the so-called geniuses are scammers. the groundbreaking corporations magazines rave about are built on child labor. intelligence is misused and discarded. intellectualism is only valued as long as it profits for corporate. there are many important people we'll never hear about while the jame eagans keep winning. oh severance you really are a tv show airing in 2025.

Ether as a precursor to severance! Harmony creating the technology only to have all the credit go to Jame Eagan! Severance being pushed to the public before it’s been fully researched! History repeating itself!

Ether as an anesthetic was a medical marvel in the 19th century. It was pioneered by Crawford Long in 1842, but dentist Thomas Morton pushed to gain credit after his first heavily publicized usage in 1846.

Long had delayed publishing his findings so that he could sufficiently research the efficacy. Morton was so hungry for credit that he tried patenting ether under another name, sought government funding, and even refused a prize that was supposed to be awarded to him and the chemist he worked with, insisting it was his sole discovery.

A monument to the discovery of ether as an anesthetic was erected, referencing Morton’s usage as the first.

Referencing the egregious error, Mark Twain wrote “the monument is made of hardy material, but the lie it tells will outlast it a million years.”

Harmony as a child laborer, but seemingly holding no ill will towards her mother over this fact, and continually grieving her death.

The Catholic Church refused absolution for those addicted to ether.

Harmony was not lying just for the hell of it when she told the two versions of her mother.

Her mother was a Catholic.

Lumon came in and decimated their town with its ether factory, leaving its residents disabled, addicted, and poor. The very substance they were creating - “sweet oil of vitriol” - necessary to survive first the horrors of the labor, and then the after effects.

Harmony’s mother’s health deteriorated from the labor, and watched her child start down the same path. There was no forgiveness for an inescapable situation - they were condemned to hell by Lumon.

Harmony’s mother became an atheist.

Eternal hell was irrelevant if there was no chance for absolution. If hell existed, they were already in it.
