first and foremost, mona is a girls girl. she is your best friend, your sister and she will be first in line to sacrifice herself for you, and she'll do it out of love. everything she does is in the name of love, whether the concept itself or for the people she loves. she's very much the embodiment of finding strength in tenderness, of love as not only romantic but also platonic and as an act of selflessness. a lot of my inspiration for her comes from julie harris' aphrodite (which is fitting, considering venus is her roman counterpart), particularly the line "unlike other olympians, (she) is never distracted from her duties. her work is her pleasure, her hobby. she thinks of nothing but love, and nobody expects more of her." mona knows who she is supposed to be and has fully embraced it. at least for the time being.

was living in london before waking up in evermore and that is where she consolidated her 'sailor v' persona and built her reputation. half of the authorities loved her, the other half hated her and the bad guys hated her even more, though it's mainly because she was actually doing a better job than the people in charge. it was truly her vigilante sh*t era.

talks a lot most of the time. like, seriously, but i think it's because she's been alone for most of her life (at least until artemis showed up) and now that she knows her purpose, she wants to get out there and find the other senshi.

when mona was thirteen, the boy she had a crush on told her she should wear a big red ribbon on her hair, because it'd look perfect on her. she's been wearing her hair like that ever since.

like the other senshi and their planets, she is basically the personification of venus / the goddess associated with it. and because venus' composition is said to be similar to the earth's, she feels even more responsible both for protecting not just the moon and their princess but also the earth.

on a similar note, she will absolutely take advantage of her title to give relationship advice and play matchmaker. girly is a big romantic despite having been cursed to never find love.

kinda didn't want to be a champion of justice at first because it's not like she's getting paid for it. rip

feels the biggest amount of guilt for what happened in their previous incarnation, which is also one of the reasons why she is so devoted to her duty as a sailor guardian. she *needs* to make things right this time around.

keeping with tradition, she hasn’t really revealed herself as the host of the v podcast either. i think girly is too comfortable keeping it private for now, especially since she hasn't found the other senshi yet.

has a big, big rose quartz collection. very much lives by the notion that one can never have too much rose quartz! if you’re feeling sad, she’ll do her best to cheer you up with your favorite meal, movie/show and a pretty rose quartz, probably carved ♡  she also loves pearls and pearl jewelry!

as the guardian of beauty, more specifically things that are universally pleasing to the eye, mona is Huge on beautifully decorated spaces and just aesthetics in general. she also has a knack for collecting those dainty teacups with delicate drawings on them! that being said, she’s also a major advocate of finding beauty in Everything, even in difficult situations. beauty is about the essence, not the vessel!

she's been doing the whole sailor guardian thing for a while now, a little over a year, and she's been doing it on her own (with the exception of artemis, her guardian/cat). these past few years have also been her loneliest.

i think. mona has never taken the time to grieve the loss of the girl she was before becoming sailor v, and it got even worse after she remembered her past as venus. she simply doesn’t have the time to think about the life she could have had, she has a duty and that is more important than anything she could’ve become … or so she tells herself.

as i mentioned before, mona is doomed to never find love, having been sort of cursed by one of her planet's own soldiers. she’ll always put something/someone else before it, mainly the moon princess, the other senshi and her duty.

HOWEVER, that doesn’t stop her from crushing on people regularly and having the occasional hook up. she really is a romantic little baby and will take what she can get, even if it’s not real real love. what a bittersweet girlie. oh, and she doesn’t believe in heterosexuality sorry ♡

while mona had always enjoyed visiting the museum , those visits became more frequent within the past month . she'd always to do the same thing : wander around the building for a couple of hours , then come back to the same painting only to sit before it like a lost child , waiting . not even mona herself was sure of what she was waiting for , maybe a sign or some kind of guidance . anything . usually anything associated with venus brought comfort to her heart and a great big smile to the senshi's lips , but now it was all disappointment . the only thing she felt was grief , and a deep sense of regret . she failed . again , and now rei was missing along with half the town . ❛ maybe i'm not good at this stuff anymore , ❜ the girl mused quietly , clutching the orange transformation pen in her hands . how was she supposed to help protect the earth when she couldn't even protect her friend , or evermore ? rubbing her eyes briefly , mona set the pen beside her on the bench . maybe someone else would find it and make better use of the item ; it was a perfectly functioning pen after all . or maybe artemis would find them and pass the job on , either or . just as she was starting to step away from her spot , mona caught herself almost bumping into someone , which prompted her to make a squeak - like sound and stumble back . ❛ aah ! thought you were a moving statue for a second there ! oof , ❜ an awkward laugh . mona liked to thing she was good with improvisation , but she really wasn't . ❛ sorry 'bout that ... ❜

