You Sleep At Night.
Sprout quietly washes off some plates in the kitchen. Dinner had gone smoothly. He smiles to himself, tail wagging. Today had been a good day.
I mean. Not like he remembers what happened below. Astro sure might though.
Solo runs weren't all that common for Astro, he wasn't really fit to do this by himself considering how slowly he moved around. He was better at supporting others than himself.
But whatever - doing a solo run like this gave him a chance to talk to Dandy without as many other toons around and he didn't really mind that.
What he did mind however was the weird sight of ichor on the ground, almost like a trail.. that wasn't from a twisted. At least not any of the ones he knew.
The only other toon he knew that had been on a run was... Oh shit.
He walks out onto the floor, looking around and carefully calls out.
"Sprout..?"

There’s a low wheezy sound. Like he wasn’t getting enough air in his lungs.
“As..tro?” Half his face is covered in ichor now. Gaze blurry as he tries to just. Get his bearings. He was so tired, aching all over.
“H..hi.” He looks almost embarrassed, mouth twitching. Head tilted to the side. He looks. Certainly like he’s going through it. Claw already starting to form.
“D..do you need something? A… heal? A.. treat?”
Astro pretty much sprints over when he heard and sees Sprout, blanket slipping off of him as he reaches out with all four hands to check on the other. Panic and worry all over his face.
"Sprout- what- no don't worry about me right now what- are you- fuck- what happened??"
He tried to see if he could find an injury, something - a reason why his friend was like this.
“ ‘s.. ok,, you.. won’t remember this.. anyway,,”
He looks so, so tired. That last heart of his is shakey. Like it’s about to break. His gaze is lidded, sad.
“Happens a lot… I should.. be used to it by now… doesn’t make it hurt… any less.”
He wasn’t the first. He won’t be the last.
He stares for a bit, no.. no he couldn't let this happen, he reaches out and carefully pulls Sprout up, struggling a little to support him.
"I'm not letting this happen."
Two arms wrap around sprout to keep him up, taking the strawberries good arm and putting that over his shoulders.
"Come on - we need to get back."
Sprout stares at the other, whining softly.
“Nn,, it’s… Astro no,,, just leave me.. it’s ok..”
He didn’t even have long left. It was ok. He really didn’t mind.
“I’m not important.”
"Shut up- you are important!"
He was having none of that, he wasn't going to just sit around and watch this happen. Regardless of whether or not he could do anything- he wasn't going to do nothing.
"You are important. You're so important to me."
He looks at the other for a long moment. Silent as more ichor covers his face. His still visible eye turning pinkish. Sprout gently tries to pull away. Shaking his head as he coughs.
“You’ll forget this happened.. just leave md be…”
"No.. I'm not leaving you alone."
He has to stop - he can't actually carry Sprout for long so he has to ease him back onto the ground.. sitting in front of the other.
He doesn't really care if this is a bad idea, to stay near someone who is in the middle of twisting.. to such a dangerous kind of twisted.
"Whether i forget or not.. I'm not leaving you."
Sprout huffs, hands flexing as ichor dribbles out his mouth, covering it entirely. He claws slightly at his throat, struggling to breathe. It hurt. It hurt so bad. He whines. The sound not pleasant.
“As…tro…. Hu…rts…”
He’s certainly now suddenly becoming desperate to not be alone. Gently clinging to the other.
“H..he..lp… As…tro…”
Astro's eye widens a little - grabbing onto Sprout again to just.. hold him. holding onto sprouts good hand as he cringed a little from the sight and sounds.
"I'm here.. I'm.. I'm here.."
What can he even.. do? Any heals he had wouldn't do anything, not with sprout this far gone... He had a different idea.
"Just.. Try and relax.. okay? I promise I wont go anywhere.."
He could at least put Sprout to sleep, maybe it would be easier on him.
He looks so, so tired. Leaning a bit into the other, ichor dripping from his visible eye. Trying to nuzzle the other. Hurt to talk. Hurt in general. He tries to listen to the other’s advice.
“As…tro…”
Astro put a hand onto Sprouts cheek, rubbing his thumb across what was not covered in Ichor yet.
"Just relax... I'm right here.. Don't try and talk.."
He held up one of his other hands - two little stars appearing and floating up to sprouts head and swirling around.
"just relax.. rest.."
He doesn’t say anything else. Just letting himself relax. Tail lightly swishing as he nuzzles into Astro’s hold. Eye falling closed. So… tired. Tears streaming lightly from his eye. He slumps tiredly. Just.. rest,,
He gently wipes the tears away, sighing softly as the other starts to relax.
"There you go.. you're safe.. I'm here." He keeps talking softly, letting his magic work to hopefully help Sprout relax and rest.
He chitters, before slowly falling asleep. Purring a little bit.
“L…ov..e… y..ou…”
Sprout is now really the time to- well actually he won’t have another chance. So I suppose fitting last words.
A small smile crosses Astro's face at that, a little sad that the other would never hear the reply.
"I love you too.."
He stayed with Sprout for a while, he didn't want to move, to leave Sprout. It felt almost wrong too..
He'd rather take whatever came when the now twisted toon woke up than leave his love friend.
The transformation doesn’t. Look pleasant at all. Sudden growth spurt, ichor pooling out and covering him entirely. His breathing is all sorts of wack. Clothes not even really visible. Just. Ichor.
He does. Wake up, bleary eyed and on edge. Everything hurt. Felt like vines were IN his body, applying pressure everywhere. He locks back onto Astro and just. Stares. Before screaming
Astro was still sitting nearby, having had to let go of Sprout during the changes - it was just getting too awkward to hold him when he got... even taller.
Though Whatever Astro was doing was quickly abandoned as he heard the scream - uh oh.
He might be fucked.
Astro gets to his feet, very much ready to run if need be - Whether Sprout was lucid enough to know who he was still or not was unclear.
Astro you might want to book it. He looks. Mad. Snarling as his eye narrows. Come here, I just wanna eat you.

