School Trial | Get Accumulated!

It takes a minute to get down to the room. A minute of suspense. A minute of nerves. A minute of absolutely terrible elevator music and the off-key humming of Monobear. The doors soon open though, and the students begin to empty out into the room, finding that they have seats already picked out for them. 

"Hurry up! Find your seats! They should have your name on the front. Makes it easier to address people and all that…blah, blah, blah." 

Everyone soon finds their places, and turns to Monobear.

"Now, let’s get to the explanation, shall we?"

"It’s really not that hard for you bastards to understand. In a trial, the goal is to find the culprit responsible for your classmate’s death. Use whatever evidence you found during your investigations - from searching the area, talking to others, whatever you find! Then, once you assholes have debated enough to think you can pin it on someone, you vote for them using the small console on your podium, there. Whoever the majority votes for is the one that will be found guilty!"

"If you get it right… Ding ding ding! Congratulations! You found the bastard who murdered your friend! I’ll take them away for their punishment - execution.”

There are a few gasps around the room. Execution? Did you really hear that right? Does that mean… they’re doing to end up like Brynja did, stuck in some hellish form of punishment? 

"What, do you think this is a joke? If you did the crime, you do your time! The culprit will be executed, and you’ll all get to watch as they make up for their heinous crime! It’ll happen right after the vote is tallied, and you’ll all get to watch it as it happens!"

"I know, I know; I can hear it already. 'But Monobear, what if we get it wrong?'Upupu, well, in that case, there’s something special that happens! … I’ll just execute whoever you vote for, in that case!”

There are some angry yells from students - and for good reason! Execute an innocent person? Is he serious?

"Oh, quiet down. Innocent… Guilty… Does it really matter? Someone has to pay for the crime committed - and if it’s a scapegoat? Well, that sucks for them. But the rest of you? The real culprit? What’s it to you bastards? Upupupupu! Watch your own back and defend yourself - as long as you personally live, it’s no skin off your back, right? Literally! Upupupu!"

"You remember what I told you before, right? If you want to escape, you have to kill three times and get away with it. If you can prove that you can kill and avoid being caught, then you get to leave! Home free! No questions asked! But if that happens… well, you’d be the winner, and everyone else would be the loser, right? And losers get punished… or executed, in this case. Let a murderer do it three times and run away on their own, and the rest of you will pay the ultimate price instead. The only way for all of you to get out alive is to find out who brought you here. One of you around here is the mastermind behind this whole operation."

There’s a pause. Did you hear that right? Monobear laughs. 

"You heard me right! One of your little friends in this room right now is the big, bad villian behind this game you’re in. Try building that trust now that you know you could be getting cozy with the one who put you all here!"

But you only get three chances to do it - screw those up, or never find them… And well, we’re back to the ‘ultimate price’ thing again, upupupu!”

"Oooooh, I’m getting excited just thinking about it! But in case all of you assholes were a little too excited to hear properly, I’ll say it again in simple terms for you."

Debate about the identity of the culprit using theories and evidence from investigations.

Vote for who you think the culprit is, and whether or not you want to call for a Mastermind Vote.

Your vote may be changed at any time, as many times as you want, until the trial ends.

You may vote anonymously, if you wish. ((To do this, be sure to let your GM know it is you by sending another vote before / after, letting them know that it’s you.))

The majority vote will be tallied at the end of the trial, and the winner will be executed, regardless of whether they were guilty or not.

In the event of a tie, the culprit will be decided via an anonymous group tiebreaker. Who is the group? Don’t ask questions you don’t want the answer for.

If you have questions, you may ask Monobear at any time during the trial.

If a Mastermind Vote is called, those rules will be further explained when it happens.

"Anyway! that should be enough to get us started, shouldn’t it?"

Abnormal Days | Don't Go Breaking My Heart

You’re suddenly interrupted in the middle of your investigating by an obnoxious beeping coming from your pocket. Your key card? Had the culprit been found? Had you won this round? You slide it out, quickly seeing the beeping signal that showed there was an announcement from Monobear waiting for you. You open it with a light click. 

