A young fried Oscar with a skater who I still look up to this day. Sammy Baca is a legit gangsta! Wish I was a little more coherent when this photo was taken.
Columbia Pike Ramp | 2012
I had an older neighbor who lived a block away, Ms. White. One day I was skating past her house as she was tending to her garden in the front yard, and she called me over. She led me to a decent sized garage in her backyard, and unlocked the gate to reveal a mini ramp that covered the whole space. Her sons all skated in the 90′s, and as they all moved on and moved out she never brought herself to tear the ramp down. At first she told me that if it were ever too cold or rainy to skate outdoors, to come knock on her door and if she was home she would open up the garage so that I’d have a place to skate. Eventually I was there so often that she gave me my own key. I had some of the craziest sessions of my life there and met so many of the people I grew to skate with for years to come thru my access to the ramp. Unfortunately in 2013, her oldest son bought her house from her and she retired. He is a full time firefighter who no longer had the need for a ramp in his garage. He tore it out and replaced it with a home gym. I still think about all of the amazing times I had around the corner from my house, every single time I skate past it. RIP ATOWN MINI.