"I'm here.. I'm.. I'm here.."
What can he even.. do? Any heals he had wouldn't do anything, not with sprout this far gone... He had a different idea.

He could at least put Sprout to sleep, maybe it would be easier on him.

“H..hi.” He looks almost embarrassed, mouth twitching. Head tilted to the side. He looks. Certainly like he’s going through it. Claw already starting to form.
“D..do you need something? A… heal? A.. treat?”
Astro pretty much sprints over when he heard and sees Sprout, blanket slipping off of him as he reaches out with all four hands to check on the other. Panic and worry all over his face.
"Sprout- what- no don't worry about me right now what- are you- fuck- what happened??"
He tried to see if he could find an injury, something - a reason why his friend was like this.
“ ‘s.. ok,, you.. won’t remember this.. anyway,,”
He looks so, so tired. That last heart of his is shakey. Like it’s about to break. His gaze is lidded, sad.
“Happens a lot… I should.. be used to it by now… doesn’t make it hurt… any less.”

He stares for a bit, no.. no he couldn't let this happen, he reaches out and carefully pulls Sprout up, struggling a little to support him.
"I'm not letting this happen."
Two arms wrap around sprout to keep him up, taking the strawberries good arm and putting that over his shoulders.
"Come on - we need to get back."
Sprout stares at the other, whining softly.
“Nn,, it’s… Astro no,,, just leave me.. it’s ok..”
He didn’t even have long left. It was ok. He really didn’t mind.
“I’m not important.”
"Shut up- you are important!"
He was having none of that, he wasn't going to just sit around and watch this happen. Regardless of whether or not he could do anything- he wasn't going to do nothing.
"You are important. You're so important to me."
He looks at the other for a long moment. Silent as more ichor covers his face. His still visible eye turning pinkish. Sprout gently tries to pull away. Shaking his head as he coughs.
“You’ll forget this happened.. just leave md be…”
"No.. I'm not leaving you alone."
He has to stop - he can't actually carry Sprout for long so he has to ease him back onto the ground.. sitting in front of the other.
He doesn't really care if this is a bad idea, to stay near someone who is in the middle of twisting.. to such a dangerous kind of twisted.
"Whether i forget or not.. I'm not leaving you."
Sprout huffs, hands flexing as ichor dribbles out his mouth, covering it entirely. He claws slightly at his throat, struggling to breathe. It hurt. It hurt so bad. He whines. The sound not pleasant.

