after butchering his first power performance evaluations, sungjin isnât really surprised anymore that heâs assigned to take extra classes.
other than being new and his poor evaluation score, he did need to work on a lot to keep up with the other students. so when the professor told him to stay and talk after dismissing the whole class, he already knew whatâs up â he is to take special mentoring classes with another senior.
this is how the redhead finds himself in one of the training rooms after class hours. he doesnât really know what to expect, his professor didnât really say much, only said heâd have to train with one of the mavericks. who that is? sungjin doesnât even have a clue.
he is sitting on the ground when he hears her, he immediately gets up and bows, âme? y-yes! i amâŠ! sungjin!â could his answer be any more embarrassing? probably.
he examined the other and the boy thought it was strange because he really thought he was here to fight and get himself hurt â again. his mentor wasnât wearing the usual sparring attire heâs seen, and is currently wearing. maybe she was that good and didnât need to. the boy feeling a bit anxious now, puts himself on an awkward defensive stance that one of the other seniors have taught him.
however, as his senior, he soon learns is named jungha, starts to introduce herself and explain what they will be doing, his hands in stance start to lower; the younger now is utterly confused.
âm-my psychic shield?â sungjin bites his lower lip, thinking if he might have got his room mixed up.
âi donât⊠know⊠i think i-i got this all mixed up, sorry, iâm not sure if youâve got the right one, i donât think i have a psy-psychic shield? i donât even know what that-that isâŠâ
well, she definitely wasnât expecting this to happen. itâs not unusual for people to not realise they have other subpowersâshe didnât realise she had pain suppression until she entered the academyâbut this is her first time dealing with one. she doesnât let it show that this catches her by surprise, though she does inwardly curse the trainer for not telling her about this.
     she isnât exactly breaking-the-news material.
though, it could be worse, she supposes.
her expression changes into one of reassurance since the boy looks like heâs about to bolt out of the room any second. âit lives up to its name. protects your head and all from mental attacks.â great explanation, jungha. âguess itâs just constantly activated for you so you havenât exactly noticed it yet.â
she offers him another small smile, which also acts as a warning for what sheâll propose next. âi can show you that itâs there if youâd like.â if he agrees, sheâll send him a minor wave of mental pain that his shield should be able to block. if he doesnât, well, sheâll do it anyways just so he gets the memo.
