Happy International Womenâs Day!Â
Title: the witch doesnt burn in this one
Author: Amanda Lovelace
Genre: Poetry, feminism
Publication: March 6, 2018
My rating: ââââď¸â/5
Official synopsis:
The witch: supernaturally powerful, inscrutably independent, and nowâindestructible. These moving, relatable poems encourage resilience and embolden women to take control of their own stories. Enemies try to judge, oppress, and marginalize her, but the witch doesnât burn in this one.
Amanda Lovelace, aka queen of poetry, did it again! She slays dragons and wolves with her words, and smashes burns the patriarchy with her power. Because women are some kind of magic, but we arenât delicate flowers made of sugar, spice, and everything nice. We are strong, we are fierce, and we are tired of your bullshit. We are angry (of course we are!) and we have the right to be. And the most important thing is that we are together in this everyday fight.
In her second poetry collection âthe witch doesnât burn in this oneâ, Amanda Lovelace writes unapologetically against the manmade structure that oppresses women, and shows no mercy to misogyny. She also encourages women to support other women, and to always put themselves first and be their own priority.
This is an inspiring and empowering book that will make you feel that your rage is fair and that youâre not alone, because we women are the fire. âFire is catching and if we burn, you burn with usâ đĽ

Title: DROPKICKromance
Author: Cyrus ParkerÂ
Genre: Poetry
Publication: March 6, 2018
My rating: ââââď¸â/5
Official synopsis:
A collection of autobiographical poetry about healing and learning to love again from professional-wrestler-turned-poet, Cyrus Parker. The first half of DROPKICKromance focuses on a toxic, long-distance relationship the author was involved in for several years, while the second half focuses on his current relationship with poet Amanda Lovelace. Ultimately, the collection tells about a profound journey of healing.
DROPKICKromance was one of my most anticipated books of 2018 and it really met my expectations!
This poetry collection tells the story of a boy who endured a toxic relationship for way too long. Itâs hard to read because itâs a story of heartbreak and it resonates. However, it also talks about healing, about learning to love and value yourself. Throughout his poems, Cyrus Parker presents a journey from a harmful relationship to a healthy one, from dishonesty and pain to trust and respect, from lies and illusions to true, sincere love.
The second part of the book is my favourite, of course, and I think that every fan of âthe princess saves herself in this oneâ will really appreciate reading it, because it tells the other side of the story that Lovelace writes in her book, and itâs really beautiful.