Sprout exhales deeply, tail swishing behind him. Hands in his pockets. He had gone on a solo run per Dandy’s request for errands. Why a solo for him he wasn’t particularly sure of. It was floor 26 and honestly he wasn’t particularly so tired. Already down a heart and on the verge of death. Eyes bleary as he steps onto the diner map.
… had he fucked up again? Dandy always did this- he now realizes- when Sprout truly agitated the flower. His mouth curves downwards into a frown, tail dragging. He’s.. so tired. Wiping some ichor from his head.
Wait.
Ichor.
Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. That wasn’t GOOD. He was actually DYING now if the amount coming out was anything to go by. When did that actually start happening? Shit.
“Ugh… my head is spinning…”
If he had to guess he could make the assumption he’s just barely twisted. Maybe 7 to 10%?

Sprout sighs softly under his breath, hands shaky as he goes to knock on Astro’s door. The other hadn’t come down for lunch so he assumed either he forgot or slept through it. Plate in the other hand before lowering the hand going to knock. Getting cold feet now of all times.
There was only silence behind the door to Astro's room, it wouldn't be surprising to find the moon toon asleep honestly - the guy did love taking naps at any chance he got.
But, to sprouts luck - he didn't have to knock. Astro himself opening the door just at the same second, pausing a little bit at the sight of the other.
"Oh- Hello Sprout.."
Oh! Fuck. Sprout blinks, sweating slightly as he stares at the other.
“Astro. I see you’re actually awake for once.”
That. Felt a little mean. Hm. His tone is flat, awkwardly holding the plate to the other.
“You. Did not come down for lunch so I just. I thought. Ah… sorry.”
Ouch. He can agree that he did sleep a lot but.. still. ouch.
"I was just reading.. I didn't notice the time but thank you.."
Two little stars appear to take the plate from Sprout, looking at the food.
"This looks really good.. Thank you again.."
He looks away from the other. Humming a little.
“It’s. Not a problem. I really don’t mind making food for you. Or any toon really.”
He rubs his arm slightly. Before crossing them.
“Hope you. Like it.” Sprout looks at his feet, awkward. Great.
Astro looks up to Sprout, smiling a tiny bit now before stepping to the side a little.
"Do you want to.. sit with me?"
This was a really long shot and Astro knew that well. but it had been. way too long since he talked to Sprout at all.
He blinks a little. Looking at the other with wide eyes for a moment. Just a moment. Debating in his mind. Honestly he had. Missed Astro. It was hard to even talk to the other because Dandy was almost always around.
He sighs gently.
“I. Yeah. Sure I can spare some time for a… a.. friend.”
"Come in"
He walks into his room, motioning for Sprout to follow him in - turning on a lamp so the room wasn't in full darkness. As much as Astro could see fine in the dark - on account he could glow - but Sprout probably needed a bit more light to navigate through his room.
Sprout blinks as he follows in. Thankful to not be waddling in the dark. He does a little look around of the other’s room. Eyes wide.
“So uh. How have you been?”
His room is... quite a mess. Pillows everywhere, blankets piled up in a corner and a small pile of clothes in another. No wonder he had Tisha help him so often.
"I've been.. alright. What about you?"
Astro sits on his bed, two glowing stars holding his plate while another one grabbed the food for him to eat.
“I’ve been pretty good. Nothing too eventful happening since the last errand run.”
He shrugs a little, quietly plopping on the floor. Tail swishing.
"you can grab a pillow to sit on if you want, Sprout"
He watches as his friend just. Plops onto the ground.
"But I'm glad you've been okay.. have you been sleeping well too?"
“I’m alright like this, Astro. No worries.” He immediately falters at the question.
“…. Uh. Yes! I have. Uhuh!!”
He says like a liar.
Yeah, that's not flying past Astro. He gives Sprout a certain look, like he can just sniff out the lie like pebble sniffs out items on the ground.
"Sprout. You don't have to lie to me."
He crosses his arms, looking away from the other.
“I’m fine.” A sigh leaves him.
“It’s not that big of a deal, Astro.”
"If you're losing sleep it is a big deal. Do I have to check your dreams?"
He's mostly joking, trying to keep it lighthearted - but he probably still will have a peek. Just to make sure everything was actually okay.
“No.”
He says it a little too fast. A little too panicked.
“There’s nothing to check! At all. Don’t worry.” Whatever it is it sounds like he’s a little. Scared to talk about it. To confront it.
Yeah that tips it off for Astro, he puts his plate off to the side, pretty much forgetting about the rest of the food (not like he's eaten much of it anyways)

"If theres something going on.. you can tell me.. I worry about you"
Sprout lightly grips his arms tighter. Guilt bubbling up in his chest. There was no need to worry about him. He was fine!

