Things were getting bad.
Jack shook his head and sighed. He didn’t want to have to walk after her, especially in the mood he was in. “No, but–” The boy stepped forward and caught the hook of Avalon’s arm to stop her and leaned toward her ear and lowered his voice. “–I know people who would if they found out what you know. Regardless if you plan on telling anyone or not.”
He slowly let go of her arm and began taking steps back. “Even though I know you can’t trust me, trust the fact that what you know is dangerous…And believe it or not, I care about what happens to you so be careful.”Â
“Sadly, I still care about you too,” she sighed. “Bye.”
As much as he wanted to leave, he stood his ground. Jack rolled his eyes. “Good because I was getting bored.”
Before turning around to face away from Avalon, he sighed. “I hope you know that if anyone else finds out you know about…this it won’t be good for you.”
“What are you going to do? Kill me like Faith? Torture me like Nicole?” Avalon asked, her voice cracking at the word Nicole. The anger was starting to subside, leaving her with just sadness. “God, you’re such an asshole.” She spun on her heels and begun to walk away.
When Avalon mentions Amedea Jack feels the muscles in his face contort into a grimace. “Newsflash,” he snaps. “You don’t know as much as you think you do, so drop it.” As soon as she is close enough to push, he gives her a small shove back– a message for her to keep her distance. Avalon continued to mention more sensitive topics and Jack slowly felt his skin begin to burn with agitation. He forces himself to keep his hands clenches to his sides. “Are you done?”
Avalon was a bit surprised when Jack pushed her back “Yeah I don’t, but I do know that Amedea pays to get people killed. She pays death eaters to kill people.” She crossed her arm. “I can’t believe I was so stupid to ever trust you.” She sighed, shaking her head. “I guess I am done.”
Jack sighs and begins to completely ignore Avalon now. He wasn’t one for lectures on life and this was no exception. He shrugs and looks back at Avalon. “Like I said. You wouldn’t understand.”
“Y’know what? There’s no point in trying to get through to you. Obviously you aren’t the person I thought you were. Y’know I hate death eaters so much, you can thank your buddy Amedea Pais for me. When you see her, y’know? I figured you all are acquainted with each other and the other death eaters.” She stood and walked up to Jack, standing in front of him. “You may not have killed your parents Jack, but Faith’s death, that’s all on you.” She began to walk away before turning around. “Oh and don’t worry about me telling your little secret. I’ve seen what Azkaban did to Denairs, I may not be your friend anymore and I’m incredibly betrayed, but I still don’t want you to get hurt.”
Jack shrugs it off in an attempt to forget about everything that happened between he and Avalon. He turns his back to the girl and leans against the desk he had been working on. “Then I won’t have to bother explaining myself to you.”
“I can’t just ignore everything that’s happened between you and I. You were my best friend but right now, I can’t even start to sort through what’s going through my mind right now.” Avalon sighed, falling to a seat, putting her head in her hands. “Did you even think of the repercussions?” She looked up. “I told you Jack, about my parents, how they were killed, you knew before Faith’s death on what a death could do to someone. Did you even think of Faith’s family. Or did you think or Clement or Charle when Nicole was dying?! Jack you know pain, you’ve been through pain with your parents, so why did you decide to bring it upon other people?”Â
Jack stands up quietly and glances up at Avalon whilst ignoring her question entirely. “I don’t expect you to understand.”
“You’re right, I don’t understand,” Avalon said, her voice raising with anger. “I don’t understand how my best friend could do this, I don’t understand how I’m standing right in front of you right now knowing I trusted you with my life. Was our whole friendship a lie too, Jack? What did you expect me to do, never find out? If I don’t understand so much, why’d you do it?” Every word came out of her so fast, so angrily, blinded by her past and anger, she couldn’t control her words.Â
He waits for the mark to appear, only moving his head to look up at Avalon. Jack feels the mark begin to rise and push up against his skin. “Happy?”
Avalon watched the mark appear and she jumped back, away from Jack. She hoped that somehow it wasn’t true, that Clement was just playing a cruel cruel trick on her. She shook her head. “How could you?” She took another small step back as if it was fear coming out instinctively.
Jack flinches when he feels his arm being grabbed but doesn’t pull away this time. With so few people knowing, it was obvious who had told her now. He slumps back into his chair. “They wouldn’t, would they.”
“And I know you’re not stupid, so if you are a death eater, you would cover it.” Avalon pulls up his sleeve, taking out her wand she performs an unmasking spell on his left arm.
“I don’t know. I don’t want to talk about it.”
“There’s the sourpuss I know.”
“I wouldn’t call it a crush.”
“What would you call it?”
Jack watches Avalon’s wand for a moment and frowns when he sees her hair chance color. “Because it’s ridiculous. Who got this idea into you head?”
“That doesn’t matter, I just know they wouldn’t lie about this, wouldn’t lie about you doing this,” Avalon said, stepping closer, grabbing his arm again, this time a bit harder.
He rubs his forehead with one hand. “Something like that.”
Avalon bites her lip, trying to get the thought of Jack killing Faith out of her head. “So I’m right?”
He clears his throat. “I don’t want to see him get hurt.”
Avalon smiles a little and in a soft teasing voice, “Sourpuss still has a crush.”
