She happily followed the girl, her cheeks blushing slightly at the feel of her hand in hers. Looking around, she could feel her nerves building up, but as soon as Avery mentioned she’d protect her, she felt a great relief. “You’re like… my knight in shining armor.” she giggled. “I’m so lucky.”

“Your knight in shining armor? I like the sound of that.” Avery laughed, getting so distracted by how adorable the girl was, she almost missed their turn. “Whoops.. Come this way.”

Wendy shook her head before laughing slightly. “I’m a total loser, right?” she sighed slightly as she accepted that fact. “But that’s all gonna change tonight, and you’re going to show me how.” she nodded matter of factly before taking the girl’s hand. “C’mon, lets go somewhere more discreet. Know any good places around here?” she asked as she began to walk in some direction, obviously not really knowing where she’s going.

“A loser and a good girl are two very different things and you’re definitely the latter. Don’t be so hard on yourself, Diaz.” She happily intertwined their fingers and led her to an abandoned building she knew of near by. “My friends and I used to get stoned here all the time when we were still in high school. It’s kinda creepy, but don’t worry I’ll protect you.”

wendydiaaaz‌:

“Right?” she exclamied, before taking a deep breath in and chilling out. “Sorry, it’s just—I’ve never tried it. With everything I have to do: school, cheerleading, gymnastics… I barely have time to do anything remotely fun.” she smiled at the girl. “Join me?” she pleaded kindly, meeting the girl’s gaze.

For a second she thought she misheard Wendy. “Wait, you’ve never smoked weed? Ever? Like in your entire life?” The thought was almost shocking to Avery, but at the same time it made a lot of sense. “Dude, yes. I’d be honored to be with you while you get high for the first time. What a privilege.”

“Promise not to tell?” she walked closer to Avery, unzipping the small black pouch she was holding. She showed off the goods to the girl, a big ol baggie if pot, a grinder and a pipe. “Stole this from my cousin,” she grinned. “Can you believe that? I stole!” she tried to keep her composure. “I mean, it’s no big deal, but I know he’s gonna bitch at me later. But, for now, who cares?”

Curious as to what the other girl was hiding, Avery looked into the small pouch she was holding and a grin immediately spread across her face. “Dude, you stole this?” She carefully pulled the baggie of pot out and examined it closely, nodding her head in approval. “I didn’t know you had it in you, Diaz. I’m impressed.”

"H-how long have you been standing there?"

“Not that long. I swear. Are you-- crying?”

“W-wha?” No, don’t be silly.” She quickly turned around to quickly wipe her face with the sleeves of her shirt before awkwardly turning around again. “So, what’s up?”

Avery wasn’t buying it, of course. “Come on, Wendy. It’s me.. You can tell me what’s going on.”

“Not that long. I swear. Are you-- crying?”

“Yeah...” She trailed off not really wanting to talk about her date. “Are you having a good time with your friends?”

Wendy pouted even more, “That’s not fair! I have no control over that now. There’s gotta be some other way.”

“I’m sorry, but that’s the only way! Intoxication does funny things to the brain, so you can’t blame me for not believing you.”

She shook her head. “I’m being nice, sure, but that doesn’t mean I’m not being honest.” she pouted. “What do I have to do for you to believe me?”

She thought for a moment, before smiling. “Not be wasted out of your mind.”

Wendy blushed as she felt the girl pull her closer. She gave her a smile. “I don’t mind. Besides, you’re doing pretty damn good so far.”

“You’re just nice because you’re Wendy.” She smiled, holding the girl close to her.

“Of course I do. Look at you, Wendy.” She said with a genuine smile.

“But look at you!” she exclaimed. “You’re like—Wow.” she gave the girl a quick once over and repeated. “Wow.”

She shook her head completely dismissing everything the other girl was saying because she doesn’t do well with compliments. “Lalalalala I cant hear you over the sound of this really great song, let’s go dance.”

“But—“ before she could argue, the girl had pulled her aside to dance, and who was Wendy to fight that? She happily complied and danced closely to Avery.

Avery pulled the other girl closer, wrapping an arm around her waist as they swayed to the music. “I’m sorry if I step all over your feet.”

“Of course I do. Look at you, Wendy.” She said with a genuine smile.

“But look at you!” she exclaimed. “You’re like—Wow.” she gave the girl a quick once over and repeated. “Wow.”

“It’s just because you’re so pretty.” she chuckled, blushing at her own honesty. “Usually gorgeous cheerleaders are shallow because one human can’t be that perfect, but I met you and now I realize I was wrong.” She looked away feeling self-conscious for her compliments. “Anyway, it really sucks that there’s no gymnastics team here.”

Wendy’s heart skipped a beat at the girl’s words. Her smiled widened and she hopped off the rock to walk towards Avery. “You think I’m gorgeous?”

“Of course I do. Look at you, Wendy.” She said with a genuine smile.

Wendy laughed, she appreciated her honesty, truth be told. “Yeah, that’s usually how it goes.” she shrugged a shoulder. “Don’t get me wrong, cheer-leading is exciting and dramatic and, like, completely intense, but gymnastics is my real passion.” she sat down on a big ol rock, keeping her eyes on Avery. “But there isn’t a gymnastics team here so… this is the best I could do.”

She blushed slightly when the girl wrapped her arm around her. Good thing she was drunk, she could just blame it on that. Wendy kept her eyes on her before shaking her head and laughing slightly. “I just don’t get it. You’re just so— cool. And pretty. And funny! How could you have not had a date for tonight? How did you get stuck with a wannabe like me?”

“A wannabe?” She shook her head, kind of shocked by the other girls words. “You’re literally like one of the coolest chicks I’ve ever met in this town and I’m not just saying that because I’m tipsy. When we first met I totally thought you were just another vapid cheerleader-type which is awful, I know and I’m sorry for my judgement. But you’ve totally proved me wrong.”

She giggled slightly and leaned in a little to the girl. “My hero,” she smiled one of those really bright drunken smiles at her.

Avery’s heart practically stopped when Wendy leaned in and she had to remind herself that the other girl was straight. No matter how much she didn’t want her to be. “It’s the least I could do for my new friend.” She grinned back, wrapping an arm around the girl.
