he sat in his dimly-lit corner of his favorite tavern, king georgeâs grave (otherwise known simply as the grave), a stack of papers and books in front of him, as well as an inkwell, quill, and a single flickering red candle.
it had been a couple of days since he started spreading word that captain biyu was looking for a crew, and now he simply had to wait for them to file in and discuss whether they were fit for the job.
del bosque had already denied the job to a few prospectives. promise of work was scarce these days, but a job as potentially dangerous as this was not suited for just anybody. he had to make sure he vetted prospective crew members heavily, or else the fortuna would soon be right back in nassau looking for more crew to fill the vacancies, including del bosqueâs.
he did not look up as he heard somebody take the seat across from him at the makeshift desk, keeping his eyes on the register beneath his quill. âfull name and age, please.â
it was bullshit, the fact that yasmin had been demoted from her position of master gunner to a regular gunner was pure and utter bullshit. of course, she knew better than to voice her disdain; not unless she wanted to find herself out of a crew and stuck on nassau. but still, those that spent the past few years on the curse of atlantis with her wouldnât have to look hard to see her distaste. especially not when you considered the fact that one of her subordinates was offered the position instead.Â
âyasmin darzi,â she said once she sat down at del bosqueâs station, her persian accent coming out when speaking her surname. an accent that had been buried throughout the years and places sheâs travelled, but it still peeked through from time-to-time. âthirty-six.â she was no stranger to the vetting process; the fortuna wasnât her first ship and she doubted it would be her last.Â
a hand slammed down against the table, or was it a head? her fingers wrapped around her glass, shifting it slightly to the right as to save it from spilling out onto the ground as two rather rugged pirates continued to brawl within the tavern. a brow raised ever so slightly the young woman turned towards whomever stood nearest to her, â do you think theyâll ever get bored of bashing each otherâs skulls in? âÂ
yasmin turned her gaze briefly to look over at her fellow crew member before returning to the fight happening in front of them. âiâll be surprised if they stop before one is unconscious.â her eyes stayed on the brawling duo, rolling her eyes as she listened to the patrons yelling and egging them on. her focus shifted to the sailing master, leaning with her elbow against the table. âyouâre always free to try and stop them,â she said with a lightheartedness, a smile curling on her lips as she raised her own tankard for a drink.
calloused fingers thumb open the canvas bag, hand thrusting in to wrap around something. as he pulls it out, he nods at the other, gently tossing the large, bright orange for them to catch.  â eat that, â he instructs.  â itâll be good for you to have something fresh while weâre docked.â
âshouldnât we be saving these for when weâre on waters?â she asked, tossing the orange for one hand to the other but not yet peeling it. her tone wasnât disrespectful or doubtful, she recognized the authority the other held. instead, it was one more of curiosity with some indifference.

yasmin knows that she has other siblings out there, sired by her father; though she doesnât have any interest in finding them. what she doesnât know, however, is that she has a twenty-year-old sister from her mother.Â
yasmin loves having long hair but hates having it down. 99% of the time, her hair will be tied up or pinned up; even when she sleeps. the 1% for the time it is down, she will still have it pinned back to be out of her face.Â
yasmin is typically one of the last to fall asleep and one of the first to wake up. sheâs pretty restless, any small noise tends to wake her up which doesnât bode well when youâre living on a ship. a lot of that comes from her previous life in persia but also living with pirates.Â
yasmin is quite short, standing at about 5â˛3, or 160cm. she has a slim build but because of her time working as a powder monkey and later working with cannons and weaponry, her upper body strength is reflected in the muscles on her arms.