"What’s up, chickadees? Feeling hungry yet? Recorder boy did end up interrupting dinner time. But it’s okay! Because you’ll soon be getting your fill—"

"—OF JUSTICE!"

"Or not… are you assholes confident enough with your investigating? Think you have all the evidence? I know some of you were more interested in flirting with little old me instead of looking for the murderer."

"Not that I can blame you. I’m definitely the most eligible bachelor in this dump. Call me, Hirashi-kun.~" 

He does his best impression of the ‘call me’ hand gesture, but all he has are stubby paws, so it doesn’t go over well. Wow. 

"But enough about me… it’s all about you lot now! Aren’t you curious how we’re going to go about finding this murderer now? We’re not just going to do it in the lounge…not when we have that handy dandy trial room downstairs! Remember that place? We had a girl and rabbit barbeque? It was great."

"So get moving down there ASAP. It’s time for us to start our first School Trial!"

"…"

"Upupupupu! This is going to be good!" 

The message clicks off, and you’re left staring in awe at your keycard. School Trial? Were you really, honestly expected to hold a trial for the murder of Yoshiki Shouda? You were just kids! You didn’t have the legal power to condemn someone like this! Which reminds you… what exactly would happen to the person who killed the late recorder player. Well, there seemed to be only way to find out for sure. 

You head down to the elevator, hesitation in your step.

Akuma, could I get a list of public evidence so far? I'd rather not repeat what anyone else is saying.

"Just look at your own key card, everything should be there!"

And he’s right! From the looks of it, so far you have…:

ON THE BODY: 

There’s a large, circular bruise located on Yoshiki’s temple. Further investigation revealed it to look to have a little age to it. It also looks to be angled as if the attack came from slightly above.

Yoshiki is said to have ingested aspirin sometime before his death.

ARCADE ROOM:

Pieces of torn up paper found, talk to Hirashi to view them.

CAPSULE ROOM:

Samurai helmet and face guard found. There seems to be short, brown hairs stuck to the inside. 

BATHROOMS:

The first aid kit in the dining area bathroom is missing an aspirin bottle. The one in the lounge looks to still have all it’s items.

A list of directions and side effects was found on the non-missing bottle.

KITCHEN:

Missing frying pan among the cookware.

COAT CLOSET:

Samurai armor hanging up among the coats. Missing a helmet.

Abnormal Days | Please Don't Stop The Music

Interrupted during your evening activities, you hear the announcement. What was this? An uneasy feeling settles in as, for most, all that lies ahead is a new mystery waiting to be unveiled. For others, it was merely right before them in the most unlikely of times.

Being guided to the Trophy Room, you are greeted once more by the stuffed animals decorating it. Their beady eyes seem almost alive as they stare you down. The unease many initially felt upon first awakening returns, but there is a new, more sinister destiny awaiting you.

They beckon you to the center of the room where you see a group of people already there huddled around some sort of spectacle. Approaching, the answer of what all the commotion is about reveals itself before you as you spot him.

It was Yoshiki Shouda, the Super High School Level Recorder Player, lying on the ground. There is no mess of blood, no clutter surrounding him— nothing. All that is there is his lifeless body with his beloved instrument beneath him. No longer are his hands practically glued to it, and it would never be that way ever again.

No, today is the day where he drew his last breath, and the music stopped.

Abnormal Days | Our Hearts Will Go On

It’d been a few days since the motive. You weren’t expecting the loud static and beeping of the PA system turning on (or the sight of your television in your room blinking to life, if you were in there at the time), interrupting what could only be described as proper dinner time. 6:16PM… what a weird time for Monobear to start messing with you again. Unless someone was playing an actual prank again? But as soon as you hear the maniacal, almost joyous sounding, laughter, you know that bear is up to no good again. 

"Gooooood evening! Listen closely, because there’s just been a major development!”

He sounded even more excited than he did at the time of the motive announcement. This couldn’t possibly mean…

"We’ve had some minor setbacks, but the moment of truth has finally arrived! You did it! One of you bastards was clef-er enough to pull it off!”

