hi! thanks for the question! characters will need a tumblr blog to participate as most of the writing will take place on tumblr for verse documentation, there will be a discord chat but no major events will take place in it. also, all verse updates will come from this blog.
WELCOME TO THE MT. SUNAPEE HOTEL - a beautiful hotel located in the northeast united states, more specifically in the quiet and scenic new hampshire. on site there are bars and restaurants, three separate pools, a spa, even entertainers come to perform. in part of a publicity stunt, the man in charge created a contest in which sixteen lucky winners would receive a free weeks stay in the hotel, all inclusive. however, when they arrive and pick up the keys to their rooms left alone on the front desk, each labelled with their name and the name of another ( sharing a room with a stranger had NOT been mentioned on the contest page, to their dismay ) they were surprised to find that there was hardly any staff on the at the hotel and that none of the phone lines worked, the internet was down, even their cells couldn’t get reception. but it couldn’t be that bad, staff should be arriving soon, everything should turn out fine. or would it?

except for ordinance number four. this is the ordinance that sparked outrage, but was passed anyway. the arranged marriage law. in order to get populations back up, the names of young men and women over the age of twenty are thrown into a lottery. they’re matched with a member of the opposite sex, given a brand new home in a new neighborhood with other newlywed couples. it’s expected that they will have a child within the first two years of their marriage. if no child is conceived, they must begin fertility treatments. if one of them is unable to reproduce, their partner will be rematched while the infertile person is given a job in government.
if after five years of marriage and at least two children, if the couple wants to split, they are allowed to. men’s names are put back into the lottery ( this sometimes causes young women to be paired with men much older then themselves ) while women are encouraged to raise their children and get a job in which they can contribute to society.
the council of nations watches each couple carefully, despite the general dislike of the law - it is necessary. if another sickness were to sweep the earth, the entire population would be wiped out. remember, if you’re unhappy - it’s only five years.

this murder is even more discreet than the last, though they choose to make it dramatic. their victim is sedated and stabbed in a private room and left to bleed out. it's gonna be a long night for whoever has to clean that up, but an even longer stay for the guests. or not, actually, with a murderer on the loose!
they dash back to their room to reflect on it, deciding who's going to be next, how they'll be killed, and--- oh, a scream! a piercing scream! it seems somebody has found the body. they hike out of the room like the rest of the guests would to investigate the source of the scream, acting as innocent as ever. upon walking in they see the familiar scene: dean, dead and sprawled out in a pool of blood.

the kill is strategic, planned, and very well thought out. on the night that everyone arrives, the hotel is near empty, save for a few staff members and the lucky winners. everyone seems to be in some sort of panic with the phones, wifi, security cameras, and more being down. one person seems calmer than the rest, if not a bit excited for their upcoming escapade.
that happens early in the night, when the guests are mingling and banding together in an attempt to assuage their fears. phrases like “more staff will be here soon” and “technology is so unreliable” are passed around, though it all ceases when the bartender drops dead. no one knows what to do. no one’s a doctor but a quick pulse check lets them all know she is dead. without working phones, a forensic scientist, or a way to talk to the dead, will they be able to solve the murder?
----- the killer, of course, already knows how it was done. pure nicotine is so lethal that one drop on the tongue is enough to kill. put enough of the stuff on bottles of whiskey, and well... the more drinks she served, the more bottles she touched, the more nicotine was absorbed by the skin.... that’s how you get a dead body. now, they pretend to be shocked, and observe everyone to see their reactions.
