"Optimism" - A Marc Bartra One-Shot
I guzzle down my martini, tap the bar, and the waiter nods his head; preparing to serve me my third of the hour.
Without turning around my whole body, i glance over my shoulder and see two men walk in the bar.
“So?! Thats what you have to say when Thiago Alcantara and Marc Bartra walk into a bar?!”
“They aren’t movie stars, they are just soccer players who aren’t even professional yet.” I say as i take the first sip of my fresh martini.
“What? I’m not in the mood okay.” I say as i continue to drink my liquid therapy. The best type of therapy when you were just dumped.
Gina places her hand on my back. “I understand you are in some pain, but this is your first night out in months, why spend the night thinking of Ryan when you can just let go. At least come and talk to them with me.”
I look over at them once more as they are seated at a booth across the bar.
“Nah, I’m good.” I say as i guzzle down the martini and tap the bar once again.
“Fourth is coming up ma’m”. The bartender says as he takes away the empty glass.
“Oh come on Meg! you don’t even have to talk to them, just come over there with me.” Megan says as she stares at me with those big hazel eyes.
Gina squeals as i stand up with her and grab my fresh martini. There is no way I’m walking over there without alcohol.
“Hola.” Gina says as she bats her eye lashes.
Thiago’s eyes light up as he smiles flirtatiously at Gina.
They continue to flirt, and i am too busy drowning in my martini to care.
After a few minutes i realize that my martini is now empty.
I place my hand on Gina’s back, “i’ll be right back.” I say as i raise my empty glass and walk back to the bar.
“Another please.” I say as i sit back down at the bar.
Out of the corner of my eye, i see a tall, dark man lean against the bar next to me.
“Hola.” I hear his deep, rustic voice and am compelled to look over.
Unimpressed, i look at him. “Hi Marc.”
“Oh you know my name?” He says flirtatiously.
I turn to face him, with an unimpressed glance. “Please don’t put on that act, we are in barcelona. Everyone and their dog knows your name.”
Marc just chuckles and looks at me up and down. “Sorry to bother you.”
“What?” I ask looking back at him.
“You seem annoyed so I’m sorry i said hi.” He said with a smirk on his face, still leaning on the bar.
“No, I’m sorry its just… its nothing you did so don’t apologize.” I say looking down feeling embarrassed. I look up at him and extend my hand. “Im Megan.”
“Nice to meet you.” He says as he smiles and shakes my hand slowly.
“So since you know my name, you a clue?” Marc asks, trying to start the casually bar small talk. The last thing I’m interested in doing. But I’ve already embarrassed myself my being so rude, i try and give him the benefit of the doubt.
“Actually I’m not.” I say as the bar tender places my martini in front of me.
“Really? Mind if i ask how come?”
“I just…don’t really like footballers i guess. I love the game, but in my experience i don’t like how they act.”
“Thats true with some, but what makes you think that they are all the same?” Marc asks intrigued.
“Ive dated a few and they have all ended badly, more than one woman at once lets just say.” I say with a small chuckle.
“Sorry, pretty deep for a first conversation.” I say again with a shy chuckle. “probably the alcohol talking.” I say smiling up at Marc, who is still intrigued and who is standing closer to me.
“Well,” Marc says taking a step closer. “you shouldn’t make that assumption about me. I am not like most.” He says with a smile, but i can still sense the seriousness in his answer.
“Wow, thats the first optimistic thing you’ve said all night” Marc says with wide eyes and a smile.
I giggle, “You intrigue me.”
“How?” He says as he whispers in my ear, “i thought all footballers were the same?”
I bite my lip as his warm breath on my neck sends chills down my spine.
He pulls away from my neck as i take a step closer, placing my hand on his chest as i whisper in his ear, “You’re different.”
I pull away, my hand slowly caressing down his arm, “In a good way.”
I start to blush as he smiles at me, so i look away and take a sip of my martini.
“You’ve had too much to drink.” Marc says as he grabs my hand and sets the martini down on the bar, his hand still holding mine as they hit the bar.
“Let me drive you home.” He says.
I smile and bite my lips once again.
I place my other hand on the back of his head as i pull his lips to mine.
“What was that for?” He asks with a smile as our lips are just inches apart.
“Im being optimistic.” I say, staring into his crystal eyes.
“I thought you didn’t like being optimistic?”
I run my fingers through his hair on the back of his head before pulling him in once more for a seductive kiss.
“Optimism doesn’t seem so bad after all.”
