to fixing his nation’s reliance on war, and Toph returning to Gaoling to reunite with her parents. Shortly after, Toph returned to the Fire Nation and remained in the palace ever since.
The past year saw the Fire Lord’s girlfriend Mai returning to Omashu to assist her parents in moving back to the Fire Nation. For some reason, this took an entire year. Aang and Katara returned to the Fire Nation palace from time to time to visit and counsel Zuko, and the Order of the White Lotus moved some of their members to the Northern Fortress to assist with rebuilding efforts there, and act as peacekeepers in the event Chief Arnook passed away without an heir.
The Dai Li that remained loyal to the Earth Kingdom during Princess Azula’s takeover sought to find Earth King Kuei and restore him to the throne. However, in failing this, they instead found a distant cousin of Kuei’s and installed him on the throne in his cousin’s place, marking the start of Earth King Asante’s reign. Thousands of acres of farmland in the Earth Kingdom controlled by Fire Nation nobility was released, with all Fire Nation controlled Earth Kingdom cities being freed. Only the Fire Nation colonies remain on Earth Kingdom territory.
Recently, Toph has finally left the Fire Nation capital again to meet with Earth King Asante and begin negotiation regarding the colonies for Zuko. As she opted not to take a ship, asking the Avatar for a ride on Appa instead, the Avatar is also discussing matters with the new Earth King, though their meeting started off perhaps on a bad foot. Mai has recently returned to the palace, as has Lady Ursa, and several army Generals that defected during Ozai’s reign. The Fire Nation is threatening to fall into a dangerous famine, and the Fire Lord is in over his head trying to redirect the Nation’s economy and change where it gets its necessary resources before it’s too late. At the same time, his sister, the Princess Azula, has returned to the palace from the mental facility she was formerly housed in, and her mental state is still very fragile, and perhaps the princess herself still very dangerous.
A visitor has also come to the Fire Nation capital, and the news Kasang of the Fire Nation colonies brings will be quite unpleasant for everyone indeed. Peace must be fought for, and the fight has only just begun.
A once-loyal General under Fire Lord Ozai’s command, General Surya commanded several units of the Fire Nation Army and was well-liked and respected. He had one son, lost a second, and was at one time married, but has since divorced. Following Prince Zuko’s banishment from the Fire Nation, General Surya was one of the first to leave after him, becoming one of the few to desert the Fire Nation Army and live to tell about it. He and his son Agneya fled to the Northern Fortress, where Surya was born and raised, to live with his elder brother. Since Zuko’s coronation, Surya has returned from the North and pledged service to Fire Lord Zuko.

The sea isn't rude. It is utterly indifferent to humans and does what it will.

Before the end of the Hundred Year War, the Dai Li was an elite earthbender force trained by Avatar Kyoshi, whose purpose was to preserve and protect the cultural heritage of Ba Sing Se. However, command of them was misused by the malicious Long Feng, who sought to exert control over Ba Sing Se’s populace and the Earth King. The Dai Li later passed into the hands of the Fire Nation Princess, Azula, who used her control of the Dai Li to pull off a coup and overthrow the Earth King, claiming the capital for the Fire Nation.
Following the end of the War, the Dai Li have been essentially leaderless. The search for the Earth King fell through, but one in the Dai Li itself was found to be distantly related to the former King. After his ascension, the new Earth King Asante acted as de-facto leader, until Toph Beifong returned to Ba Sing Se, and Asante managed to pass leadership to her.
The Dai Li are now undergoing rigorous retraining, as Toph weeds out troublesome members, and teaches her new army metalbending.

Kailani and Iname have a mother, Ishtar, and a grandmother, Suilin. I'd like to see both played.
Ishtar is envisioned as somewhat saucy and take-no-shit. She's had to get a strong backbone because the War wouldn't let her have anything but. She's never really been afraid to speak her mind (and she did let the Northern Tribe know what she thought about their misogynistic rules about learning combative waterbending), but she's more concerned about her kids and not about changing the world. I like to think she's diplomatic when she wants to be.
Suilin is actually almost her daughter's opposite. Suilin kept her head down to keep her family safe. Her mother was an airbender, and Suilin learned early not to draw attention to them, because both said airbender mother, and she herself, look very much like Air Nomads. Suilin is, however, a waterbender, and mastered healing with it, and then branched into herbal medicine, this she passed onto her granddaughter.

It's easy to blame everyone related to that place for what happened. But the Fire Nation was oppressed, too, and its people suffered the same. They're all just people like you and me, trying to make a life. I know it's hard, but maybe try seeing people, and not Fire Nationals. Most of them are good people at heart, just misguided. Nothing's ever as black and white as we like to make it sound.
We have moved back to Gaia (no worries to any of our members, absolutely everything was moved over! and the original Jcink is still accessible!)
With the move back to Gaia I wanted to discuss some of the finer points of the software
* One account to access everything character related. You need one user name, and all of your characters are linked to it. There is no switching, there is no logging in. It’s all modifiable from your main account.
* You do not need to provide us with your email unless you choose to put it in your contact field. Gaia does not use it!
* Opt in ability for mature content (for adult players!)
* Automatic Thread Tracker if you post in a thread with a character, the thread will automatically go to their tracker!
