Im obsessed with the idea of there being a "first timeline" where Viktor and Jayce meet eachother organically with no arcane intervention, maybe even a world with no arcane link at all.
Jayce survives the blizzard on his own by sheltering beneath his mothers corpse just long enough for it to die down, and dragging himself to rescue. He survives but not without losing the use of most of his limbs, nerve damage and frostbite.
When Viktor meets him in Piltover, they're still young, maybe 17 and 18, and find familiarity in their brilliant minds and encumbered bodies.
Together they dream, if only they were magic, if only it were real, they could have lived happier, healthier lives together.
Instead they work together to invent real ways to help the people of their cities, purify the pilt, clear the grey. They fall in love along the way.
Jayce goes first. Too young and unfulfilled.
The heartbreak is so great that it's maddening, and suddenly Viktor is alone throwing himself into invention within the echo chamber of his own mind and need to have him back.
If magic isnt real, he will make magic real, and he will have that happy life with Jayce like he wanted.
Despite all odds, and defying the laws of reality itself, Viktor rips the foundation of the universe apart and creates an unending loop of tragedy. New timelines, new worlds, each and every time a Viktor meets a Jayce, and each time they're taken from eachother.
That Viktor becomes omnipresent, perhaps he's the anomaly itself, and watches over every single timeline, replaying first meetings, first kisses, and last breaths eternally.
