HOT GIG ALERT
Our friends and labelmates Looming will be touring in support of their amazing new record Seed, so we set up this lil function for them at the Elks Lodge in Central Square, Cambridge. oldsoul and Rainsound are cool younger local bands with whom we’ve never had the pleasure of sharing a bill before. I’m excited; if you’re not you ought to go get your shit checked out.

I’m incredibly stupid and haven’t updated this thing but heyyyy would you look at that, our new album came out June 23rd. This album has been in the works since January 2015 and there was a while there where we had no idea whether or not it would come out at all, but it’s finally here and we’re very proud of it. If you want to support No Sleep Records for continuing to support us when they could have dropped us like a hot potato, please consider making a purchase once you’ve listened enough and liked what you heard. Also the vinyl is only out of 500 and probably won’t be pressed again so if you want one don’t think twice before picking up a copy.
We are doing a quick tour of the northeast and midwest with the mighty LUME out of Chicago. Try to get to a gig because there isn’t much planned after that.

Aviator (minus TJ) in Prague, Czech Republic recording their 7″ Heaven’s Gate b/w Death’s Door, which is now available for preorder. This is how we spent our final day in Europe. Following the recording session, we took it easy for the night and stayed in the band apartment above the studio. The following day we managed to pack everyone’s gear into two taxis and began our journey home.

Live images from Pilsen, Czech Republic. This was Aviator’s last show of their European tour. Unfortunately, TJ was still recovering from his illness and hospital visit from earlier in the day, so they played as a four piece for the evening with both of the Mikes handing vocals. The club was a theatre-like venue that was well-sold, and it was really quite the sendoff.

During the early morning following the show in Leipzig, I awoke to the sound of someone vomiting. I couldn’t fall back to sleep, so I left the comfort and warmth of my sleeping bag to read (Anne Frank’s Diary if you recall from an earlier post) at our host’s kitchen table. In that time, TJ kept having to vomit again and again, and eventually everyone else was awake. As the morning passed, it became apparent that he wasn’t getting any better, so we decided to take him to a hospital. By the time we arrived, he was having severe pains in his abdomen and really looked as though he was about to pass out. The nurse at the hospital checked him in, and we all spent a few hours waiting. Eventually they brought him back out and he was doing significantly better from where he was before, but definitely in no condition to play the final show of tour (later that evening in Pilsen, Czech Republic. If I remember correctly, it only cost about $100 for his entire visit to the ER. Socialized health care is quite a thing. Anyway, at that point, we left and picked up some medication for TJ and headed to Pilsen.

A live image from Aviator’s second-to-last show of tour in Leipzig, Germany. Everyone was more than in each other’s personal space during this show as the venue was essentially a house serving as a DIY space. Regardless, it was completely filled and it was a fun show. We had vegan burgers brought to us for dinner, which I was just talking to Mike about the other day.

Also taken in Hamburg, Germany at Astra Stube. Aviator was asked to perform two encores this evening and did just that.

Taken in Münster, Germany at the third-to-last show of tour. We were able to spend the entire morning and early afternoon in Amsterdam. I visited the Anne Frank House with both of the Mikes, which was an incredibly heavy experience. With that said, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen such a level of respect in a tourist-heavy space. I purchased a copy of her Diary and re-read it for the remainder of the tour.
