okay so i had to ask my mum to make sure what i’m saying is correct ( but then again my mum could also be wrong since she moved to norway as a 6 year old ), but it’s not really disrespectful to call thai idols or thais’ by their legal first name, it’s just uncomfortable and weird.
now i’ve seen people going like “but nichkhun goes by his first name!” and that’s true, he does go by his first name. but that’s because he has introduced himself as nichkhun and NOT by a nickname.
WHILST ten, bambam, lisa and sorn have all introduced themselves as their stage names / nicknames and NOT by their legal name.
to put it into a european/western persepctive; to call a thai person by their legal name when they have introduced themselves to you with their nickname, is like a friend or stranger going up to you and calling you by your first and middle name instead of your name or nickname. it would be weird right? right.
also while we’re on the subject. pls stop calling and reffering thai idols as the prince and princesses of thailand.
i know it’s out of love but trust me, it makes thais highly uncomfortable ESPECIALLY since thais’ seriously love the thai royal family. like okay listen you can jailed for disrespecting the royal family, it doesn’t matter if you are a foreigner or not.
AND calling thai idols prince and princesses or thailand is not only uncomfortable for them, it’s uncomfortable for thais in general.
so please, for the love of tacos don’t refer to thai idols who have introduced themselves with their nicknames with their legal name. and don’t call them prince or princess of thailand