“I. I just. I don’t want to bother you. I mean you have 36 other toons here to worry about. I don’t want you to add more to the pile.”
"I've been handling everyone just fine, Sprout. I have this entire time. You're not a bother - ever."
He got up now, stepping over and sitting in front of Sprout, two of his little stars bringing over his star pillow and offering it out to sprout for some comfort.
"Talk to me.. tell me whats up."
“…. They’re about Dandy. As per usual. It’s. Why I never went to you about them.”
He does accept the pillow. Gently holding it.
“I suppose I was a little scared you’d just shut me down if I ever. Talked about it. About him really.”
He’s not mad. At least not at Astro.
“I’m just. I suppose I’m scared. Of him. And I doubt you remember enough to know why.”
Hardly any toons really remember death. As far as he was aware none of them remember dying. It’s just a hazy blur. Like they passed out n were carried upstairs. Same with watching other toons die. No memories
He nods along, keeping his face pretty neutral as he sits and listens to his friend.
"Even if I dont remember, whatever you feel about him, your fear of him, you're allowed to feel it. I would have never shut you down about this - especially with how much it affects you."
He reaches a hand out now, gently putting it onto Sprouts arm.
“Sorry. I just. I don’t. Know how to feel about him. About what he’s done. I guess it’s just because he doesn’t seem. Sorry.”
Which is funny. Dandy has talked about feeling some form of guilt over the situation. Not exactly guilty for what he did but guilty for not correcting the incident.
“.. I don’t want to sound like I’m trying to change your opinion on him. He’s your best friend after all I just. I just.”
A sigh. Hate is the best word to describe it but even that doesn’t cover it.
"Its okay that you dont like him. Just because I do doesn't mean you should put how you feel aside."
Astro has had. probably a lot of talks with Dandy about that guilt - but he can very much see how Sprout would come to that conclusion - he knew Dandy well enough to know that the flower would always just. pretend everything is okay over confronting things.
"Is there anything I can do to help? To make whatever you're feeling and going through easier to handle?"
“… I don’t know. I don’t.”
Probably not. It just. Hurt. A lot often. Honestly if everyone knew the things he did Dandy would. Not have any friends. A lot of toons already stopped liking him as is. His mouth twitches, frown prominent.
“…. I just wish I could. Let all this anger go properly.”
He blinks back tears violently. Hurt. Hurt hurt hurt.

He tries to think of something that might help - anything that could make this easier on Sprout - he's drawing a lot of blanks right now.
"How about I find a way for you to do that? In a safe way of course.. Maybe tonight I can take a peek at your dreams and try to make something that'll help - only if you're okay with that of course"
“I.. mm. I don’t. Want you to see something you shouldn’t.”
He looks away. There’s so much he knows that he. Doesn’t want to share. In fear of the others? Himself?
… Dandy? He doesn’t know.
“But I won’t. Stop you really. I mean. Sleeping decently would be nice. Considering this has been ongoing for.. months now.”

"I don't think anything is worse than seeing some of Boxtens nightmares." He's only kind of joking there- for some reason that toon had really disturbing nightmares... Not the time to think about that though.
"I promise I wont dig deep, just peeking in enough to make sure you actually get some proper sleep."
He stares at the other for a long moment. Before sighing.
“Alright. If you’re certain.” He holds the pillow a little tighter. Its not that he doesn’t trust Astro. Far from it. More just. Scared to be vulnerable for once.
"Absolutely certain, Sprout."
He gives the other a soft smile, trying his hardest to reassure Sprout about him doing this.
"I'm always happy to help, you're my friend. I care about you."
He just. Stares at the other. Wide eyed. Tail swishing behind him. Mouth twitching.
“Ah… thank… you. You’re my friend too, Astro. Even if we don’t. Talk really.”
"Yeah.. I guess that's.. my fault we don't really talk anymore."
His smile drops a little bit.
"But.. maybe we can find some time to hang out? Only if you want to of course, I assume you can get pretty busy"
“I can always try to make time for a friend. And I would.. like to hang out more,,,”
His tail is wagging so fast.
Astro has to hold in a little laugh at the sight of his friend.
"That sounds good. I'm free for the rest of the day, if you are."
“I’m free up until roughly dinner time. So I’m available now if you wanna do anything.”

