the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be a part of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
not now kitten. daddy only planned the first half of his wip, and now he has to figure out what the fuck to do for the other half.
being a writer is
50% daydreaming about plots and writing
50% procrastinating/suffering during the actual writing process
not now kitten, mommy needs to get up off her ass and overcome her fear of writing poorly because it's better than not writing at all.
ao3 authors are something else…
not now kitten. daddy's realizing that the scene he invested 1000 words into could be significantly improved but only if he started over from scratch
my daily affirmation as an author
“Cook at home to save money” sounds all well and good until you get a little too into it and suddenly you’re bookmarking recipes that call for The Preserved Grace of God and that shit is $13 at the specialty store
The worst part about writing is that sometimes you actually have to write.
The best part about writing is also that sometimes you have to write.
I will not elaborate further.
I love characters who would die for each other but will not, under any circumstances, communicate a single honest feeling.
writing challenge!
open up your document and put words in it
So not beta related, but there is no way that an omegas body would be able to continue function under a massive amount of stress.
Let's take the average female human body. It's kind of a delicate ecosystem. If they are too stressed it can cause hormones to go wako and cause issues. Nevermind if their attempting to get pregnant. Female animals will be unable to get pregnant if the conditions aren't right, or she'll just absorb the fetuses.
An Omega is all this times 15. Too stress about an exam? BOOM. Skipped over heat that month. Alphas are deciding to be shitty? BOOM. body absorbs the fetus.
Or even better. When a society of alphas are causing omegas to stress it triggers a mass biological change and they stop having alpha kids. You'll know it's reaaaaaaaallly bad if the betas stop having alphas too.
These are a bunch of half baked thoughts after seeing a bunch of fics where alphas are treating omegas badly with no consequences. There is no way that there would be 0 consequences. Mother nature herself would show up to teach them a lesson. Might fix up later.
Discourse in the omegaverse is probably so annoying. Omegas being like "I wish we had better representation for what an omega is, were more than just heats/sex and puppymills"
Then a beta responds "at least you get representation 🙄🙄"
Which prompts an alpha to respond with some bullshit like "maybe you guys would have more representation if you were as high value as an alpha"
This doesn't even get into more indepth stuff like;
Black omegas being seen as lesser omegas compared to white ones
Light skinned Asian omegas being seen as cuter or more breedable/fertile than other omegas
Fights about what is the "correct" way to den or nest, especially across the diaspora
Betas not getting included in literally anything
Betas being teased for indulging in traditionally alphan or omegan activities or traits
Black alphas being seen as naturally more aggressive
Scents specific or common to a race/ethnicity/nationality being seen as weird, dirty, undesirable, ect
Male omegas being called "unnatural"
Male omegas being commodified, the same way you'd procure a show dog or an expensive piece of furniture
Female omegas being told they're more dull or boring compared to male omegas
Betas being called "scentless" and other synonymous terms
Betas being excluded from discussions because they're "just betas" and it's "not their job" to make big decisions
Female alphas being told they're not real alphas
I could go on, honestly. You could write a 20pg dissertation on this and still not scratch the surface on most discordant topics.
it is always narratively correct to make your characters sleep together before they sort through the hundreds of lies and misdirections between them. make things worse make things worse make things worse #i love betrayal #i love lying #i love people feeling bad about themselves
I actually don't think you should only read stories you relate to or only write about identity groups you're part of and I think acting like this is the "correct" way to go about fiction diminishes our compassion and understanding and curiosity and I do think this needs to become a less controversial opinion. 🧘♀️
"what if famous racehorses were attractive anime girls?" boring, milquetoast
"what if secretariat was a gambling addict who killed himself?" intriguing, subversive