No… no there’s no way…there’s no way one of you had actually…

"What? You don’t believe me? Think me a lyre? I wouldn’t doubt the only bear watching out for you kids here. It’ll only lead to treble.”

He was punning, wasn’t he. He was telling you someone had just died, and he was punning. What. A. Freaking. Tool. 

"Upupupupu! Are you all catching on to these fantastic puns, or as they just going over your head? I’ve been told I’m pretty sharp! Other people just don’t measure up!”

There’s a resounding silence around the lodge. 

"…geeze, fine, whatever. Didn’t expect my jokes to fall so flat. If you’re going to be that way, I’ll give it a rest.”

"But that still doesn’t change the fact that one of you is gone. Dead. Deceased. Passed. Better off six feet under. Murdered. Boy…does that make my heart just beat faster—!! Oh!! I might be feeling faint from all this excitement!” 

"While I settle down, you all should head down to the Trophy Room to see one hell of a show! Some of your friends just witnessed the fall of one fantastic talent. Don’t want them to just have all the fun, do you? That would blow.”

"Investigations start once everyone has gotten to the body. So hurry up, and we can finally get this game underway!" 

With that, the systems click off, leaving an impeding sense of dread falling upon your shoulders. Someone had actually done it. They had killed another, if the bear is to be believed.

Getting down to the Trophy Room seems to be the only way to confirm if someone had really done the unthinkable.

(Ab)Normal Days | What Is Love?

"That’s right, folks! I’m going to start giving out motives to help convince you to start bashing each other’s skulls in! If we go too long between trials without a murder, I’ll offer you all a prize if you get away with it…or an ultimatum." 

"…" 

"…" 

"What? No ‘ooo’s or ‘aaa’s? No wild outbursts of emotion this time? Aw man, and here I was hoping to be able to flex my muscles again for all of you." 

He flexes them anyways, a soft bump appearing in the fabric as he bends his arm. 

"Man, these guns could kill a man…"

"Eh, anyways. Right. Motive…motive…no one seemed all that excited. What a shame. I thought you’d all like to know about those you care about most." 

"Selfish, selfish… you have no idea what’s going on outside this lodge, do you? The world could be gone. Your loved ones could be dead, or fighting for their lives. Hell, they could be even doing so trying to find you. And what are you all doing in here?" 

"Crying like babies and loitering around the lodge like it’s the front of a convenience store instead of getting down to business and getting out of here. Boy, what would they think if they knew? They could be putting themselves in harm’s way to try and save you, and you’re not even willing to put the effort back out for them." 

"Still…wouldn’t it be nice to ease your worries a bit? Wouldn’t it be nice to find out the state of those you’re closest to outside the lodge? I have the power to give that to you… but only the cool kids can know this top secret information, and we all know what I think is coolest." 

He begins to bounce off, before he turns around, waving coyly.

"…murder. In case you didn’t catch on. I’m talking about murder, bruh. I expect it to happen within the week, or the offer’s off the table." 

And with that, he’s gone, leaving you all standing around to let the offer fester in your minds.

(Ab)Normal Days | Sweet Motives, Bro!

It takes a few minutes, but you soon find everyone once again gathered in the lodge’s Main Lounge, except this time you’re two shorter than the beginning of your first gathering. You see Monobear once again laid out across the antlers of one of the deer busts, his paw swiping back and forth lazily as he waits for everyone to gather in. 

"Lazy, lazy, lazy, lazy. Took your good old time getting here for little old me, didn’t you? Even after how excited you heard I was, you made me wait even longer… I’m appalled. Maybe what they say about you teenagers is right…" 

"Not that I know what they say, or even who they are! I’m just a bear. I don’t keep up to date on all the cool, hip lingo and sayings of the modern world. Bears are cool enough alone without all that mumbo jumbo, what with our claws and our teeth and our fur. Super neat. The absolute raddest. Sweet! Gnarly! Nifty keen! Boss!" 