❛ do you think it's possible that someone might buy a little too much chocolate ? ❜ there's mild embarrassment coating her words , as it is obvious that mona is actually talking about herself given the big shopping bag in her hands , almost full to the brim with all different sorts of chocolate bars , easter eggs , mini chocolate bunnies and whatnot . maybe this was her way of feeling better after a long night , or perhaps she lacked the self - control to not overspend during the ultimate chocolate season . they just had wrap it all up in the cutest packaging , it was always the packaging ! ❛ probably can't return any of this either ... uh , can i interest you in some free chocolate ? it'll take a whole year for my roommate and i to finish this . ❜

❛ i suppose you could say it's something like that. i was raised to appreciate beauty in all ways it shows itself... ❜ perhaps a bit of a pretentious answer but it was no less than honest. his mother always raised him to find the beauty and the mystique in all things life offered; challenges, adventures, skills, art, music, fear... disappointment. toulouse's mother was the epitome of the word beautiful, and it was no wonder his sister took after her, and so he was thankful to have the two of them to keep him in line with reminders of the literal, and metaphorical, representations of beauty and bringing him back to his roots when he started to find ugliness in every corner, especially the ones in his own house. his eyes drifted again, looking at everything — anything — but mona. not because he didn't want to, but because he believed that he shouldn't. now that she was encapsulated in paint form, it made her all that more delicate. anything he thought, or did, or said to mona all hung in the air like a worn tapestry. one wrong move, one pull of the wrong thread, and everything would unravel. toulouse couldn't handle anymore unraveling threads.

then, she said his name, and he blinked himself back into the moment, further drawn into it when her hand found his face. a chill slithered down his spine, reminding him of the very first serpent that had ever challenged purity, remembering how it won. he resisted her eyes despite the turning of his face, but her words brought toulouse's gaze right back to hers. his tongue swept along his lower lip, and for a moment, he was tempted to give into the hiss that sounded in his ears and bow his head to kiss her. tempted to tarnish yet another beautiful thing life had introduced him to with his selfish, needy, pathetic lack of self-control. lack of any control at all. ❛ sorry, ❜ toulouse breathed, attempting to calm his nerves, to control himself; ❛ — just trying to be respectful. ❜

her touch seemed to linger, even as her hand was drawn away, and he chuckled as he gestured towards the room they were going to be walking into. ❛ mine rooms, to the left, ❜ he informed her, trying to come down from the temporary high the last moment had brought him to, following the blonde into his bedroom and clearing his throat as he sat on the edge of his bed. ❛ uh, the second drawer is shirts, third drawer is sweats and comfy pants. take whatever you want, ❜ he offered, folding his fingers together, thumbs twirling around one another as he watched her intently.

' sorry ' . there it was again , an apology for something there was no need to feel sorry for . rather than being annoyed by it or simply dismissing the sentiment , mona offered a small yet earnest smile , the kind you might give someone as a means of encouragement . of letting them know you understand them , and that it's okay . ❛ you are , ❜ the blonde insisted , her tone equally as quiet as his own . mona was certain she knew a thing or two about guys , good and bad and while she didn't always get it right the first time ( actually , she seldom did ) , she was willing to bet the magellan castle itself that toulouse wasn't a bad guy . he meant well , which was more than most . in order to fight for love and beauty , one must learn to see beyond people's shortcomings and appreciate them for what they are . the exceptions were few and definitely reserved for the sailor guardians to deal with , not mona .

as she set foot into his room , her doe eyes wandered like a curious child at a themed park , curious about every nook and cranny . there was something about peeking into one's safe haven that was just fascinating to mona . a person's own sanctuary . nodding her head , mona made her way towards the appointed drawers and allowed herself a moment to choose between the offerings . ❛ whatever i want , so you won't really mind if i take some of these home ? ❜ she teased , fingertips taking their time to feel the different fabrics before committing to a long sleeved button up not too different from the one toulouse had on himself , and a pair of pants that she hoped wouldn't look too comically large on her or worse , make her trip and fall face first on the floor . how graceful ! ❛ okay , i'll be right back ! don't do anything fun without me ! ❜ and so , amidst her own laughter , mona disappeared into the bathroom , closing the door behind her .

