Pensées.
The markings on this carpet I am looking at appear to be random. Some of them look a little like letters, numbers and/or mathematical symbols which I could, and do ascribe meaning to. I'm sure if I looked at the entire thing, if I studied it, I could establish some sort of pattern, or some level of predictability in what appears to lack order. "This symbol bares resemblance to 'S', another looks like the symbol used to denote an infinite quantity of something". What that something is is both relevant and not. That's an absurd point to throw in, but I guess it makes sense to me. Something manufactured this carpet, that something was built, and designed initially by a person. I'm not sure how the print was decided, maybe an algorithm was made specifically for this purpose. This isn't what I'm concerned with though. It's the existence. Odd right? After all, what I am looking at is just a carpet. People walk on this carpet everyday. People spill things on it and move on, "it doesn't matter". Somebody cleans it. I wonder how many people have thought about this exact thing, and, whether they decided the thought was silly or if they came to a more profound conclusion than myself. My prediction is that a lot of people don't even notice it. Even if I knew, would I be any closer to understanding what it is I'm trying articulate here. Probably not. I suppose it doesn't matter though,
But, after writing this, I feel content. I feel comfortable that my knowledge is limited and that I cannot comprehend the limits of my own knowledge. The ability to ascribe meaning is nice though, mainly because it is both relevant and not. Because the meaning is relevant and not.
"Incoherent-yes. Without meaning-I'm afraid not"

I am easy to inspire, there is little I require.
I didn't know this photo existed until I saw it on a good friend's blog. I like it, a lot.
John Atkinson Grimshaw (1836-1893) was a Victorian-era painter, notable for his moonlit scenes and landscapes.
