Join us for a Fall Equinox feast - celebrating the mill, the loom and modern movements in craft and food. Blanhasset Island, nestled in the French Broad River (one of the oldest rivers in the world), will provide the setting for Jensen & Jensen to reinterpret their Scandinavian heritage in a decidedly Appalachian landscape. The evening will consist of a Sketchbook Crafts open studio sale, a Smoke Signals Smorgasboard style dinner, brief artist talks and textile based theater by West of Roan. The night promises to warm both the body and spirit as we explore the connections between wool and rye, weaver and baker and the natural world around us.
The event will begin inside the Marshall High Studios with a studio sale and glögg in the workshop of Amber Jensen. Participants will be able to view a working loom and purchase one of a kind backpacks, textiles and other unique goods handcrafted by Jensen.  Recently featured in Oprah magazine, Jensenâs work is a testament to classic design with careful attention to detail, color and texture. Alongside of items in the studio, Jensen will be creating an exclusive line of napkins and other table top wovens to commemorate this special evening, also available for purchase.
Moving from the studios to the outdoor pavilion located in the adjacent park, diners are invited to feast alongside the artists in a recreation of the traditional Scandanvian buffet known as Smorgasboard. Catered by Smoke Signals wood-fire bakery, this family style meal will showcase the versatility of Nordic grains. The distinct flavors of rye and barley in cold salads, pumpernickel and crisp breads will be paired with various seasonal vegetables, pickles, mustards and cured meats. Jensenâs sweet potato pie, featured in Food and Wine magazine, along with Danish butter cookies will be served with coffee for desert.
The evening will close with brief artist talks from both Jensen and Jensen and an outdoor theater performance from West of Roan highlighting textiles and shadow. The celebration of the decent into Fall promises to delight both your eyes and mouths.
