Things I’m forgetting about the newborn stage and things I miss
The triple feeds: nursing, bottle, pumping
The exhaustion from waking up every 2-3 hours
Napping in bed together during the day
Doing her tongue stretches and rubbing coconut oil on her revision wound
Pumping while trying told hold her
Being able to hold her in one arm and do anything else with the other
Setting the baby down and her staying in the same spot
The excitement of getting a smile even when it was gas
Her crossed eyes staring off in the distance
The way you could tell when she saw something that she couldn’t before
Changing diapers and getting dressed was so much easier when she couldn’t roll over and wrestle with me
Having conversations with her and her just staring blankly but obviously captivated
The way she used to suck on her hands
Trying to nurse with a boppy pillow
The way everything smelled like milk
Spit up on every shirt I changed into instantly
The different ways we tried to coax a burp out of her
Doing baby yoga to help stretch her out after birth
The first 24 hours keeping track of her temperature every couple hours and diapers
Thawing out frozen donor breastmilk in our fridge
Heating up her bottles in a pot on the stove because we hadn’t bought a bottle warmer
Setting alarms all throughout the night so I could wake up to feed her/so I could pump every 2-3 hours
Tucking her wubbanub into her swaddle to try to keep a pacifier in her mouth for more than 30 seconds
Her being startled by the sound of my waterbottle