Sprout’s tail thumps against the floor, looking at the other. His expression is complicated. Not in a bad way just. Happy. Maybe even something more.
“Ah the… sentiment is mutual.”

Astro reaches out to gently put his hands onto Sprouts cheeks.

Astro can't help himself, He leans in closer - and at first only places a very quick and soft kiss just to the corner of sprouts mouth.

He reaches a hand out now, gently putting it onto Sprouts arm.
“Sorry. I just. I don’t. Know how to feel about him. About what he’s done. I guess it’s just because he doesn’t seem. Sorry.”
Which is funny. Dandy has talked about feeling some form of guilt over the situation. Not exactly guilty for what he did but guilty for not correcting the incident.
“.. I don’t want to sound like I’m trying to change your opinion on him. He’s your best friend after all I just. I just.”
A sigh. Hate is the best word to describe it but even that doesn’t cover it.
"Its okay that you dont like him. Just because I do doesn't mean you should put how you feel aside."
Astro has had. probably a lot of talks with Dandy about that guilt - but he can very much see how Sprout would come to that conclusion - he knew Dandy well enough to know that the flower would always just. pretend everything is okay over confronting things.
"Is there anything I can do to help? To make whatever you're feeling and going through easier to handle?"
“… I don’t know. I don’t.”
Probably not. It just. Hurt. A lot often. Honestly if everyone knew the things he did Dandy would. Not have any friends. A lot of toons already stopped liking him as is. His mouth twitches, frown prominent.
“…. I just wish I could. Let all this anger go properly.”
He blinks back tears violently. Hurt. Hurt hurt hurt.
"You don't have to know, it's alright"
He tries to think of something that might help - anything that could make this easier on Sprout - he's drawing a lot of blanks right now.
"How about I find a way for you to do that? In a safe way of course.. Maybe tonight I can take a peek at your dreams and try to make something that'll help - only if you're okay with that of course"
“I.. mm. I don’t. Want you to see something you shouldn’t.”
He looks away. There’s so much he knows that he. Doesn’t want to share. In fear of the others? Himself?
… Dandy? He doesn’t know.
“But I won’t. Stop you really. I mean. Sleeping decently would be nice. Considering this has been ongoing for.. months now.”
Sprout.
"I don't think anything is worse than seeing some of Boxtens nightmares." He's only kind of joking there- for some reason that toon had really disturbing nightmares... Not the time to think about that though.
"I promise I wont dig deep, just peeking in enough to make sure you actually get some proper sleep."
He stares at the other for a long moment. Before sighing.
“Alright. If you’re certain.” He holds the pillow a little tighter. Its not that he doesn’t trust Astro. Far from it. More just. Scared to be vulnerable for once.
"Absolutely certain, Sprout."
He gives the other a soft smile, trying his hardest to reassure Sprout about him doing this.
"I'm always happy to help, you're my friend. I care about you."
He just. Stares at the other. Wide eyed. Tail swishing behind him. Mouth twitching.
“Ah… thank… you. You’re my friend too, Astro. Even if we don’t. Talk really.”
"Yeah.. I guess that's.. my fault we don't really talk anymore."
His smile drops a little bit.
"But.. maybe we can find some time to hang out? Only if you want to of course, I assume you can get pretty busy"
“I can always try to make time for a friend. And I would.. like to hang out more,,,”
His tail is wagging so fast.
Astro has to hold in a little laugh at the sight of his friend.
"That sounds good. I'm free for the rest of the day, if you are."
“I’m free up until roughly dinner time. So I’m available now if you wanna do anything.”
You should make out violently.
"I'd love to. I've honestly just enjoyed spending time with you here.."
Astro does just. shuffle a little closer.
Sprout’s tail thumps against the floor, looking at the other. His expression is complicated. Not in a bad way just. Happy. Maybe even something more.
“Ah the… sentiment is mutual.”
"Have I ever told you how cute you are, Sprout?"
Astro reaches out to gently put his hands onto Sprouts cheeks.
What. What. What. Sprout’s cheeks flush red, wide eyed.
“Wuh- n-nuhuh. No you-“
"Nope! No passing it off, you're cute! It's true!"
He laughs a little, his own cheeks flushing a little.
"The way you act, your tail wagging, you just in general."
Sprout whines, nuzzling into the other’s hold with a purr. He’s so flustered right now it’s a little comical.
