I think something so interesting about the loumand dynamic is that I truly believe there was love there. Perhaps not in the all consuming (frankly unhealthy, kind of abusive way of Loustat) but the love and tenderness were there. I feel like dismissing the relationship as entirely empty of tenderness/care really cheapens it, when it’s so much more tragic if there was love but it wasn’t the right kind or wasn’t enough, or wasn’t able to grow its roots past what had sprouted before the trial. This is one of the reasons your fics are so good, you really understand the tenderness even within loumand’s failmarriage.

Oh thank you so much anon! I’m so glad you enjoy my fics 🥹 and yes I totally agree with you. Loumand may not be overwhelming with feelings or similiar to that turbulent loustat passion that enslaved them both, but I think it’s slower & softer and that in itself doesn’t mean it’s less valid. Assad said something similiar in an interview once, that while Loustat’s love is wild and intense Loumand’s is soft and tender. It ultimately isn’t enough and will never equal to the love Louis feels for Lestat, but that’s the tragedy of it! Loumand would have never lasted, but they tried so hard to make it work, they wanted it to work. There was affection, there was tenderness🥹 that’s love, too.
