orch audition and the past week
So it turns out it's a lot harder to update this than I thought :S I was an Orientation Leader (or "Lieder", as we called it at the Faculty of Music) for the past week, which resulted in a very busy schedule and minimal practising. However I did end up doing a lot of organizing for the chamber and cello master classes, which is where whatever time I had left went into. I guess it could be seen as a good excuse and a bad excuse.
The audition itself went alright. I mean, i was nervous but all in all, it could have gone a lot worse. I managed to "warm-up" for 10 minutes (which was hardly any time at all; the audition was at 9:45am and after an hour commute from home, no less), giving me just enough time to work out some tricky passages before going in.
They skipped Variation G of the Britten Young Person's Guide (which I just referred to as Britten (a) during my posts) because I figured maybe it because the Prokofiev Balcony excerpt from the 1st Romeo and Juliet Suite was also slow and lyrical.
Not sure how rhythmically accurate my Brahms 1st symphony 1st movement beginning was -- it's hard to play alone, despite hearing all the parts intertwining in my head :S
By the end of it, maybe it was because I looked uneasy, but the DMA conducting student assured me it went well. I got a text from my teacher in the evening while we were sorting out the chamber groups as part of my Work Study duties and she added a "You did really well today btw".
Turns out I got placed 3rd :/ as in 2nd stand, after two Masters students. I guess I should be pleased...but I'm sure I'll get a chance to lead this year!
