“Among other things, you'll find that you're not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior. You're by no means alone on that score, you'll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You'll learn from them — if you want to. Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It's a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn't education. It's history. It's poetry.”

Week 8 - Assessment briefing
Within this week’s seminar we discussed and learnt about how to structure our presentations. We discussed using 5 sections to organise our work -
- Problem definition.
Problem mapping and re-defined design challenges.
- Research and insights.
What new research methods did you experiment with? What are your key insights. Tell me something interesting/surprising you didn't know at the start of the project.
- Ideation.
Sketches showing a range of ideas.
- Sketches and prototyping.
Materialise your best ideas in order to communicate and test them with your audience.
- Testing and evaluation.
Show your ideas to your target audiences gather feedback. Reflect on outcomes and processes.
We then looked at the D.I.E.P process.
Reflective writing requires you to think deeply and write about an experience, event and or course content.
This involves writing about -
- What happened (positive or negative) and what you personally learned from the experience.
- What it means, and how it changes the way you think or understand something.
- What you can change or how you can apply the new learning in the future.
Reflective writing records the development of your insights and ideas. It focuses on a specific new understanding and its application to future practice.
The following diagram illustrates the reflective process of DIEP -
We then looked at Edward de Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats method.
There are six metaphorical hats and each defines a certain types of thinking. You can put on or take off one of these hats to indicate the type of thinking you are using. This putting on and taking off is essential, because it allows you to switch from one type of thinking to another.
The principle behind the ‘Six Thinking Hats’ is parallel thinking which ensures that all the people in a meeting are focused on and thinking about the same subject at the same time.
