Inkspell itself was a place where Verso found himself more often than not. If he wasn't at the flower shop, he could wander the aisles for ages. It was perhaps his lucky day that the shop was a bit quieter than usual, the lampad was easily lost in ignoring most others that passed by him in favor of reading every single title that he managed to gaze after.
Still, he was more morose than usual â if that was at all possible for Verso â as if the sky could open up as soon as he walked outside to dump water on him since the little stormcloud over his head wasn't doing enough. Just as a treat, for the silent gods to laugh. There were others in this aisle, but still, he was shoulder checked by someone as they dropped a book. The lampad grimaced and bent down to retrieve the book the stranger had dropped, only to look up into a familiar face that definitely wasn't the stranger who'd dropped said novel.
BDSM for Dummies was bright on the cover, and Verso looked between the book, then the face, then the book, then the face again.
"I think you...dropped this."
he wasn't a very big book person , but the thing about suddenly having a long life meant you had to do something to fill it with . he'd never gone in to inkspell before and decided to look around the shelves and people watch since he didn't have much else to do before his shift at nevernight . the couple of books he'd looked at so far were ones he'd picked up for kelsey that eric thought she would like and the sound of a book hitting the floor got his attention for a second and he almost bent down to grab it too but got beat to it . â yeah , that's not mine . don't need a how to 101 book on that . a little more advanced . â eric laughed before he shook his head . â i didn't know they had books like that in here . â  Â
đ¨đŠđđ§đđđşđđđžđ âşâş @startingprophecies
it had only been two years, but it was enough to feel like a lifetime. the drunken oracle had been a product of her family's long history in the hunting society and it was something that her parents had taken the mantle of without the help of her or the rest of her siblings. with her mother's passing and father bed ridden for the foreseeable future, manning the bar now felt like a surreal experience. faces that she'd avoided since her brother had been disowned and she'd renounced her membership that looked the same but different at the same time, some shocked by her being there and others angry. kelsey tried to ignore it all, passing a beer to the customer that asked for it before fixing her eyes on the new person at the bar. " what will you have ? "Â
eric took advantage of the fact that people wouldn't be able to recognize him easily . he wasn't scrawny and confused anymore with more confidence and if someone did try to say something to him about being there , he could make them forget . â root beer . â he didn't want anything his sister had to offer at the bar , but he'd eaten enough that the bodies around him didn't sound of smell like a gourmet feast . â maybe an apron if you need help . i've gotten good at making drinks at nevernight . â their parents had kept everything a secret on why the both of them had disappeared , but after what happened maybe people wouldn't ask that many questions . Â
it's not necessarily weird . the nymph is not trying to imply that it is , if anything it comes as a surprise . â i don't know . maybe it made me realize that i never would have asked my parents to accompany me to the underworld . â she admits , eyes staying soft despite the heaviness of that statement . â i will try to remember ko , i like it . â she decides , taking a step closer to the portal before she glances at the other . â there are rumors that these shadows escaped a certain region down below . i know where it is , so i am going to explore . see if i can find any answers . â preferably those that would help them get rid of the shadows .
when she said it that way it did sound silly , but chicha laughed as she shook her head . â my mom's a fury , and my dad's a daemon like me . there aren't any better people to go with except for . . . i guess marina since she's a lampad , but i don't know if she'd come with me . â chicha didn't know if she'd go to the underworld with her if she asked anyway . â by yourself ? you're not scared ? â  Â
âThere is a limit to how much they can sell you legally, and eight shots falls below that,â she says dryly. Itâs not great, nor very healthy if done all too often, but Yurena keeps a tight control of how much caffeine she usually drinks. She will have to cut back caffeine for the next couple of days but her schedule isnât too terrible for the next week so she can afford to do as much. âI was specifically recommended the Caramel Layer Cake, but one of my coworkers rather enjoys the cake pops as well.âÂ
At her question, Yurena hums and pats her backpack.Â
âI have lunch to eat at a nearby park, I just needed coffee to drink while I ate,â she reassures, faintly impressed by the others' concern. Most would just be surprised by the quantity of coffee she consumed, and then move on. âI do appreciate the concern, however.â
she almost wanted to ask what the legal limit was , but she didn't want to give the other any ideas . eight was already a lot to her , but humans never seemed to know their limits and it seemed like the other woman knew what she was doing . â caramel layer cake . . . â that also sounded delicious , but sweet enough that she'd be the only one eating it . â i'll get that , a cake pop , and a couple of others that aren't as sweet . â then her mom and dad would help her eat them and what they didn't , nailah and marina would . â that's good then , something to help you absorb all of that . you don't do this often , do you ? â chicha asked as she straightened up from looking at the glass .