after a few minutes , once she'd made sure there was no stickiness to her hair and body , mona emerged from the foggy room , shirt left with the first two buttons open and loosely tucked into the pair of comfy pants , delicate fingers worked their way through long locks of blonde hair . venus rising from metaphorical sea foam . ❛ i tried to leave everything just the way i found it ... you were right , lots of pretty - smelling things . ❜ a chuckle , cheeks flushing red though mona wasn't sure whether because of the hot water or the fact that she was wearing his clothes . speaking of which , ❛ wait , just a sec ! ❜ the venusian princess briefly went into the bathroom once more to grab her wine - stained dress before coming out once again . finally , she lifted her gaze towards toulouse , a nervous and expectant sparkle in her eyes , ❛ so ... how do i look ? ❜

it was frightening, and relieving, at the same time to know that mona and herself were in this together. the memories were still hazy, what had lead to the destruction of the senshi and the moon princess still uncertain to the brunette, but the important thing was she had found someone who understood. mona was minseo's everything, it was no wonder she had been brought right back by her side when she woke up in evermore... why she had this draw to the blonde that she couldn't quite understand. was the same to be said for the other people she had met whilst being in evermore ?? who was to say that other people she knew, or thought she knew, weren't too lost sailors scouts searching for answers such as herself ?? minseo could see the flashes of emotion glimmering in the other's eye, the uncertainty of it all, the realization of the two of them remembering what pieces they had of the past and putting them together to form just a small fraction of the puzzle. when mona lept forward to engulf the other in a hug, minseo squeezed as tight as she could around the other's middle, burying her face in her shoulder, the tears that had brimmed her eyes abandoning their posts as they slipped down cheeks.

❛ oh mona, ❜ minseo whimpered, relief and despair twirling around one another and lacing through her words like a fraying ribbon. her breaths shuddered, lungs starved for breath, the pulsing ache in her temples beginning to subside as the memories her mind, her planet, had been trying to show her began to make sense. mona — sailor venus. her best friend in this lifetime and the last... they had been brought back, brought HERE, for a purpose that was greater than themselves. minseo hardly understood it, but she felt it in her bones that this wasn't the first time they had been in a position like this. the sailor scouts would find each other again, as they had in the past, and as they will in the future. ❛ i'm so sorry it took me so long to remember... i can't believe you were the one in my visions this entire time !! ❜ drawing back, minseo pressed her forehead against the others, fingers digging into the fabric of mona's shirt, tears relentlessly cascading down the curves of her face. ❛ neither of us are alone anymore...❜ she muttered gently, feeling a sense of calm wash over her, knowing she had someone to talk to about everything she had been discovering, remembering, working on... ❛ do you... do you think they're here, too ?? do you think she's here ?? ❜ minseo inquired delicately, eyes fluttering open as she only leaned away enough from the embrace to see mona's face. ❛ i think there's more of us here, mona... i can feel it. ❜

although mona liked to tell herself she had lots of people who were thinking of her , like her podcast audience or sailor v's admirers , it was clear that deep down , way deep in her heart , the girl had known from the moment artemis showed up on her window that she was actually alone . painfully , entirely alone until the other sailor guardians were found . it might've sounded exciting at first , something akin to a treasure hunt where instead of gold , the reward would come in the shape of friends . dear friends and a chance to try again , make things right . but after the first few months , after a whole year and so on , after countless bruises and betrayal , all excitement mona felt , that hope she had so desperately been clinging to for a long time now began to flicker , threatening to disappear . thank venus that wasn't the case anymore , nor would it be ever again . a small sob escaped her and she pulled the other girl a bit tighter , afraid minseo would disappear . she didn't want to be alone again , nor did she want her best friend to . ❛ it's okay , it's not your fault . i've been doing this for a while and there's so much i don't know , ❜ a chuckle , though the sound made it obvious that mona thought herself pathetic for not having all the answers . she should know better .

upon being asked if she thought the others were also in evermore , mona pressed her lips together before nodding a bit , just enough to get her opinion across without pulling back from minseo . ❛ i think so , too . i - i actually think i've found one ... she doesn't feel like the princess to me , ❜ definitely another sailor guardian , but not their dear princess . taking a deep breath , she felt as though she was breathing for the first time in ages . a weight had been lifted off mona's shoulders , giving room to a different one and yet , there was relief in it . ❛ her name is rei . she's ... she's beautiful , and i get this weird feeling every time i run into her . like burning your feet while walking on sand , ❜ the blonde shuddered , brows furrowing together just a bit . ❛ but it's not a bad feeling . artemis and i are investigating- oh , right . i don't know how to tell you this but uh , ❜ embarrassment coats her features , a grimace on her lips . ❛ artemis isn't a cat . like , he is , but not a cat - cat . he's a space cat ! ❜

riley sucked on the pad of her thumb, drawing the calloused skin between her teeth and gnawing on it as she stared at jimmy. she had appreciated mona's... lack of questioning. sure, riley said there was an explanation but she had never gone further than that. sometimes she dreamed of things and they... came to life. sometimes she could control it, will things to appear and... other times, if they showed up in their dreams, they were showing up in the world around her the next day whether she liked it or not. riley had zoned out, vision blurring as she looked off past jimmy at nothing in particular, hardly able to make sense of what mona was saying or asking.

