Agility Time!
Today Mommy and Bea went to agility class. It was super duper fun. Mommy says that "Bea really killed it." We did all kinds of complicated courses and Bea jumped very high at the jumps. Bea also got to run up the A-Frame which is Beas very favorite thing. But even more than that Bea loves it when at the very end of a run, Mommy starts cheering for Bea and Bea gets to jump into Mommy's arms! It is exciting for Bea. Today was an exciting day.
Love,
Bea

Everyday Mommy goes to what she calls "work" but Bea just calls it school. Bea and Mommy bike to school, then Bea gets to play all day long! In the first picture is Beas friend, Jack. Jack first came to school last year when he was just a little puppy. He was smaller than Bea but than he grew. Now Bea and Jack wrestle and play chase. Then when we get tired of that, Bea starts to dig. Mommy says Bea is something called a digging nuisance but Bea doesn't really know what that is. Today, Bea, Haley, and the other Jack all dug a hole! It was super fun. But now Bea is tired.
Love,
Bea
This is Gunner. This is Beas very best friend in the whole wide world. Gunner is an English Springer Spaniel and he is a hunting dog! Bea probably would not be a very good hunting dog because Bea likes to chase things and then play with them! But Gunner is a very good friend. Sometimes Mommy takes Bea over to Gunners house and we play and play and play until Mommy and Mommy's best friend tell us to calm down. Every once in a while Mommy and I stay over at Gunners house and it is so awesome! We share food and water, and follow Iggy the turtle around the house. Bea doesn't really think that Iggy likes Bea and Gunner very much, but that's okay because dogs don't play with turtles anyway. Gunner has a very nice nose and he likes to show it off... (which is why this picture features his nose.) Bea loves Gunner very much and we go on adventures sometimes. Bea just wants everyone to know how great Beas friends are!
Love,
Bea
This is Beas big brother Atticus. Mommy tells Bea that he used to be a racing greyhound. Mommy says the he was very fast. Bea isn't really sure she believes that because all Atticus does is sleep on the couch. Sometimes Beas big brother likes to play but it only lasts for a few minutes. Atticus also does not have many teeth because he tried to chew a doorknob once and they broke. Bea is much too smart to do that. Also, Atticus sometimes sits on Bea when Bea is on the couch so that Bea will move. Atticus can be very rude to Bea. But Atticus is Beas brother and Bea loves him very much. Though not as much as Bea loves Mommy. Bea just wanted everyone to meet him.
Love,
Bea
Amazing Day
Today was an especially amazing day. Beas mommy thought that today looked like a really beautiful day so she decided to take Bea on something called a hike. It was really just a walk in a new place, but sometimes Mommy has special names for things. She put Beas pack on, which Bea loves by the way, and she loaded Bea up in the car. We drove for what seemed like FOREVER! But then we got to this place that smelled like all sorts of really wonderful things. There were really small squirrels which Mommy called chipmunks. There were new trees, plants, and people to smell too! IT WAS AWESOME! We "hiked" for a little bit, when all of a sudden Bea heard water. Bea looked at Mommy to make sure it was okay but she just smiled and kept walking. Sometimes Bea thinks she doesn't know that you HAVE to make sure things are okay before you keep going. Silly Mommy. But anyway, we got to this place with rushing water. Mommy wanted to keep going, but Bea was a little nervous so she had to carry Bea across the water. We kept crossing the freezing water for a while, until we came to place where it seemed like the water was falling from the sky! From the sky! Mommy said it was okay though, so Bea decided it was safe. Mommy let Bea explore a little and Bea found out that Bea really loves scaling rocks. Bea climbed a little ledge and Mommy called Bea a climber dog. It was super cool. Then we ate lunch, and Mommy let Bea have some of her delicious turkey sandwich. After we left Bea took a long nap, because sometimes exciting things wear Bea out. Next thing Bea knows, Beas best friend Gunner is walking through the door! Gunner is an English Springer Spaniel, and he is Beas best play buddy. His Mommy and my Mommy are best friends too, so we see each other a lot! Mommy and Gunners Mommy went to a music show, so Gunner and Bea got to spend the whole evening together. We played and then slept for a while. Finally Mommy came home, and now we are getting ready for bed. Bea loves it when we have days like this. Bea hopes we go on a long walk again, though if Mommy asks, it's called a hike. Silly Mommy.
Love,
Bea

Bea really enjoyed her hike to Zapata Falls today! This was the first time she used her Ruffwear pack and it was awesome. Not only did the pack come in handy for carrying water and stuff, but she got many compliments. Bea also found out that she loves climbing rocks!

Moments. Small fractions of seconds that have irreversible consequences. For Beatrix, it was the day she was thrown out on the streets. From her very birth the world had it out for her. Beatrix was most likely born on accident, as many puppies are. Her father, a distant mirage that did not even know of her existence. Such is the life of a street dog. Beatrix was most likely born into a house that was completely unprepared for her and her litter mates. Six weeks later, Beatrix was thrown out on the streets. Survival of the fittest was the name of the game.
Little is known of Beatrix's life before. We know that she lived on the streets, struggling to find food, running from danger, and desperately looking for something--though even she was unclear of what that was. Beatrix was lucky though. Beatrix was and is inherently great with children. And that is where the next chapter of her life began. A kind woman was dropping her son off for preschool, and she noticed a small dog, not even a six months old, greeting the children as they got off of the school bus. For the next several weeks, this dog would appear, every single morning, to greet the children. She would gently lick their hands, feet, little legs and arms, until they were beckoned inside. Then she would slowly make her way from the middle, carrying her small, emaciated frame towards whatever that day would bring her. Finally, that woman decided she couldn't watch this dog suffer anymore. So, Beatrix found her second home.
It turns out that little Beatrix was an extremely curious dog. She now lived on a farm with; cows, chickens, horses, other dogs, and even tractors. She simply could not stay away from all of these interesting thing! The woman with the little boy could see that Beatrix was eventually going to get into trouble. Possibly even hurt. It was time to find Beatrix a new home. The woman contacted the local doggy day care and asked them to post a picture of the little brown dog. And that's when Beatrix found her forever home. A girl, 16, had been begging her parents to allow her to find a new dog. Her dog, Olive, having died the year before. She had tried everything to get them to agree. She begged, she wrote letters, she wrote lists, she dropped subtle hints, she dropped not so subtle hints. Finally, they relented. They agreed to look at this little brown dog. The rest they say is history. On the ride to her forever home, Beatrix sat on the girls lap. She stared out the window and watched as they pulled up in front a new home.
Beatrix is approximately 22 pounds. She is brown. She has a long tail that curls up into her back. Her body is long, but her legs are proportionally too short. The DNA tests revealed many different breeds, but the most prominent being Chow-Chow, Pom, and Bassett Hound. Try to imagine that. Beatrix's namesake comes from two places. The first, Bellatrix from Harry Potter. The girl who adopted Beatrix felt that she had just enough weird about her to warrant an interesting name. As the girls mom says, her dog is "cute, with just a pinch of funky." But she also wanted to give her a sophisticated name so she gave her Beatrice, from Beatrice Potter. The girl decided to combine them. Thus, Beatrix Flat was born, the flat being a joke about the girls love for music. But mostly, her family just calls her Bea. And this is her life.
