When I compiled this playlist, it occurred to me how lucky I am to have been invited to DJ at my favourite parties and asked to contribute to some fantastic radio shows. Thanks everyone for having me!

Hipsters Don’t Dance’s Strictly Riddims series is so much fun and a lot of my favourite DJs have contributed, so it was unreal to be asked to make my own episode! I went fully synesthestic; choosing the most colourful sounds that tasted sweetest to my ears.

Apart from the founding fathers Darka, CanYouFelix and Faro, I would like to propose that I have attended more Overproofs (Overproves?) than anyone else. Here’s my take on the top five wheel-ups through the young history of the dance.

Felix wheeled this during my first set at Overproof. Felix initiates the majority of my reloads and I I like to think this because he’s the only one who knows how to use my controller and not because people are indifferent to what I play.

Only Man She Want by Popcaan

When the mixer melted one time at Deaf Institute and the sound went off for a few minutes this was the first song to come back on, causing Bigfoot to have a religious experience.

Bacchanalist by Kerwin Du Bois

When my sister Isis was around we would sing “Isis Bacchanalist” instead of “Iza Bacchanalist”.

Move Your Body (Vybz Kartel Remix) by Nina Sky

First time I heard this remix was at Overproof. Kartel at his slackest….well not really - not even close actually, but still pretty bad.

Nah Sell Out by Khago

Overproof is first and foremost about friends. I made some friends for life there, so naturally had to go with this

Of course, biggest shouts to Murkage and the original Overproof team for making it something to fall in love with.

Trinidad Carnival is around the corner (Feb 16th 17th) and these are my top 5 Soca songs leading up to it. If, like me, you can’t attend you can always have yourself a mini carnival (which is what we’ll be doing on the 7th)

How We Roll - Saffire

Melancholy-tinged soca songs are often my favourite and I would say this is the best of the year.

We Pumpin’ - Shurwayne Winchester

This one embodies a kind of pre-bacchanal grandiosity I like very much. The lyrics can also take on rather a different meaning depending on how you define ‘pumping’.

Dirty Dirty - Skinny Banton

This year’s dutty mas jab jab anthem with a great singalong chorus.

Ola - Olatunji

Kan Kan is easily the riddim of the season and Olatunji kills it using his own name as the hook (and why not?)

Pankatang - Biggie Irie

Best lyrics - Biggie tells us he would sacrifice his house and land for soca, which is no small statement as his place looks pretty swish in this video.

Swing Ting is my absolute favourite place to dance. The Soup Kitchen sound system is incredible; the DJs play my favourite new music and I'm always introduced to new sounds there. It's weird to be playing somewhere where I'm used to being so thoroughly entertained, so got a lot to live up to!

Happy new year! This was my number 1 song of last year. Still love it. Will be an eternal struggle between this and a certain other of his tunes as to which is my favourite Popcaan song of all.
