Want to Boost your SAT MATH Score?
A good score in SAT can open doors to a bright future, while a poor one can limit your options. But with the right guidance and authentic material you can easily achieve the desired score.
In this blog, I will be talking about how to boost your score on SAT MATH. The SAT Math tests consist of a calculator and no-calculator section with a total of 58 questions completed over the course of 80 minutes. Most of these questions are multiple-choice, but 13 are grid-in questions. Skills are assessed in three major content areas that are:
Heart of Algebra,
Problem Solving and Data Analysis, and
Passport to Advanced Math.
In addition to this content, there is also some geometry and trigonometry on the test that falls under the category of Additional Topics in Math. I personally recommend having a clear understanding of the syllabus before you start the preparation. Know about the resources and preparation technique. Also, you should be aware of which topics are heavily tested in SAT Math. I will write about those in my next blog. Math is all about learning and applying. The amount of time you invest in learning is wasted if not tested through the mock tests.
The plan that I suggest to all my students at AURA is to start with Diagnostic test, followed by Classroom training – Post Training Mock test – Review – Final mock.
A diagnostic test is a must for students taking the SAT. This really decides the training path for the student. At AURA we give personal attention to each student in the classroom and hence always draw different training plans for each student. Classroom training must be taken seriously. Being disciplined, punctual with an attitude to learn are the best tools for the student’s tool kit. I believe in a two-way strategy. First, understand concepts and practice a few questions. Second, revise the concepts at home and practice more questions. More the exposure to various sets of questions, higher the confidence in comprehending questions and solving them successfully. Here is what I don’t recommend, first, don’t stress about the time management aspect during the initial stage of SAT Prep. Second, don’t start with learning short cuts. Although short cuts are time saving, you may not be able to apply them in all conditions.
Having said that, don’t confuse between tips and short cuts. These are 2 different terms. Tips include how to comprehend certain words in questions, formulae to apply, theorems to relate to before you start solving. Shortcuts include a time saving method to solve and mark answers with less amount of pen work. Once you have completed a couple of topics and gaining confidence, take a mock test. This will help you to access the capability to solve, manage time, maintain accuracy and recall concept. SAT doesn’t have a vast course, but yes would test you on a lot of skills. So be prepared.
Choose AURA for all your Exam Prep needs, we specialize in SAT, IELTS, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, PTE, ACT etc.

TOEFL iBT Reading Section
The Reading section of TOEFL iBT measures your ability to read and comprehend the information presented in the form of passages. The Reading section in TOEFL iBT consists of 3-5 texts; each text is about 700-750 words long. Each reading text is followed by 12-14 questions related to the text. The allotted time ranges from 60-80 minutes and the number of questions ranges from 36-56. Students need to read and interpret the information.
The aim of the passage in most of the reading is incorporated in the introductory paragraph, so it is very important for the reader to understand what he/she is reading. Students are also expected to read a lot of academic material on variety of subjects i.e. History, Economics, Sociology, Geography, Literature, and Science.
Strategies for Reading:
1) Read Extensively – engage in Active reading 2) Skim and scan the text 3) Highlight the main points/ Take notes 4) Focus on Vocabulary 5) Transition from Casual to Critical reading 6) Use contextual clues to locate the meaning of difficult words. 7) Read the passage even if you are familiar with the content. 8) Use time strategically.

SAT Test Prep + ZEN State = Success
SAT is around the corner! We know you are freaking out and so are we. All those months of hard work is finally going to show result!
Common self-talk sounds like…..Have you done enough practice? Do you remember all the grammar rules? You still remember “ALL” that Math? SAT should be named Stressful Aptitude Test, right?
Have no Fear when AURA is here!
Here are some last minute tips to have your ZEN State ON before the test.
Keep Calm and Face It: Yes, you heard us right. No point hoohaa-ing now. You need to give the test a chance. With 10 days to the test, focus on your weak areas and rectify the mistakes you have been doing. Between fight and flight, choose Fight!
Relax the day before the test: Do NOT pressurize yourself to cram in as much practice as possible the day before. More often than not, it backfires. So just watch your favorite movie or read a good book and calm your nerves.
Eat your breakfast: We all know that the test runs long so keep yourself well fed and hydrated before you get to the exam hall. A hungry stomach does not correspond well with an anxious mind.
Check your supplies: Carry your admission ticket, acceptable ID proof, No. 2 pencils (no pens required), an approved calculator, and some snacks + water in a backpack.
Don’t waste time guessing: You need to choose your Letter Of The Day (LOTD) among A,B,C & D before you enter the exam hall, so when the challenging questions are remaining as the test reaches its end you know what your choice is.
All right, listen up! There are going to be no surprises in the exam. You exactly know how the SAT Test is structured (if you don’t, give us a call!) and you are cognizant of the question types. So, just hold your ground and keep your pencil moving on the test paper. We are sure you can ace the Test, no pressure, but ACE IT!
PS- If things go wrong with your result, you know where to find us to fix it in your next attempt.
