My Choice Is... || audreycolfer
When prince smiled at her, Audrey blushed as much as he did, and smiled back. The first impression of the palace for her was, that they had amazing food. She never ate bad herself at home, but this meat, sides, desserts, spices and drinks she never tasted were a whole new world for her.
The announcement about the prince visiting the girls next day made her anxious and excited. She supposed he’ll most likely send the first one or two home, and she hoped that wouldn’t be her. Be yourself, Audrey. If he’s going to like you at all, better be it your true self. That’s what she had been telling herself all night long.
The maids were beaming, when she mentioned the way they exchanged smiled over dinner, and Ellie stated that it was a great way to start. They offered her a bath, but she only took a quick shower. She was exhausted, and even though she believed she had so many thoughts and emotions occupying her mind, once she was in silk nightgown and covered with the soft duvet, she fell asleep very quickly.
Michael sank down into the bath that his maids had drawn for him and sighed in content as he let the hot water relax him. The last thing he wanted to do now was break any of these girls’ hearts. They all looked so lovely at dinner and their eyes held a spark of anticipation of what was to come. Most held the look of awe and others with determination.
As he soaked, the prince thought of his brief exchange of glances with Audrey. No matter how hard he tried, he could not get her out of his mind. Of course he knew that he would have to allow each girl the opportunity to win over his heart, but he was already enamored with one girl that he had not even spoken to. If King Samuel had not been busy with the state of the kingdom and going over proposals, Michael would have asked his father for some advice. What he wouldn’t give to clear his mind and speak all that he was concerned about.
He tossed and turned that night, fretting about the task at hand for tomorrow. He had 35 girls that were all desperate to get some personal time with him. The prince knew that some hearts would be broken tomorrow. The ones that he didn’t feel a spark with would most likely going to be let go. When he finally slipped into a deep sleep, it was late, and the last thought he had was that he would not look or feel tired on his big day.
Audrey’s maids created a simple dress out of flowing material in the colour of forget-me-nots that she adored so much. After taking a bath and doing her hair, they helped her to put it on, and picked out some more jewerly for her. It was a much more comfortable and lighter outfit than the one she had for the dinner, but maids made sure she knows it’s good enough for breakfast. Not that she’s ever question them - they were her safe harbour in the world of unknown.
She was happy to go to the breakfast. So far, she liked the palace food, but she liked the atmosphere even more. There was so much emotion flowing in the air, girls were excited and scared, nervous and thrilled. And she was...Surprisingly calm. She didn’t know weather she made a good impression on prince Michael last night, but she smiled at him during breakfast anyway, when she thought he was looking at her.
