Come check out the exhibit and learn more about the history behind it during our March panel conversation! ~ Gorham’s Impact on the Soil: On March 5th, from 10:30am-12, come learn from environmentalists, conservationists, and botanists about the environmental impact on Mashapaug Park’s soil from years of industrial use. ~ Unpolished Echoes, a new collaboration between artist-curators Holly Ewald and Becci Davis, connects visitors of the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium with the sights and sounds of nearby Mashapaug Park. The exhibition centers the natural world and its survival. This collection of artworks, artifacts, documents, images, and stories accompany a programming series discussing the artwork in the exhibit and environmental legacy of Mashapaug Pond. I am delighted to share a new collaboration between me and @hewaldgraffic titled #UnpolishedEchoes ~ It's hard to believe that our first collaboration was over 3 years ago! That project, Unpolished Legacies, was a response to Designing Brilliance, an exhibition highlighting the silver product made by Gorham Manufacturing Company, which was on view at the time at the RISD Museum. ~ This new iteration connects visitors of the Roger Williams Park Museum of Natural History and Planetarium with the sights and sounds of nearby Mashapaug Park on the remediated site of Gorham. Rather than focusing on the company, this exhibition centers the natural world and its survival. Janaya Kizzie is an artist, writer and historian working in Providence. Kizzie considers each work a binding of some kind, in the literal and esoteric sense. Often invoking the tropes of the horror genre, Kizzie experiments with narrative, worldbuilding, and non-linear time. Kizzie's work has been exhibited by the RISD Museum, the Jamestown Arts Center, and the New Bedford Art Museum. 🖤 You can enter Janaya’s alternative reality game and virtual performance, Love, Gamemaster by using the QR codes at Hera or visiting circleofsound.vision/ 🖤 In describing this work, Janaya says, "alternative reality games blur the line between real and created worlds, traditional reality and experienced reality, seriousness and play.  Come witness and play along. Intended to express collective memory, some of these commemorative works no longer reflect their communities, and many stories remain unmarked and untold.