valentines day then game up, and riley frowned instinctively. ❛ nothing, ❜ she had replied, perhaps a bit sharper than mona deserved, bad pedaling immediately by apologizing under their breath. they did NOT want to talk about love or the day of it or of relationships or dating. the blonde sunk down, sliding off the back of the couch so they plopped down onto one of the cushions properly, wrapping their arms around their knees. glancing at mona and then the cowplant, riley sighed, resting their chin atop their knees; ❛ yeah, ❜ they replied, an unreadable emotion flashing across their face; ❛ — since i was a kid. i uh, i can control it sometimes but... other times, ❜ riley gestured to the creature, frowning. ❛ — well, other times i can't. ❜

though the sharp tone of riley's answer didn't go unnoticed by mona , she also didn't question it . not everyone was half as into valentines day as she was , let alone the subject of love . if riley didn't want to talk about it , they wouldn't ; but mona would definitely make sure to buy a few extra chocolates and roses for her dear roommate . a friend could be a valentine , too ! she kept close attention as the other sunk into the couch . the fact that riley's expression was so unreadable made her all the more worried .

❛ oh ... so jimmy was one of those times , ❜ the senshi mused , as if the wheels were turning in her mind . believe it or not , everything seemed to make a little more sense now that she knew of riley's quirk . mona thought it was fascinating . ❛ it's a beautiful gift you know . i mean , you brought jimmy to life ! not just anyone can do that , ❜ pausing , mona could feel the corner of her lips curling into a half smile . ❛ why didn't you tell me ? i'm not mad or anything , you know . it's just that if i'd known your secret , i would've told you mine . ❜

jack had ostensibly come to the library for personal research purposes. considering the personal problem they were researching was their own powers, the 'research' was mostly just flipping through comics and frowning thoughtfully. and gradually shifting in their comfy chair until they were upside down, legs dangling over the back of the chair and head hanging off the seat. "what makes a good superhero name, d'you think?" they asked idly as they noticed someone approach out of the corner of their eye. they flipped to the next page. "it probably helps if you've got a really specific power set, right? i think the more you've got going on, the more abstract you need to get with it."

while mona was pretty sure there was some sort of general etiquette that people were meant to follow when visiting a library , the sight of jack completely ignoring them for what she assumed was comfort's sake made the sailor senshi smile . she wouldn't have expected anything different from them . that being said , the question took her off guard ; what did sailor venus think made a good superhero name ? ❛ hmm ... something simple that conveys who they without needing some big explanation . ❜ she answered while taking the empty seat by her friend , a copy of ovid's metamorphoses in her delicate hands . ❛ in that case , maybe something to do with change ? with a nice ring to it though . people wouldn't want their fate to be in the hands of , i don't know , the unstableman . ❜

❛ yeah, unfortunately oil paint takes quite a long time to dry... ❜ he informed her with a shrug of his shoulder, reaching behind him to mindlessly swirl the brush currently in his mason jar of water, the stem of it's handle clinking against the sides of the glass. he looked up at the painting, tilting his head at it, already beginning to criticize the parts of it he couldn't stand which made his eyes squint. mona's comment about pierre brought him back to the present, looking up at her than past him to the orange cat currently knocked out atop his tower. pouting at the creature, toulouse couldn't help himself from smiling at just how peaceful the menace looked when he was asleep. ❛ he's an orange cat, he's anything but behaved, but he is a good boy... for the most part, ❜ the brunette joked, waving a dismissive hand, looking at the cat in mona's arms and just now noticing the crescent shape in his fur. tempted to question, but opting not to, toulouse pressed his lips together and watched with amusement as the creature hopped from her arms and onto the floor, chuckling breathily as he sank into the stool. the wine was ripe on his cheeks now, he could feel it behind his eyes, and the man was shocked that he could even get a buzz from wine anymore due to how he consumed it as often as he breathed. or maybe it was mona's presence amplifying it's effects — who knew.
