WEEK 12

This week I presented my final presentation to the class. This included showing my powerpoint slides as well as my 2 final posters. I felt very happy with what I had achieved so therefore was more confident talking in front of the class about it.

I really enjoyed watching everyone else’s presentations and seeing what media tools they came up with. There were so many innovative, creative ideas including using snapchat and also using cool logos and stickers! I could tell a lot of hard work and passion was put in to everyones final media product which is awesome.

Overall I was very happy with my feedback from my classmates on my presentation. Next time I would aim to memorise my speech more so I am less reliant on my cue cards. If I can do this then I am able to speak more freely and connect with the audience. The only other possible change I would make would be to try a different app or website to make a poster. I ended up using paint which was quite time consuming and does not create a perfect final product.

Colour

It has been very interesting researching and reading up on the use of colour in advertising and what different colours mean. There is a lot more psychology behind the use of colour than I realised. I have decided for my poster to use yellow and black as my main colours. This is because yellow can represent danger and caution which is symbolising the harm of cigarettes. I am going to use a plain black background because this gives the image a more dark and dirty feel, which relates to smoking, rather than a white background which would represent more of a clean and pure theme. Also I will use black writing to display a short message on top of the yellow background. This contrast will be easy on the eyes and also attract attention.

Google+

Although I do have a gmail account, before taking this paper I had never used the other Google extensions so though I would discuss my progress with them. I find Google+ very useful even though it is a bit confusing and difficult to find exactly where things are. It is similar to Facebook but with more of a professional use. It works well for our class to use because we can post on our community and comment on each others posts to give feedback. I have really enjoyed being able to follow my class mates progress through their learning journeys as well.

WEEK 8

This week I have been looking into what form of media I am going to use to create my tool. I looked into creating a short video however I found this really difficult and I could not create what I wanted to portray the message I need to. The website I tried to use was Animaker. I enjoyed using it however it is best to create short cartoon clips which would be more appealing to children. Because my target audience is adults I wanted something more realistic. This is why I decided to go with 2 posters. I plan to keep them simple but to use real images to make it realistic, as well as using children to make it sensitive to adults

I think the stop before you start campaign is such an effective way of showing the negative relationship smoking has on you. It portrays it like an annoying, smelly shadow that follows you around

WEEK 6

I have finally officially decided my target market will be adults aged 25-34. I chose this group because they are the most common population for daily smokers. I am also going to mainly focus on parents with a low socio-economic status

On Tuesday, the African-American Tobacco Control Leadership Council petitioned President Barack Obama to more stringently regulate menthol cigarettes: Studies suggest they may actually be more harmful than regular cigarettes — making this an issue of social justice, the council argued.

Meanwhile new reports suggest the brand is trying to dig in deeper with young people. Their intense $50 million marketing plan includes “Pleasure Lounges” at popular events.