"Eeeeeeeh? What’re those looks for? Don’t think Monobear’s trendy enough for you, huh? Would you rather have Monomi back here blubbering about how ‘fwiendship is magic’ and make you live in a bad children’s show? Or that blonde girl who could a conversation just about as well as she could hold her emotions?"

"Too bad they’re not around, or I could host a proper roast for them… or wait." 

"I already did! Upupupu! Cooked sausage, anyone?" 

"Anyways, that’s all you kids care about, isn’t it… what others think about you. I wonder what they’ll think about you after you kill someone… I personally think that’d be the epitome of cool!"

Snickering, the bear jumps up, landing with a soft thud on the ground below. 

"Speaking of which… I bet you all are curious what I have up my fur to convince you to kill. I can see it in your faces. You all don’t think the threat of being stuck here forever is enough to start slaughtering each other like fish in a barrel." 

"Well, it’s a good thing I have plenty more motives where that came from."

(Ab)Normal Days | Abnormal Announcement

No matter where you are in the lodge, the musty air is soon cut through by a familiar popping sound, followed by a loud beep and the static laughter you’d secretly hoped you’d never have to hear again. 

"Upupupu….upupupu…" 

…is he just laughing? 

"Upupupupu!" 

…did he just hijack the PA system again to laugh at you all? What the fuck? How obnoxious could this bear get? 

"Upupupu! I just can’t stop! This is all too exciting! My stuffing is in knots! Upupu!" 

"All you bastards! Meet me down in the Main Lounge! I’ve got a beary important announcement to make regarding our lovely game of mutual killing. You’re going to not want to miss this one! You’re going to love it.”

With that, another fit of laughter strikes the bear before the PA system fizzles out and clicks. While you have no idea what this could be about, the bear seemed to be in stitches over it.

And that fact alone is enough to let you know it can be anything but good.

(Ab)Normal Days | And Scene!

Monobear saunters back to the group, shutting the hidden door and wiping his paws against one another, as if he was wiping his hands of the blood that was just metaphorically placed upon them.

"There! Now, things will be a lot quieter… and a lot less pink. Honestly. She completely clashed with the decor here. She needed to go…for aesthetic sake!" 

"Upupupupu! Look at all your faces! What? Upset that I proved you wrong? Upset that you weren’t the first to go? You can’t possibly be upset that we lost those two overly emotional girls!" 

He shrugs a bit before pulling out a keycard from…god knows where. You don’t think you want to know, honestly. He begins fiddling on it a bit, and before long, your own begins to beep, similar to the sound you heard when you first got your maps.

"I updated your maps with the new areas, and installed some programs on them via wireless. Technology! Incredible!" 

That sounded…incredibly sarcastic. 

"Eh, anyways, I’m exhausted. This all was dragged out a lot longer than it should have been. I know my dashing good looks might make you think I’m a god sent down to you bastards, but I’m only a bear! I have my limits! And as fun as this all was, it’s pushing it." 

He waved his paw, beginning to head out of the room. 

"If you need me for anything, just hit the newly installed CALL ☠ MONOBEAR button. Can’t promise I’ll be wanting to help you all that much though. Depends on what I get out of it, you know? Also, I’ll give you all 3 Monocoins to start out, just because I’m feeling generous. Anyways, I’m outtie. Enjoy the rest of your program!”

And with that, he was gone, leaving the students alone in the dim courtroom, the only sound now the crackling sound of the fire as it continued to burn on the metal snowman on screen.

(Ab)Normal Days | Not Quite Finished

"Upupupupu! Man, that girl was just on fire today.” 

"Too bad she got burned…or cooked… And there was no Iceland around to cool her off.” 

"Kind of pathetic though… she really could have gotten away if she would have just let her idiot brother go to the slaughter in her stead. I’ll never understand what goes through some people’s heads…

“A-AIYEEEEEE! YOU KILLED HER! YOU WEALLY KILLED HER!!” 

"Oh yuck, the bun’s back."

"I…I won’t just sit by and let this happen again, Monobear! No matter how many times I get beat up, I won’t stop twying to stop you! For my fwiends, I will—"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. We already went over this. For your friends you’re going to stop the big bad bear, and live her all hunky dory, like the Brady Bunch." 