the enchantress cannot help herself . she is surprised that anyone would turn a visit to the underworld into a family adventure , though there is no judgment behind it . â you're serious . â but gods , she hopes that the words that follow are nothing but a joke ⸝ that her mother would not actually kill her for joining a stranger . you never know , least of all when dealing with supernaturals . . . â which name do you prefer ? â she asks , a quiet laugh leaving her lips as she takes her in . how interesting . â i'm talia . â
chicha looked at the other with a quiet confusion before she nodded , smiling slightly . â why wouldn't i be serious ? â maybe it was weird but she didn't want to go into the underworld by herself . she'd get hopelessly lost and scared and her parents were the best people to go with her . her mom had been there before, maybe not her dad , but between the two of them all three of them would come back out . â either one is fine with me . my friends call me ko but my mom calls me chicha so whatever you feel more comfortable with . it's nice to meet you , talia . why are you down here ? â  Â
"I am being overcharged for waffles made of cardboard and a coffee that's never been a bean so, seeing as violence is against the law I've resorted to pettiness." he gestured around, attention back at the other. "And nowhere does it say this is a non-smoking bar." he put the cigarette out anyway, and although he was not through with annoyance, he didn't let it show. "Can't imagine why anyone would be upset about a cig, it's not like I'm charging them 'crybaby tax'. 'Sides, more than half of population on this island is like....immortal. Did you know that? I just learnt that like a month back and wow was that the weight right off my chest."
â it sounds like karma a little bit to me . you shouldn't ghost people , it's not nice . â she had the same conversation with nailah and marina it seemed like every day , and she didn't understand why anyone would do that . texts were so easy to send . she chose not to say anything about the crybaby part , since she wasn't crying and he was the one that was if you asked her . â a lot of us immortals have sensitive senses and it smells and tastes gross . since you just found out about it , i can see how you didn't know that . â    Â
She is not the sort to care about coming off as brusque, but unfortunately for her conscience, Yurena is nearly incapable of being outright cruel whenever she is in the wrong. Her parents raised her to be relatively polite, after all. Or so she thinks.Â
A deep sigh escapes her at the realization that she had jumped to conclusions, so she glances at the display case and then back at the other. âI donât recommend getting what I did, medically speaking. If you are not used to eight shots of espresso they would wreck chaos on your nerves,â she explains clinically as she looks at the different sweets. âI have heard good reviews of the passion fruit desserts, however, or the caramel.â
â oh , no thanks . i don't need espresso but . . . i don't think that's good for you . did they really let you order that ? â chicha asked . it didn't sound like something a human heart could handle , but maybe she was a different species and she couldn't sense it . either way it sounded like something she shouldn't have for her health . â did you only get a drink ? i don't really like passion fruit , but i do love caramel . maybe i'll get one of the cake pops . â nailah didn't like sweets but she knew that marina did , and she knew that her hybrid friend liked chocolate . â are you not going to get something to offset the espresso ? â    Â

the wings give her away . it surprises her that they are unfolded and unglamored , but they offer slight reassurance . at least the daemon's not studying the entrance to a world that would quite literally kill her .