despite fidgeting when sheâs focused or nervous, yasmin gets easily annoyed by other people fidgeting.Â
â - cooking/food headcanon
yasmin cannot cook for the life of her. any attempt at cooking typically ends in disaster. though, she does try sometimes to make the foods that she grew up with.Â
â - happy headcanon
the typically reserved demeanor of yasmin tends to go away whenever she gets piss drunk. it doesnât happen often that she reaches that state but when she does, suddenly everyone is her best friend.Â
even though it has been twenty-five years, yasmin gets nightmares sometimes about seyyed finding her. Â
â - angry/violent headcanon
when yasmin is yelling at you, youâre in the clear. itâs only once yasmin has stopped yelling and speaks calmly that you know youâve deeply angered her. Â
⌠- quirks/hobbies headcanon
yasmin likes to sew. her mother taught her when she was younger and while sheâs not the best at it, she can easily mend patches in clothing.Â

yasmin was born in persia to her mother, laleh and an unknown man. growing up, her mother would tell yasmin tales about the man; of how he had sailed all around the world, seeking treasures. of how he promised to one day return and take his love and his little girl with him.Â
she had an idealistic view of his father, especially when you considered the monster that was her motherâs husband. unable to care for a little girl on her own, laleh had married a man named seyyed when yasmin was four years old. it was very clear seyyedâs opinions of his wife; he considered her to be tainted, spoiled goods. that him marrying her was for her own benefit and she would do well to keep him happy. he would anything he could to make sure she understood that.Â
before she even knew what hatred was, yasmin hated seyyed. every day, she dreamed of her father showing up to save them but every day was met with disappointment. still, she never gave up hope.Â
the older yasmin got, the worse the abuse. by the time she was eleven, there wasnât a day that passed where her mother didnât have a mark or bruise on her face. yasmin had her own markings too but seyyed made sure they were less visible.Â
one night, yasmin awake to yelling; not uncommon but it was seyyedâs voice yelling words of murder that had the young girl out of her bed. to her horror, she came upon seyyed with his hands around lalehâs throat, choking her mother to death. yasmin doesnât remember how she got the dagger nor how it embedded itself into seyyedâs back. but she does remember how difficult it was to pull it out of him and the feeling of warm blood spray on her face when seyyed was low enough for her to reach his throat.
the feeling of satisfaction from seeing seyyed crumpled on the ground was unwelcomed, it made her sick to feel so good. but that feeling was shortlived as yasmin saw the look of horror on her motherâs face, almost like she didnât recognize her own child. the last thing her mother ever said to her was to get away.Â
yasmin ran away that night and she didnât stop running until she reached the coast. leaving her home behind with the clothes on her back and the name of a man, there was only one destination left to go and that was towards her father.Â
it took well over a decade before she found him in a trading port in morocco. in that time, she earned her keep with a pirate crew in the persian gulf. she worked her way as a powder monkey, being quite expandable for her young age. but she worked her way up in the ranks, under the wings of a mentor to become a gunner. from there, she sailed through the red sea and into the gulf of suez and traveled to the coast of the mediterranian where she joined another pirate crew.Â
the day yasmin found her father was rather lackluster. having pictured this grandiose adventurer for all her life, the sight of the pitiful drunk clinging to his bottle was a hard crash to reality. there was never any treasures, or promises of adventure and safety. there was only a man that barely reacted when yasmin confronted him, his eyes couldnât even focus on her as he slurred whatever nonsense he could.
at twenty-six years of age was when yasmin realized the harshest of realities. there was no home for her; not in persia, not with her mother, and certainly not with her father. she had nowhere to stay, and so she left. she left morocco and she left the crew, making her own home on the sea.Â
PRESENT;
for the past decade, yasmin has been traveling from crew to crew, never spending too long on one ship until she came aboard the curse of atlantis. her gunning skills gave her the ranking of master gunner and she found a place there among the crew for the few years she was a part of it.Â
when biyu sought out members to make her own crew and yasmin found some of the other members of the curse of atlantis were joining, she accepted the womanâs offer.Â
the demotion from master gunner to gunner was hurtful to yasminâs pride. for nearly twenty-five years, she had been perfecting her skills with guns and cannons. so to think she passed up on master gunner wounded her ego.Â
