The World Leader in Eco Fitness. Offering DIY Electric Bicycle Generators, Gym Quality Grid Tied Fitness Equipment, and Help Starting Your Own Green Gym
This kit combines the DIY Kit with the 250 Watt Grid-Tied Kit Attach almost any bike - For kids and most adults Stable and durable Plugs into any wall outlet Provides resistance as RPM's go up Shuts off for safety when power is out The grid-tie inverter can transfer wind energy from bicycle generators directly into the home grid using no extra equipment. It can be connected to any outlet (conventional network) in the home. The grid-tie inverter controls the phase and the frequency and voltage of the power generated by the bicycle generator. It produces a pure sine-wave and matches that of the grid. This model grid-tie has built-in bridge rectifier and dump load controller. It can maintain the rotating speed of the wind turbine and keep the voltage from the bicycle generator always at the range of the rated range of the grid tie inverter. There are 5 terminals on the left side of the inverter, 3 red terminals will be connected to the three phase output from the bicycle generator, and 2 black terminals will be connected to dump load resistors. There are 4 LED indicators, 3 green indicators and 1 red indicator, 3 green LED indicators will start to cycle from left to right when the grid and AC input supply is detected. This indicates the inverter is operating under normal condition. The rate of the cycling is according to how much power is being output from the bicycle generator. The more big output power is, the more fast the rate is. If there is no AC grid detected, the red LED will be on, the inverter will not put out power, this is called “Island Protection.”
It’s a symptom of a bigger, nationwide problem: the lack of affordable housing near jobs
This epidemic is getting out of control. There are so many solutions to this problem but people with the money, power, and resources (like Disney) choose not to do anything (and actively block measures to help their own workers) while using them because they know people need to work and need to make money to live... so they end up driving an hour and half one way to work only to sleep in their cars. That is no way to live! But these people have no other option (or so it seems).
I don’t know what I’m going to do but I want to do something. Stories like this are becoming all too prevalent in our society.
Architects Ross Chapin and JR Fulton tell the story of transforming an existing 16-unit apartment complex into an intentional community that is multi-generational, mixed income, ecologically responsive and socially healthy.
White County, Georgia
Today I talked to the building inspector for White County, Georgia to see what he thought about tiny houses. He didn’t try to rush me off the phone, nor was he ecstatic that I want to build one in HIS county. Apparently he’s had some other people interested in this idea of a “tiny home” so he knew what I was getting at with all of my questions.
Basically what I learned was that I can build a tiny home but it’s going to have to adhere to the 2012 IRC Building Codes, which is pretty standard across the board. That set of building codes do not include the appendix for tiny homes that the city of Atlanta just adopted in January 2018.
One upside is that he said he “wouldn’t fight me” on anything over 200 square feet--I plan to build within the 400-500 square foot range so that’s fine. However, he did say he would “run me out of the county” for trying to build a tiny house on a chassis AKA a trailer, which would constitute being a “recreational vehicle” so I would have to build on a permanent foundation.
Other information:
1) If I want to use a compost toilet then I will have to get approval from the Department of Health before I can get a permit to build
2) Only one property per acre (pretty standard)
3) I can build my tiny home in areas with R-1 residential zoning, but if the land has been zoned anything else I can file for a re-zoning permit (not sure how easy it would be to get approved to re-zone land for a tiny home though)
4) If I’m building a loft space instead of a bedroom, then I will have to build a standard size house window into the egress of the loft in case I need to bail due to fire or other emergency
All in all, it is something of progress because I was expecting more push-back than I received.
Federal agencies are reviewing financing and regulations in hopes of giving manufactured homes a boost
2018 Georgia Tiny House Festival
This weekend I attended the third annual Georgia Tiny House Festival, which was incredibly eye-opening. I met a bunch of people in the industry and also made connections with other like-minded individuals who have built their own tiny dwellings and have been living in them full-time for months/years. I will be posting more about this throughout the week as I have accumulated 400+ photos from the two day event. I also recorded two of the keynote addresses and one of the workshops, and I will be uploading the audio for those as well.
I want this space to be a resource for other people who are interested in the same things that I am, and to foster a community of inclusivity for people with wild and alternative ideas that are looking to change the world.
Pet Project
This space is going to house my pet project which is going to be an intersection of:
1) affordable/alternative housing such as tiny homes, ADUs, and tiny house communities
2) sustainability and resources
3) alternative forms of energy as a solution to climate change
4) tackling the local governments’ building codes, zoning laws, and regulation starting with my hometown of Cleveland, Georgia
