your art is incredible!!! i’m obsessed with all your hammeranvil posting, thank you for blessing this fandom!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH <3 I really appreciate it!
In the fem!Maekar situation, I've thought about it and I could easily see her marrying a Sword of the Morning. And they'd probs leave to Dorne, since they'd go to his home rather than get to remain in KL, I Could see Mae getting to learn arms as a bonding activity with the husband that, while she didn't choose, comes to love as much as Maekar loved Dyanna- after all, it's Dorne, she wouldn't stand out much by learning mace with her husband's blessing. This is all to say the positions May be reversed in the Hammer and the Anvil, with Mae and the Dornish host led by the Daynes and other houses, and Baelor getting to witness their arrival while holding the shield wall. Plus his little sister he hasn't seen in years because wtf you mean she's leading a charge and swinging a mace like crazy, which noone warned him would happen. I really like exploring how more warlike traits would transfer to genderbends without seeming too out of the norm. For Mae, leaving to Dorne at, what? 14? Yeah that works. I bet her husband would be as crazy as she is and enjoy it, I mean, if she disliked him enough she could drink moon tea and stop popping out kids cuz she sure as heck ain't the mom of the year.
That’s an interesting concept! I like the idea a lot. It’s true that if Mae stayed in Dorne, she’d probably be more likely allowed to train with a sword and even a mace. I’m still not sure she’d actually be allowed on the battlefield, but honestly, who knows.
Young Baelor and Maekar on Vermithor (with Silverwing in the background)
In the Fem!Maekar au, were Baelor and Maerys married when they were young, or were they married to their original spouses before they died? I see the latter as a more nuanced and interesting option...
Like, Maerys had feelings for Baelor in their youth. Her eldest brother who treated her well and knew exactly who she really was. Taught her the sword, perhaps they still fought together at the Redgrass. Her feelings weren't not requited...
But he married Jenna Dondarrion for politics instead. And they ended up having a pleasant marriage and two sons, while Maerys watched from the outside.
Then Maerys married a Dayne. A Dornish knight that reminded her of Baelor in some ways, was lacking in others, yet they still had six children before he died. Six kids that she loves but doesn't know how to mother.
Both Maerys and Baelor are widowed in their 40s. They reunite and marry, it's not the most politically advantageous match, but it's the one thing Baelor will allow himself to have over the good of the realm. Baelor takes in her children and raises them like the good father he is to his own sons. Gentle, stern, instructive, affectionate.
Maerys wants to be the same for his sons, but she can't fill Jenna's shoes. Jenna's sons are much better mannered and adjusted than her own. She's jealous, feels inadequate, even when Baelor coos his love for her. She wishes she were not so old, that she could still bear Baelor a child or six, but it doesn't happen.
She thinks of Visenya, the warlike sisterwife to the conqueror, and how she long survived her siblings. She built the Kingdom, yet her line went out. If she married her brother for duty, or if she truly loved him while he loved another more. If she loved her monstrous son and the monstrous things she did for him... And Baelor will tell her to come to bed and stop thinking of it all.
I think them marrying for alliances is the more realistic option. Though I could also see the king allowing Baelor to marry Maerys, hoping their children and Baelor’s eventual heir might take after the more typical Targaryen look rather than his Dornish features. I honestly don’t know how much Daeron even cared about this.
I really like your point about Maerys potentially feeling inadequate compared to Jena, and maybe even figures like Visenya as well. Maerys is no warlike, dragonriding sister-wife of the Conqueror, she probably wouldn’t even be allowed to fight alongside Baelor at the Redgrass field. This generation of Targaryens seems much more focused on appearance and public image, so she’d likely be pushed into behaving more like what’s expected of a noblewoman.
fem!baelor and fem!maekar in an au where all daeron ii's kids were female? rhaegal becomes rhaega and aenys becomes aenyra. daeron having no sons would be another reason the blackfyres rebel.
all the extra politicking baela would have to do to keep herself heir...fascinating to think about.
This is such a fascinating au to think about tbh. Making all of Daeron’s children daughters would seriously reshape the succession politics, and probably make the blackfyre rebellion even more volatile, if anything, it might put Daeron in a weaker position rather than a stronger one.
Everywhere I go I see them
I genuinely appreciate that your genderbends still look like their actors and like their characters. My favorite aspects of genderbends and gender fluidity in fandom is how one face/body can translate to another. If a very unique man becomes a generic woman, what's the point?
Thank you! I try my best. Personally, I think capturing people’s likeness is one of my favorite things about drawing. And yeah, very true, people should take a character’s personality and appearance into consideration when doing genderbending.
Do you live in Prague?

Hi!
I see your cooking with Fem!Maekar is simply delicious❤️
Anyway, you can ignore this question if you're uncomfortable, but getting into the genderbend topic, if we have fem!Maekar, what about fem!Baelor?👀
Of course, I don't think this option is all that interesting, but when I thought about it, I immediately thought of Margaery Tyrell)))
But seriously, the eldest daughter is intelligent, beautiful, and has an impeccable reputation among both the nobility and the smallfolk - a perfect daughter in medieval terms.
I think she would also have had plenty of marriage proposals and suitors (and I imagine Maekar might have been terribly jealous of her because of this), leaving Daeron scratching his head trying to figure out who would be a good match for her.
Hi!
Oh, I’m so glad someone asked me about fem!Baelor, I’ve actually been thinking about it today. And yes, fem!Baelor (Baela?) would absolutely be the perfect daughter (though no longer an heir). Beautiful, noble, kind, and smart, still distrusted by some people for her Dornish features, but less so because she’s “just a woman” and no longer an heir to the Iron Throne. She’d still feel a deep connection to her youngest brother and be protective of him, just as he would be of her.
I imagine she’d marry someone important for alliances, because she understands how much that matters. And maybe, after both she and Maekar lose their spouses, they’d be able to marry? Perhaps Aerys would allow it once he ascends the throne.
I don't usually care for the short-tempered grumpy one/the patient cheerful one dynamic. But your femMaekar/Baelor thing really works for me. And I think it's because the woman so rarely gets to be the grumpy one. I'm very much here for the man doing the emotional labour of the relationship. Yes Baelor, find the grouchy lady charmingly endearing instead of telling her she'd be prettier if she only smiled more.
Yes! You basically summed up exactly what makes fem!Maekar work for me. It only really works if she has all of Maekar’s personality. I picture her as plain looking, opinionated, prone to swearing, not exactly a great mother, someone who struggles to connect with her children and rarely smiles. Tomboyish but not in the carefree way, more like someone who’s constantly raging at the world for the hand she’s been dealt.
