The Fiddler story in the ROOTS REBOOT series was one of loyalty, and IDENTITY. One of assimilating into a world he thought had embraced him. At first glance you meet someone loyal to the Mistress, wearing the costume she dressed him in, somewhat silly for a slave. She gave him things no other slave had. That made him feel special. And because he made lots of money for the Plantation by being "hired out" he WAS "special" Then he meets Kunta Kinte. Who is the pillar of pride in his ancestry. Who refuses to let the Mistress rename him Toby after a horse. Kunta asks Fiddler, "What is your real name? And Fiddler tells him his real name is George. Kunta reawakens the truth in Fiddler. Then Fiddler helps him escape. As a result, of this friendship the Mistress sells him right off. This becomes an awakening for Fiddler. He owns only the clothing given to him. And after being a loyal Fiddler playing for them at the parties, he sees he in not a part of their family. He finally sees it for what it is,...slavery.
