I can still taste the sea salt from your lips and I can still feel it on your hair. It runs smoothly between my fingers and evokes a skinny dip at the beach of golden sands we never got to see together. You crack a smile between pictures unafraid you’ll come out bad. I hold your neck with a grip just strong enough that you’ll tilt your head to perfectly fit its mouth with mine. Pressing my chest against yours I can feel the waves crashing under our bodies through your shaking bones. A violent stroke of wind threatens this could be the last time but your hand under my shirt hints you’ll soon take me home. You strip me of all my power in front of an island ablaze with light and for a silent moment I feel like i’ve never had to live my love in secrecy. This summer night I told you: I will protect you always.