"Well, just like the Brady Bunch, you’re about to get cancelled! I’m not going to let you sour my fun any longer!" 

Suddenly, Monobear zooms forward, gripping onto Monomi’s ears, and begins pulling her, rather violently, across the courtroom. She was kicking and crying, in much a similar fashion to how Brynja was fighting just moments ago. Suddenly, a door opens in the side of the courtroom, and Monobear yells to everyone.

"Keep your eyes on the screen, ladies and gentlemen! The credits haven’t begun rolling yet!"

With one fell swoop, Monobear flung the stuffed bunny forward, an echoing screaming sounding as he heard her fall into the room, and then…from the television screen? 

Your eyes shoot up to see a view of the snowman from before, still burning with Brynja’s body inside. And then…suddenly pink. 

It all seemed to happen in a blur, but as soon as you saw the flash of the bunny fall, she disappeared, dissolving into the flames as her stuffing turned to ash. 

MAGICAL MIRACLE ☆ GIRL SCOUT USAMI has been executed!

(Ab)Normal Days | Hephaestus's Furnace

"Welcome to the Trial Room, you bastards!" 

"Eeeeh, normally you lot wouldn’t come down here until our first school trial, but because some people wanted to make themselves examples, you all get a sneak preview of what you have to look forward to!” 

"Now, lights please!" 

Suddenly, the lights dimmed, and a large, flat screen television descended from the ceiling of the trial room, lighting the room in a flickering, blue light before an image finally flashed up onto it’s screen.

The flickering screen of the television is split, once side showing the unfamiliar girl, and the other Bambi. Both of them look absolutely dumbfounded by their new found locations, though the sweat already beading on their faces also shows the fear they must be feeling. All around them was a gorgeous, rolling green landscape of hills and boulders, the dark ceiling projecting some man made version of the aurora borealis, its mixing hues of green, blue, and purple distracting you from the obvious horror of the situation for a moment. It all looks so… natural. So peaceful, like the twins had actually been dropped back down into their Nordic home. But a closer look reminds you, your eyes catching on the steel gleaming of bolts and steel plating that made up the mock scenery and cardboard sky, that they’ve never been farther away from home than in this moment now.

And they were probably never going to be going back.

Suddenly, a mechanic cranking is heard, and a burst of air sounds as a huge, abominable metallic snowman appears off in the distance, a door opening up in it’s belly in ominous welcoming. It’s not your typical snowman though, no. This snowman was nothing like the frosty creations the twins used to make back when they were younger up on the cliff sides of their tiny Icelandic village. This snowman was even colder… and shaped just like the bear which has put them in this situation to begin with.

Another mechanic cranking and burst of air, and suddenly, the ground begins to move underneath both Bambi and the girl, causing both of them to jump back in shock. They hadn’t noticed it before, but they were standing right on a cleverly disguised treadmill…a treadmill which lead right into the belly of the beastly MonoSnowman. Into the unknown… into what could only be assumed as certain death, given the circumstances of what had gotten them in this situation to begin with.

But they can run away, right? They can escape.

Suddenly, large, clear walls shoot up from the sides of the treadmill, locking both twins in, and putting yet another obstacle between them. You can see the distress on both their faces, and they don’t move for a couple of moments, just letting the treadmill take them on course. But then, the distress of the moment starting to turn into true panic causes Bambi to turn on his feet, heading in the exact opposite direction of the snowman, and running against the treadmill. As soon as he does that, however… there’s a loud beeping sound, and he wipes his head back around just in time to see Brynja’s own treadmill shoot forward, sped up by his attempted get away.

Brynja stood, paralyzed, as she was shot forward, bringing her arms to wrap tightly around herself to ease her quaking frame. The sudden surge of movement didn’t aid in the shaking, as she came to a half, her body swaying, a tree in the wind. She slowly looked over at her brother, who looked… Troubled.

This was far worse than anything she’d expected.

