Summary:

Hermione is a fanfiction writer, and she’s simply thriving—having built a close-knit fanbase and community through AO3 and her social platforms.

At her readers’ request, she writes a fic pairing the infamous serial killer Voldemort with a reader insert. It’s dark, unsettling, and wildly popular.

User Riddle777, in particular, is one of its most devoted fans.

I am so tired of short-attention-span, trim-the-fat culture. All writing advice these days is for how to write like Chuck Palahniuk. "Cut 'think', cut 'feel', cut 'wonder' - only action, only pushing forward, show and move and move and move." What if I could emulate this style, and still don't want to? What if I want to write like Henry James, with three paragraphs of introspective musings between each dialogue line? The music advice is, "make it shortform, make it Tik-Tok compatible, make it punchy, hit the refrain as soon as possible." What if I want that 10-minute prog rock piece? What if I want that symphony? What if I want it slow and luxurious and lazy? Movies. Series. Poetry. Bodies. Everything is "trimmed trimmed trimmed trimmed, stripped bare, you have three seconds to win me over, make it airport chic." I don't want to win you over, then, I guess. I want the fat left it. I want the pleasure and the indolence and the indulgence. Fuck this art-advice that's always "your art needs Ozempic."

What’s one trope you wish to see more of in the Tomione fandom?

Oooo, this is such a complicated question to answer, turtlee. Way back, many tropes were untouched, but now they’re finally being explored by incredibly talented Tomione writers (huge kudos to you all!). It feels like being fed little pieces of everything I’ve been craving for so long.

There’s something almost poetic about it. This sense of losing my innocence in the backseat of a fandom that used to be much smaller, now loud with creativity and bold ideas. And the best part? Everybody supports women here, the writer’s never shy away from portraying the crises, injustices, and struggles we go through in life, allowing us to indulge in those to break yourself against my stones kind of narratives.

It’s raw and unfiltered. Intense beyond expectation. It’s everything I didn’t know I needed. So thank you for making my and all the other readers' life more elating through these stories in which you have poured the nectar of your brilliant genius for us to savor. It lets us unwind after a long, stressful day with a bit of squirming, screaming, and scarousing; which I call the triple S. I am rambling here but let me continue just enough to say at last: Never forget how much your work and you mean to us, Angel
