The Walking Dead | 8x08 - How itās gotta be
Iām not usually one for these long, drawn-out posts, but this needs to happen.
Okay, so I was explaining to two of the boys at work (neither of which watch TWD, so they told me I could go ahead and spoil it for them because ya bitch needed to vent) about why the mid season finale was the last straw for me and for so many others.
And this literally makes me angry. Like, legitimately angry. Carl has outlived, outfought, and outsmarted pretty much everyone. He bounces back from everything.
Letās recap, shall we? In the past 8 seasons, Carl:
almost lost his father
was shot
had to watch his best friend get shot in the head after being turned into a walker
had to shoot his fatherās best friend to save his fatherās life
had to watch his mother be cut open to save his sisterās life
then had to shoot his motherās corpse in the head
almost lost his sister
nearly had to shoot his father when he thought heād turned into a walker
breaking down when he couldnāt, opting instead to let walker Rick kill him
was almost eaten by cannibals
was almost raped
was shot AGAIN
lost a fucking EYE in the process
was manipulated and mindfucked by Negan
and almost had his arm chopped off by his OWN. FUCKING. FATHER.
And after all that? THIS is how theyāre gonna kill him off? This is so unfair. Carl has shown probably the most depth and change and hope and optimism in the whole series, and by killing him off, theyāre killing the last bit of humanity this show has. He doesnāt deserve to die, much less to die in such a bad way. He is one of the characters that has been there since the very beginning. Youāre telling me Rick āWoke Up In A Hospital Literally Half Deadā Grimes is outliving Carl? Bullshit. Speaking of, what the actual fuck is Rick gonna do now? Carl was his world, even more than Lori. Seeing his son have a better future was whatās kept Rick going for so long, and now that thatās out the window, what else does he have to fight for? Loriās death fucked him up, but I donāt think Carlās death is something that can be recovered from.
So thatās how Carl (and Rick) have been fucked over. Now letās talk about how they fucked over Chandler. This kid has grown up on this set, with these people. This is all he knows, and heās sacrificed a lot for the show. He put off going to college for a year. He was even willing to work his college schedule around filming. He fucking bought a house for his family closer to where they shoot because he was explicitly promised that he would be around for another three years. But he was lied to, and then told his character would be dying two weeks before his birthday. A character thatās literally a part of him. Two weeks before his eighteenth Birthday! Also, he was told over the freaking phone. This is not a break-up text, Gimple! You are literally ending what has been the biggest job this person has ever had (and possibly will ever have), so you think a phone call is appropriate? And all this just because the ratings are dropping, and the writers thought that killing someone off was what they needed to bump them back up. Even Andrew Lincoln said that he expected Carl to be the future of the show after Rick was gone, as did everyone else, Iām pretty sure.Ā
So to repeat; there was no reason to kill Carl off other than the show runners wanting a big event for shock value. Carl Grimes, the heart and soul, the light and hope of The Walking Dead, was killed off in hopes that their ratings would rise. Let that sink in for a moment, and then youāll understand why this particular death makes me so fucking angry. Ā Because they didnāt just fuck over Carl, but they fucked over Chandler, and it doesnāt even seem like they care. Theyāre trying to play it off as some big story arc and redemption plot, something that needed to happen to teach Rick some big lesson about humanity and forgiveness and blah blah blah. It all boils down to this; Carl was given a shitty death plot and Chandler was lied to, all to boost ratings, which is total bullshit. Carl Grimes deserves better, and Chandler Riggs deserves better. This death was the biggest mistake they couldāve possibly made, because this was the final nail in the coffin of a show that was already heading downhill. Sorry to The Walking Dead, but this was it. Consider this the beginning of the end.

