The mission of the American Wheelchair Van Society is to educate, properly fit, assist with, locate and provide sources of wheelchair vans, discount funding, subsidies, state aid, charitable contributions and more. We serve as a vehicle for positive Disabled Community Activism and Personal Development through Mobility in the areas of Adaptive Driving, Promoting Independence and Transportation for the Disabled and Outreach Programming for Community Wellness.
We have a Nationwide Mobility Center Network in place to serve the needs of all those who request it. We accept and donate wheelchair ramp and lift vans. Providers of Wheelchair Vans, Durable Medical Equipment, Grants and Funding, Medical Specialists, Rehab and Nursing Facilities, State and Federal agencies are encouraged to contact us and join our nationwide initiative.
Our clients have diverse medical diagnoses which include Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Muscular Dystrophy (MD), Infantile Polio, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS – often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Parkinson’s Disease, Paralysis, Stroke, Cerebral Palsy, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Arthritis, Traumatic Brain Injury, Osteoarthritis, Prosthetics, Missing Limbs and other debilitating ailments.
Veterans of the United States Armed Forces may be eligible for a cash payment for a wheelchair van.
