His thoughts were interrupted by Theo.
"Have you been drinking?" the boy asked simply.
Liam looked up at him again, already sensing the judgment.
"Oh, leave me alone," he then snorted, rolling his eyes.
"You smell of alcohol," Theo stated again, like a petulant child.
"Just go away," Liam then said as he turned to go back into the house, rubbing a hand over his stomach.
Theo, against all expectations, took the opportunity to enter the apartment immediately behind him.
Liam just wanted to be left alone to suffer in peace.
"Doesn't it disgust you to be here anymore?" he then spat in his face, watching him close the door.
"Yes," Theo replied bluntly.
Liam was taken aback for a moment by that answer.
Theo was so arrogant, but for the first time Liam also sensed something different in him, something none of his clients had ever had, stubborn sincerity, as if the truth were a challenge to him.
His thoughts were interrupted by another cramp that nearly made his knees buckle.
Liam didn't have time to speak anymore.
He picked up the bottle and immediately began wrestling with the cap, his eyes almost watering with frustration as his bitten nails prevented him from tearing the safety seal.
"You can't take them now," Theo interrupted.
"You've been drinking," the boy replied frankly "you can't take ibuprofen with alcohol."
If Liam hadn't been so nauseous and having cramps, he would have genuinely burst out laughing.
But instead, he simply ignored him as the cap finally popped open.
"You'll pierce your stomach," Theo said again, shaking his head disapprovingly, as if he were just a stupid child.
For a moment, Liam actually considered showing him the blood-covered towel just to shut him up.
"Why are you still here?" he asked instead, in an exhausted voice, "why don't you just leave?"
"Because if you kill yourself, I'll have wasted $3,000."
Liam really didn't need that right now.
"You have to wait at least a couple of hours to take it," Theo repeated again, just to watch him take two pills.
"Good," he then simply said, sitting down on the couch, "it'll help me sleep too."
"Assuming you wake up tomorrow," Theo commented judgmentally at that point.
Liam was tired of Theo judging him.
"It wouldn't be the worst thing," he spat out, his eyes fixed on the other boy's every move. "Now now shut up if you really have to stay here."

"What are you doing?" Theo asked only, letting his head fall to the side just to see Liam holding his phone.
"I'm calling your doctor," Liam replied matter-of-factly, holding the phone to his ear.
"What?" Theo blinked, more feverish than befoe "Why?"
"Because you've already taken two Tylenol, the fever keeps getting worse, and your chest hurts?" Liam replied, his irritation not hiding his real, concrete concern.
"I'm fine," Theo then tried to reassure him.
"You're not," Liam shook his head, placing a hand on his cheek and caressing it as the phone rang.
"Hello?" a slightly metallic voice finally asked on the other end.
"Hello, yes, I... it's Liam, I'm calling because Theo isn't feeling well and I don't know what to do," Liam blurted out.
He didn't want to panic or upset Theo, but the situation was rapidly worsening.
"Can I speak to Theo?" the doctor asked immediately.
In response, Liam immediately placed the phone against Theo's ear.
"Doctor," Theo managed to say in a hoarse voice before a coughing fit shook him.
"Theo, how are you feeling?"
"I'm fine," Theo replied immediately, despite struggling to catch his breath.
"Liam didn't seem very convinced," the doctor replied patiently, as if he were used to Theo's manner "why don't you tell me what's going on?"
"It's just flu," Theo replied, however "I have a bit of a cough and a bit of..."
"He's had a fever above 39 for hours," Liam interrupted, snatching the phone from him "he's sweating, his breathing is difficult, and I know his chest hurts even if he doesn't want to admit it."
Theo didn't even have the strength to glare at him.
"Okay, the best thing now is to go to the hospital right away."
Hospital. Liam felt his blood run cold.
"No," Theo replied, shaking his head.
"Why?" Liam ignored him, feeling a lump in his throat.
"It could be endocarditis."
"No," Theo repeated again, shaking his head.
"Okay," Liam ignored him again, trying to remain calm "okay, I'll take him there now."
"The important thing now is to stay calm," the doctor replied, his voice firm "from your description, it's the beginning of an infection, and it's not dangerous if treated immediately."
Liam tried to hold on to those words with all his strength.
"Okay," he replied, his voice shaking a little "Okay, thank you very much."
Liam ended the call before even hearing the doctor's response.
