Aurelia wasn’t sure what her grandmother’s opinion was on physical affection but she couldn’t help herself as she wrapped her up in a tight hug needing it for herself. “I know that you’ll fight for me. It was something important to dad that I knew I had a strong grandmother that would always do whatever she could to keep me safe or have the world burn if anything happened. I know turning is probably the ideal way to keep me safe, but I know everyone wants to keep me human too. I don’t know what I want for myself and I figure until I can make that choice it’s probably best I learn how to protect myself.”

I know that I can have a life outside of you guys, and I’m trying to find a balance. I’m just afraid if I don’t take as much time with you all then it’s all going to disappear. I’d rather know that I can spend time with you than anyone else. I know that I had the best protection, but I want to make sure I can also rely on me.

While I’m sure everybody would be thrilled if you followed us around everywhere, you’re a teenager, so I know that’s not realistic. If you want to learn some things, I can teach you. Most of us could, actually, especially your mother. 

I don’t know if it’s not realistic. I went an entire life without my family and I can’t imagine willingly doing it over again. I want you around. But I would greatly appreciate any lessons. I just want to feel safe without worrying about relying on someone else.

Let me know if that changes, okay? They all know what it’s like being overwhelmed by family out of nowhere, so they can back off. Especially Kellan, he means well, but he can be…well, he’s Kellan, he can be a pain in the ass. But, I do get it, believe me. I wasn’t that great with family for a really long time when I found it, either. You know, he won’t say it, but I think Damien feels the same way. I’m happy you two get to have this.

Honestly if they back off I think it would be a lot more painful for me. They feel like a comfort blanket I had missing my entire life and having that means everything to me, mama. It’s just a matter of adjusting to them and figuring out how I fit in with them. I understand that it’s all entirely in my head but I feel like the odd one out. Like eventually everyone is going to realize I’m an extra piece they don’t need. I just need to get over myself.

It’s the fortune of being born to a family full of vampires. Nobody is ever going to let anything happen to you, or your brothers, or your cousins. I’m sure if you really wanted to, we could teach you how to fight but it’s certainly not necessary. We’re all well equipped to protect ourselves, if it comes down to it.

I would like to know how to protect myself. I won’t always have family around to keep me safe and I’d like to know I can even if I won’t use the knowledge. Unless you really want to tag along with me everywhere.

I will never be finished making up for stolen time with you, Aurelia, that’s just the way it is. But that being said, if any of the others get to be too much, tell me. I can tell them to back off for awhile. 

No I actually really like their attention. It’s just weird actually having family in the form of parents friends since I didn’t have it growing up, you know? And seeing what my life would have been like if things hadn’t happened makes my heart happy because I always thought dad was lying to me.

You have plenty of time to make those choices, sweetheart. But nothing you do could ever be stressful to your parents or the rest of us, we’ve all been through far worse than that. Oh, that’s just Kai, you learn to work around it. But Beca and Oliver would never let anything happen to you and Damien, or the little one. None of us could ever dream of it.

I know that we’re as safe as one could be. I have too many people in my life that will do what they can to make sure nothing bad happens to me. Not many people have that. I just wish I could protect you all too.

Mom, I didn’t doubt that I was supposedly stuck with you. I want to be with you as much as possible and I know that you feel the same way about me. Although it’s taking a lot of adjustment getting use to Kellan and everyone wanting to spend time with me too.

True, but I still question it. Stupid as Kellan is, he’s been a live safer for more than just your aunt Kat. But I’ll be giving them all hell for the rest of time either way, there’s no getting around it.

I don’t think anyone questions you giving them hell, mom. I think everyone has accepted that everyone is stuck with each other. At least you and your friends.

Well, I’ve never done college myself so I’m afraid that’s the one thing I can’t help you with. But, Whitmore seems to be a good school, it isn’t far from here. I know Damien is planning on going. Don’t let Kai’s act fool you, love, he has a soft spot for your mother just as much as you. You are right, though, nobody will let anything tear our family apart again. I’m not convinced Beca herself wouldn’t set fire to the world until it met the one I’d set, if she had to.

Maybe, but I’m not completely against taking some time off so I can spend time with my family without being stressed. He’s not fooling me, but it’s fun to let him think it is. I already know mom will never let it happen again, and dad will help her out with it.

Sweetheart, if you wanted more than this town, nobody would stop you, least of all your mother. And as for the witches, you shouldn’t worry your pretty little head about them. If they try anything to tear us apart again, they won’t be successful. I won’t let that happen.

I don’t want to be away from my family now that I have myself surrounded by it, but I still want an education. Just without leaving you all. I know you and grandpa Kai won’t let anything happen to me though. He’s made that quite clear even if it was under the guise that he was doing it for you.

I gave up on moving away for college knowing you and mm. Not that I’m complaining though, it’s what I want. I just wish we didn’t have to worry about the witches.

Please. You take after your mother, and that’s a good thing if you ask me; she was far worse when we first met, and you have more of an excuse. And, well, there’s the whole I’m Katherine Pierce thing. It takes a lot to be ‘too much’ for me, obicham.

I just never want to risk finally having the life that I always wanted. It still feels too good to be true, that one day I will wake up and it’ll all be gone.

I just don’t want to be clingy with the family anymore. I know it can be a lot to deal with me.