Turning on his heels once more, Bambi shot forward, running straight in the direction of the snowman, and right in the direction of death. His increased speed in turn slowed down Brynja’s own treadmill, making Bambi now in the lead for first to die. However, that only prompted the girl to jump forward on her own, easily keeping pace with her shorter brother. This vicious cycle lasted for a few more moments, until the twins slowed down, their eyes locked on each others as they seemed to come to a silent understanding.

There was no more running on the treadmill anymore. Just walking. Terrified, shaky steps, but walking nonetheless, their heads held as high as possible as they stared ahead. The snowman was quickly closing in, the black opening like a bottomless pit as the grew closer and closer. Twenty feet. Ten feet. Seven feet. The pair looked back at each other one last time, a sad smile coming upon Bambi’s wave as he gave his sister a weak wave, just barely able to get out one, final word.

"Bless."

With that, both of them disappeared into their snowmans, the door slamming shut with a disturbing metal clanging as the camera angle changed. Now, all you could see was Brynja in the imposing darkness of her new metal prison. Now that she was away from her brother’s view, she broke down completely, falling limply to her knees as she wept. For what? The days she would miss? The times she could have spent with what new friends she’d made? Her brother?

The answer was left unclear.

With a loud, whoosh and an engine’s roar, the snowman erupted in flames, Brynja recoiling for a moment before realizing what was happening. Obviously uncomfortable by the heat, she began making choked cries for help, knowing nobody was going to help her, especially if she was calling in her native Icelandic. But no other language would roll off her tongue, as she kept shouting, scared and distressed, as the flames grew ever higher, and the girl sunk lower and lower.

Brynja huddles close to herself as she can as the flames breach the inside of her prison. This much was unexpected. She watched, frantic, as her clothes caught fire. And the last thing you see, amidst wailing for cessation, is smoke.

Brynja Sindrisdóttir, the Super High School Level Metalworker, has been executed.

(Ab)Normal Days | A Sense Of Regret

The girl grips onto Monobear, shaking him violently before tossing him against the wall in an emotional rage. And…it’s then that you notice it. You realize why that boy seemed so familial before. It was because he looked exactly like the girl who just attacked Monobear. Were they related? Siblings? They had to be, the resemblance was too uncanny. Was that way she acted out in such a way at the thought of possibly seeing the boy lose his head? Either way, no matter what you thought about her outburst, one thing was for certain.

"…you broke rule number 12."

After the soft voice of Monobear sounds, the unsettling silence returns. You can see the realization and regret on the blue-clad girl’s face as she finally thinks about the full extent of what she had done. 

"Fyrirgefðu … ég er því miður … ég er hryggur, fyrirgef mér, takk."

However, no matter what pleas for forgiveness or pray to a higher power fell from her lips, they seemed to have hit deaf ears. Dusting himself off, Monobear turns to look at his counterpart on the other side of the wall. A disgustingly devious grin came across both their faces. 

"I think it’s about time we took a field trip…"

"TO THE TRIAL ROOM!" 

Suddenly, chains similar to the ones you had seen lock on the blonde boy’s hands shot up, locking around Brynja’s as Monobear grips onto them and starts dragging the girl, kicking and screaming out of the room, in near reflection to what happened to the boy on the other side of the wall.

Your keycards suddenly beep, and you look down to see a new destination beeping, as if beckoning you to head there. It seems if you want to find out what happened to the both of them, you’d need to follow orders, and head to this trial room. 

So, in silence, you all begin to head towards the direction of newly opened trial room, the only sound hitting your ears the sound of footsteps, breathing, and the heartbeats of the rest of your class mates. After a trip through a very Vegas-esque capsule room, you find yourself in—

 An elevator. A terribly cramped, cold elevator, filled with terribly static-y elevator music. But your mind wasn’t on the terribly outdated music, no. It was on the overwhelming feeling of nervousness spreading around the cramped quarters. What was going to happen to Brynja? Her brother? 

As the elevators doors opened, and you got your first glimpse of the trial room, you knew that it was probably worse than you could even imagine.
