Sebastian waited a moment, deciding on just how much information he was willing to share with Bella. It wasn’t that he had anything in particular to hide, but the act of bonding with another vampire wasn’t something he was used to. “She and I were never that close.” The older vampire settled on. After all he’d been turned out of pure necessity on his Sire’s part. “So no, not even my sire.”
The vampire opened his mouth to speak but instead let out a short laugh. Their misunderstanding had caught him off guard. He hadn’t drawn any of those conclusions though in hindsight he could understand. “You are a beautiful woman, Bella. To say otherwise would be a lie. But I apologize, that wasn’t the impression I was trying to make.” The vampire said, trying his best at sincerity. He wasn’t used to situations like this. “I’ll take the compliment however.”
Sebastian listened to her, nodding slightly as she spoke. For someone so young, she did raise quite a few points he hadn’t really thought of before. There were benefits to feeding off vampires, reciprocating, however, was another story. Sebastian couldn’t run the risk of any bodily damage. Even if it didn’t bother him anything that could potentially harm Jenna had to be avoided. They were bound, whether he liked it or not. “Well, I’m not opposed to it. It’s just very complicated.”
“Probably best,” she said of his lack of closeness with his sire. The only sire she knew was her own and he’d been a dick, easy to assume that most were, especially if she rarely heard them discussed.
As for being beautiful she rolled her eyes with a soft chuckle, she knew she was beautiful, but from his phrasing it was a compliment designed to soften a blow. It didn’t really matter, Bella just wanted to have fun, and if he wasn’t interested in any options she’d offered for fun then she most definitely was better off going with some of the options he’d laid out for her and wasn’t sure why he kept teetering on this border of agreeing and not agreeing for her to feed. “It’s really fine,” she said once more.
“Complicated seems like literally this entire conversation with you, Sebastian,” she finally said, knowing it would likely come across meaner than her rudeness had been because it wasn’t coming from a youth and playful place but from someone who was on a totally different wave length. “But worse than complicated, you’re just holding your cards way too close to your chest. I get you’re obviously trying to be nice, because I’ve pushed you and because you don’t want me to hunt, but secrets aren’t useful or good for you, they’re the complete opposite. They’re boring and potentially far more dangerous than just being real with someone, so whatever is making you opposed to it, have fun with that, but I’m not going to keep begging you to tell me.”
The one Bella found the most attractive of the men she finally waved to, and then another for good measure. “Thanks for getting me a meal, you really do seem like a decent older vampire,” she said, a little more softly than her judgements had potentially come across. “Maybe things will change for you and you’ll be more willing to show your fangs and say who you are, but for now, I’m going to terrify some boys and potentially destroy their lives. I’ll make sure to take care of my mess.”
