“people were staring at lucien because, i imagine, he was so beautiful. i asked him why people were always staring at him. he said, “they’ve always done that.” there was no way to explain it – actually, people do stare at lucien.” – jack kerouac in a letter to allen ginsberg
Jack Kerouac’s Beliefs and Techniques for Modern Prose
1. Scribbled secret notebooks, and wild typewritten pages, for yr own joy 2. Submissive to everything, open, listening 3. Try never get drunk outside yr own house 4. Be in love with yr life 5. Something that you feel will find its own form 6. Be crazy dumbsaint of the mind 7. Blow as deep as you want to blow 8. Write what you want bottomless from bottom of the mind 9. The unspeakable visions of the individual 10. No time for poetry but exactly what is 11. Visionary tics shivering in the chest 12. In tranced fixation dreaming upon object before you 13. Remove literary, grammatical and syntactical inhibition 14. Like Proust be an old teahead of time 15. Telling the true story of the world in interior monolog 16. The jewel center of interest is the eye within the eye 17. Write in recollection and amazement for yourself 18. Work from pithy middle eye out, swimming in language sea 19. Accept loss forever 20. Believe in the holy contour of life 21. Struggle to sketch the flow that already exists intact in mind 22. Dont think of words when you stop but to see picture better 23. Keep track of every day the date emblazoned in yr morning 24. No fear or shame in the dignity of yr experience, language & knowledge 25. Write for the world to read and see yr exact pictures of it 26. Bookmovie is the movie in words, the visual American form 27. In praise of Character in the Bleak inhuman Loneliness 28. Composing wild, undisciplined, pure, coming in from under, crazier the better 29. You’re a Genius all the time 30. Writer-Director of Earthly movies Sponsored & Angeled in Heaven

My best friend had to memorize some lines of a poem for his English class and he chose Howl and I love him
Camille on her Instagram account: “You turned my world upside down. Your fire is something I had never experienced before. You lived with such passion, loved with such passion. My best lover, my best friend. It’s tragic because we all think of you as a superhero but even in your last moments you were heroic. I am beyond honored to have spent these moments with you. Your family that I consider family, your friends that have become best friends. Thank you Dylan. Anyone who has ever had the honor of meeting you knows how fucking gentle, sensitive, beautiful a person you are. You’ve inspired so many and will keep on doing so. Dylan, I love you forever.”
RIP Dylan Rieder

(this is a poem I wrote a while back, just earlier this year actually. i still stand by it and out of all my high nighttime poetry, this is one that doesn't suck. thanks) - I have avoided love poems I have avoided love poems because of a fear of cliches I have avoided love poems because they were hard to work with I have avoided love poems because I didn't want to become ordinary The day I write a love poem is today I will not exist if I cannot hear your banter about the meaning of life in between the sounds of pebbles falling into the creek. I will not exist without your smile. Your casualty and confidence, your kindness. I have called you precious Then called myself a burden You have said No O brother You are no burden I have said Thank you O brother I didn't mean to upset you "YOU DIDN'T! I'm busy sometimes—" "I know you are, I hope you aren't overwhelmed." I try to give you advice as great as you've given me but it is helpless. I will never be half the man you are. I will never be the lover you are. You are a lover of everything. Why do you appreciate everything? The spring evenings of my youth will not go unappreciated. You will not go unappreciated, I have told you a thousand times Do you believe me Do you even want to believe me do you realize you are more than this flawed human you see yourself as do you realize how much I trust you do you realize how important you are to so many people do you realize it do you O my brother It isn't banter, your thoughts on life. It is art, it is golden and must be worshipped- Thrown upon a Pedestal I will listen to it everyday. I love you, put it on the record, I love you, let everybody know, let them get sick and tired of hearing it, let it be known by every body, living or dead or anything in between. I am in between if I am without your love. I am blessed to have gotten to know you, Why , though, Why did you open up? I love you, O my brother. I have avoided love poems because I feared they would make me fall in even deeper. Frankly I was right.
It's so nice when you feel so connected to a writer to the point where you believe they're looking down on you and steering you in the right direction.
my waitress was pouring me more coffee and she said “sorry there such tiny cups” and I accidentally said “they sure are handsome little boys” and she just looked at me and walked away I don’t think I’m going to be able to look her in the eye for the rest of the meal or ever come back here again
