nope! they don't allow exhibitors to table more than two years in a row (which i like, because new artists get a chance) but even if they allowed it tbh con prep is simply too busy and stressful and i don't like making plastic crap to sell. i will be attending one of the days though, likely as a table helper for a friend, but if not i'll be at some after parties

awww thank u! i don't really know what makes something beautiful... ive defined it many times in my life and tried to compartmentalize it but beauty is just something you feel in the heart, im not sure. i guess i like nice soft colors and natural things and flowy lines and curves and i always prefer things that are intimate to "cool" actiony stuff

lowkey by just limiting my color palette for convenience i almost exclusively use shades of beige and peach with pops of blue cuz im actually so bad with color hahah

forgive me if you’ve been asked before, but what brushes do you use?

i mainly use a variety of kyle t webster brushes but a lot of my recent work has been a mix of traditional sketch and digital paint/retouch. a lot of the stuffed animald i posted were full traditional though, except the digital color on the paddington

How long did it take for you to develop your art style, ie hit a comfortable balance between semi-realism and cartoony? I've been finding it pretty hard to break out of realistic proportions, which in turn are a pain in the ass to try and animate 💀

i was just talking 2 a friend about this earlier yesterday :) i think you simply cannot force an art style.. you have to do what feels natural to you, and when its time to make a concious decision you will feel it, but you cannot seek it. ive met many people who Try to have a style, and usually it just results in stiff replications of another artist or two. i suggest just drawing a lot, from observation, take your sketchbook outside into the world and draw. do master studies but not too many, when you find yourself stuck, turn to your heroes and see how they did it, and try it for yourself, and watch as it transforms and blends into your style with time. style also changes a lot with taste, so its good to keep yourself maleable by not thinking of having an art style at all. when you’re a bit more confident in your skills and tastes, you’ll see things other artists do that you’d like to try too, and you’ll be able to truly eat it and digest it and benefit from its nutrients, shitting it out what is of no use to you, instead of regurgitating it.

with animation specifically, for going from realism to something simpler, you could just experiment with stylization a lot. line economy is key, how many lines can you reduce to One line? how can you create appeal with fewer shapes? just play around. but think “how can i make this design simpler” not “how can i change my style”
