Week 9 - Summary of Lip Sync

For the remainder of this week, I worked on my experimentation reel and final corrections on my animation. Even though I am pleased with what I have learnt and gained through this project, I feel that with more time and practice I could've delivered an animation that best delivered his personality and mannerisms much more real, presenting him in the best way possible. If I could return to this project I would work on making sure my lip sync was also much more clear and precise, maybe even more exaggerated in the facial features. This is something I will work on in my spare time, for upcoming projects.

Updated Cleo Roar animatic-

After speaking with my lecturer about my progress so far, he advised me that some of my research and understanding in some of my references may of reflected the same observations in my own work, such as this animatic would reminded him a lot of The Lion King. After discussing this with him, we both agreed that making changes in my character design to make Cleo more unique would be beneficial for myself.

Character Reel of Cleo-

Here are my finished animatics, I feel I've really understood the brief asking us to create a series of independently defined experiments, synthesising the results into a character design/model, showcasing Cleo’s full potential in an animated sequence, consisting of three separate shots. Each shot is required to be of at least 2 seconds in duration.

Cleo’s World-

For Cleo’s world I really enjoyed the process of designing and painting digitally different environments I could imagine Cleo would be in. Set in Africa I wanted to capture as much greenery and foliage as possible.

Cleo Character Arc-

For the character arc to show Cleo’s journey through the episodes, I used Todorov’s Theory of regaining a new equilibrium through each disruption which I hope to recreate in each episode. 

Tzvetan Todorov's narrative theory suggests that all narratives follow a three part structure where they begin with equilibrium, where everything is balanced, progress as something comes along to disrupt that equilibrium, and finally reach a resolution, when equilibrium is restored. I hope to re-create this in each episode for Cleo.

I haven't changed anything from my model sheet as I feel, I've presented everything accordingly and clear for my audience to take in.

Cleo Movement Rules-

As for Movement Rules, I struggled on how to present this slide. As I felt that it would be best explained through the animatics of Cleo, presenting weight/squash and stretch. I still created more poses to emphasis Cleo’s personality through her body language.

Here is an updated Cleo emotions and poses page extracted from the character bible. I wanted to really create an atmosphere and composition where you could really understand Cleo’s posing along with her personality as well, creating posing showing, laughter, embarrassment,happiness, fear, tiredness ext.
