oh by the way yāall, taylorās ultimate goal here is to create something as close to a replica as she can of her discography for the rerecording. itās supposed to sound identical to the original versions. sheās not here to create alternative versions of each song or spice it up - for the purposes of this project and for the purposes of her artistic journey to finally owning her masters (which she shouldāve been able to have from the beginning, but thatās another conversation), sheās making replicas. yes, we discuss her doing songs that were on the deluxe or platinum versions or touching on unreleased songs because she said sheās got a lot of surprises, but donāt attack her because they sound similar to the originals. thatās the whole point. thatās how sheās getting her masters back, and we need to support that.

Speak Now Photoshoot
I know we talk about this endlessly, but Taylorās raw talent is scary. The fact that she wrote the lyrics and melody to cardigan in a matter of hours and it sounds pretty much exactly the same as the final take, which is universally agreed-upon to be a great song, is SCARY⦠Itās beyond talent. Itās a calling.
the best thing about not being a teenager anymore is not really caring what other people think about you and your hobbies and appearance. idgaf if anyone thinks Iām uncool or cringeļæ¼ or basic or whatever, Iām just vibing
man i hate the egoism in my anxiety. do i really think my presence is so important that itās the focal point of everyoneās judgment? do i really see myself as someone that should be capable of getting everything right, all the time? sometimes i just want to scream at my brain that it doesnāt matter. iām moving through the world like everyone else. it doesnāt fucking matter
peace, taylor swift
Taylor really wrote an entire album in 3 months and didnāt tell her label till she was about to release it and all I can think about is how Scott forced her to change the name of the Speak Now album from Enchanted to Speak Now and forced her into changing Red from itās orginal direction so that it would have more singles to sell instead of the album being cohesive. Taylor Swift has ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS but she could never show it becuase of Scott and Big Machine. I wonāt stop saying how happy I am that she is free to be her complete self!Ā
folklore
taylor said hello would you like to do some actual meaningful analysis and embrace metaphors and allusions and Fiction instead of combing my social media for clues? and sheās so valid for that....... the power of taylor swift is the deftness with which she weaves fictionalized narratives in with her own life so that sheās constantly telling multiple stories at once and everything is simultaneously deeply about her heart and yet also itās own tale... i think people are finally seeing that Taylor Swift the figure is just as much a Character as a betty or a james but that doesnāt mean sheās not also telling us the closest thing to her truth that she can articulate... its folklore and myth and narrative and pieces of her all wrapped up in one package... sheās always done that to a certain extent but albums like rep. and lover were sooooo deeply performative in the service of a self-making mythos while this is a quiet web of stories that both reveal and obscure, and she doesnāt care what it says about Taylor Swift the mega superstar, but rather about what it says about taylor swift the woman. ugh!
No pop songs at all. Itās as far beyond Lover as Lover was beyond Reputation. Sheās always relished her dramatic creative zigzags, but this is easily her most audacious move, full of story-telling depth sheās never come close to before. Some of us have spent years dreaming Taylor would do a whole album like this, but nobody really dreamed it would turn out this great. Her greatest album ā so far.
- Rob Sheffield - Rolling Stone - Taylor Swift Leaves Her Comfort Zones Behind on the Head-Spinning, Heartbreaking āFolkloreā - 4.5/5
Folklore (2020). Taylor Swift Stars drawn around scars. A cardigan that still bears the scent of loss 20 years later. Battleships sinking into the ocean, down, down, down. The tree swing in the woods of my childhood. Hushed tones of āletās run awayā and never doing it. The sun drenched month of August, sipped away like a bottle of wine. A mirrored disco ball hovering above a dance floor. A whiskey bottle beckoning. Hands held through plastic. A single thread that, for better or for worse, ties you to fate.
Three songs in.
Calling it now, Folklore is my new favorite Taylor Swift album.
CHILLS
āFolklore is wistful and full of escapism. Sad, beautiful, tragic. Like a photo album full of imagery, and all the stories behind that imagery.ā -Taylor via YouTube chat
Taylor Swift is really giving us Christmas in July, huh?