Day 10 favorite brotp: Dustin & Lucas ā³ Stranger Things Month [x]
7 times Carl fought with death + the 1 time death won
things about 8.08 that really hurt me
besides the obvious uh
1. āmy little sisterā
2. āā¦you wanna die?ā āno, but i willā ugh, just his voice and the way he talks. i love his voice so so so much and just hearing the way it broke, that broke me. they asked on talking dead āwas carl really ready to die up thereā UH TF YOU THINK, THIS IS CARL GRIMES
3. carl limping around avoiding explosions trying to locate the manhole
4. when the explosions went off and his hat kept falling off, heād keep putting it on again before walking towards the manhole again
5. every time carl was sent back by the explosions force, knowing how much pain he was in after falling off the wall and then getting nearly blown up several times and also being bitten but yet he perservered
6. rick finding michonne and stopping her from losing her mind
7. when they got into the sewer, seeing judith standing there, knowing how confused she must have been
8. and this is obvious, but seeing rickās face looking at his dying son, the reason heās made it this far, and knowing thatās going away⦠thank god for michonne bc otherwise rick would be toast. michonne hurts me even more bc carl literally brought her out of her dark bad place, after her son, boyfriend and his best friend were killed. she was closed off and carl and her got close, and built this amazing relationship full of trust and respect. seeing her collapse like that, now that broke my heart. they will never ever be the same.
9. knowing that this wasnāt chandlerās choice whatsoever and that gimple did him dirty, knowing how sad and disappointed he must have been as well as his family
10. knowing enid probably wonāt ever see him again
11. āin memorium of carl grimesā i never ever thought i would genuinely see those 5 words on my television but here we are
12. seeing what chandler said on talking dead
13. having to wait til february
14. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BEAT THIS WORLD! LORI PROMISED!
15. we donāt get old man carl. this is not ok.
16. this is gonna hurt richonne so irreparably
add on i wanna hear from yāall
Yāknow⦠Thatās a good idea. Talking about the happiest day of my life will surely get my mind off all the messed up shit Iāve seen recently⦠I had just gone to work that morning. I was sitting at the station drinking my second cup of coffee for the day. Gilroy was telling me about the drunk they brought in the night before⦠Then the call came. It was my wife Lori. Her water had broken not ten minutes after I left. I grabbed my coat and ran home to get her. I got Gilroy to call Doc Stevens so he could meet us at the hospital. I got her to the hospital without a hitch. One of the only times I got to use the sirens on my car⦠It was a small town we lived in. I held her hand the whole time. There were some complications and she had to get a cesarean. I was really worried, but everything went okay. The first time I laid eyes on little Carl⦠Iā Yāknow⦠On second thought, thinking about the good times makes all this seem so much worse.
Dean Winchester | Taxi Driver | 8x19
I met Carl Grimes when we were ten years old. He had come into our home on the farm, with a gunshot wound. My father saved his life, and I gained a new friend. Little did we know that weād be spending the rest of our lives together. When we moved to the prison...I watched Carl kill his own mother. I still donāt know how he dealt with that, if he dealt with it at all. A while after that, when the prison was secure and more people joined our group...Carl and I refused to go to story time with all the other kids. We were twelve, but we didnāt believe that we were kids. We thought that because had to make grown up decisions, therefore we were not kids. I never thought about how much we missed out on. We never got to get stories read to us, or watch our favourite tv shows. Our lives were just getting up and moving. And then we got separated for a while, and I had no one to talk to. No other kid that I would play silly hand games with, no one to sing with when I got bored. And when we came together, I didnāt know what that warm feeling I felt was...When we got to Alexandria, we finally met kids our age. And I finally realized we didnāt know what it was like to be a teenager. At fifteen years old we didnāt know anything but to kill walkers and be distrustful of new people. We read our first comic books, and played real video games. At that point we had never known any other kids like us. Then, on a horrible night, Carl lost his eye. I had never seen anything like it, my best friend was in danger. I felt it, it felt like I got shot too. Carl wouldnāt let me bandage it, or even see it. I think he thought that I would like him less if I saw it. That wasnāt the case...When Negan came...And killed our friends, we knew that we had to depend on each other. More than past times, stronger than anything. But, we were separated by what seems like an unbreakable force. Sitting in a dark cell, I couldnāt stop thinking about him. I felt that half of me was missing...Carl is my second half. I couldnāt be without him...And when we finally reunited, I felt that warm feeling, and I knew that it was because we were together. Because I love him...And I donāt know how to live without him. But I hope that heās happy, and heās with everyone. Lori his mom, my dad Hershel, Beth...I hope heās with Sophia, and...Glen, and Abraham, and Sasha...I hope heās with everyone weāve ever lost. And...And I know that he would tell us to just survive somehow. And that we can win this....But Iām gonna miss him so much...And I really donāt know how weāre gonna win this without him.
Goodbye, my angel, my true love. fly high.