â your mother ? â the statement draws her mind to her own child , tucked away safely at aurelina's home . she is far too young to come along , but just for a moment it makes her question all of her choices . with her father's absence , it seems reckless to go on a mission ⸝ but the enchantress knows the place like she knows her heart and kairos needs answers . talia takes a deep , steadying breath before she offers a small smile . â you could come along , but if you are waiting for someone else . . . â
they both might get a little irritated about it later , but she nods enthusiastically . â yes ! my mom and dad are meeting me here . i guess they're running a little late , though . â they went somewhere fun just the two of them that morning and she hadn't seen them since they left the house , but didn't want to bother them . her curiosity about the underworld wasn't that big of a deal . â oh , thank you for the offer but my mom would kill me for going with a stranger . i'm chicha , by the way ! some people call me ko . what's your name ? â Â
could smell him when he took the first step at the glade, but he'd tried to ignore it. he could feel the restlessness that felt like it was moving through his veins, the night so close that he shouldn't leave. he should've been smarter and gone into town for snacks and epsom salts for the next day a week ago, but eli had always been reckless. the crescent shaped mark still visible on his neck despite his enhanced was proof enough of that  â the reminder of it enough to keep him a healthy distance away. â you shouldn't be here this close to a full moon, â answers quietly as he knew he could be heard in the distance between them. â i don't want to talk. â Â
he deserved that even though he didn't like it . eric had been reckless when he'd met with eli that night and even though he hadn't bitten him to hurt him , the mental hurt was real . â i'm sorry , eli . i know i shouldn't be asking for forgiveness when i don't deserve it . i just wanted to make sure that you were okay more than anything . â not only because of what he'd done but because of what was happening around town . eli had been his friend before anything else and the other was more streeet smart than he was and could probably take care of himself , but eric still worried . it seemed like that was all he'd been doing . â are you okay ? did you get the stuff you need for the full moon ? â   Â
She smiled an awkward smile, shifting from one feet to another as her fingers wrapped tighter against the straps of her bag. "My husband's in there but he's in his seventies so they just assumed I was lying and kicked me out. He's got prostate issues, nasty stuff." there was a moment in which she successfully held in a chuckle, but it eventually passed and she allowed her expression to indicate she was merely taking a piss. "Nah, I'm just messin'. I am actually a journalist. Sort of. There's a guy in there who saw some crazy shit last night and I'd really appreciate getting to him before Kairos Journal does." At his deduction she nodded, looking over her shoulder once again as if information would magically slip into her head if she fidgeted enough. "Right, right. So uh, you happen to know when this shift change happens? 'Cause that's a solid idea."
she may have been serious , but eric started to laugh anyway . â then they would've let you in , â he pointed out not bothered by how obvious the lie was . considering how serious everyone was these days someone that wasn't was welcome in his life . â saw something like the shadow shit ? yeah , it's creepy . i just assumed someone cursed kairos or something . â eric wasn't being very serious , he wasn't sure what happened and had tried his hardest to care , but since he'd been changed he hadn't had the same around of fear towards stuff that he used to . it was the only thing he could safely say that he liked about being a vampyr . he looked up at the hospital before he shook his head . â no , i don't . different nurses come in at different times so it's hard to tell . why not let the journal get the information ? putting yourself in the middle of it seems silly . â Â
she didn't want a drink and wasn't used to the easy way that eric was acting now. kelsey picked up the drink without paying it attention mostly to have something to hold and focus on instead of the new version she struggled to see as her shy little brother that looked sharper somehow. " i'm fine. " she felt like she was, at least. there had been a couple of interactions she'd had with other people that had made her nervous and she felt like there were gaps sometimes, like she knew people but couldn't remember their names. " i'm just tired. " she explained it away to the both of them. " our parents are still looking for the both of us. i didn't want to lead them to you. "
she wasn't fine but he didn't want to push when he'd just found her . eric didn't like the rundown crappy apartment she was in when it was dangerous on its own but especially now with how much was going on . â if you say so . â eric didn't think she would tell him the truth either way . she always did that to protect him and he still disliked it . eric didn't know how to feel about that , not when their parents had disowned him so quickly . why would they be looking for him now unless it was to finish the job off ? â why ? â eric asked since he couldn't think of another reason . â they made it clear where they stood so why are they looking for us now ? â  Â
