BIOGRAPHY

Fairytales were always something that fascinated Beyza since she was a little girl. She heard the story of how her parents met from her father saving her mother and to her, that was the best fairytale. Still, she insisted every night to be read stories of mermaids and dragons and at times, it was the only way to get the younger girl to sit still. She would always be dancing around and moving, being known to toss glitter here and there and for a straight year, all she would wear was a mermaid tale and a tiara; which was all of Kindergarten. However, that summer she was made fun of for wearing it so she stopped and switched to regular dresses and skirts, but still had the tiara and tail she wore at home.

As they aged, the kids her age forgot about her mermaid princess days, but they didn’t forget her. In fact, her fun personality and looks made her quite popular going through school. She got good at flashing her big blue eyes at boys and honestly anyone and getting what she wanted, which made her and her friends laugh. By the time she was in high school, Beyza knew how to use this power to sneak out, get someone to buy her and her friends drinks, and to get out of detention if she happened to get it. She knew her power was her innocent and sweet look, and she liked that.

Not having the pressure like her older sister, Beyza had a world of opportunities for her and it was her love of fairytales that won her over and she went to the local college for performance. She knew she wanted to be an actress of some sort and was starting to think more about maybe being a mermaid performer. During her second year there, she met an older man, but fell so quickly. As it turned out, he was a professor and because she was a student, they kept it a secret. She was fine with this for a long time. They’d spend vacations together and during the summer he’d have dinner parties, but she was just deemed as his honor student, never his girlfriend. This was leaving her heartbroken and the two started arguing. As much as Beyza tried, nothing seemed to make things better and finally after two years, the two broke up.

After graduating, she started helping her family with the jewelry store while looking into ads for mermaid performers around the area and mending her broken heart. Finally, she got hired by the one in Bridgeport and started living her dream. Just as she was getting settled in her job, tragedy struck and both her mom and older sibling passed away from a car accident. Beyza put it on herself to put on a brave face for the family, especially her oldest sister, and tried to continue being that light she always was, but alone, she’d allow herself to break. She started helping again with the store and taking more hours off work at the aquarium. Then, out of the blue, her oldest sister up and left. Not knowing where she was, the family was in a state of panic, worry, and grief and once again, Beyza put on her brave face. Even after finding out her sister was okay, Bey felt a sense of betrayal from her sister and refused to speak to her.

To help her dad and be closer to the family, Beyza quit her job and has been working at the jewelry store for the last couple years and while it wasn’t exactly what she wanted to do with her life, she doesn’t mind working there. She helps out at the front and is always that bright eyed girl she always has been. She’s rarely dated anyone since she hasn’t found the time and when she does have time off, she’s usually still at the store helping with whatever is needed, at her childhood home, or even her own home; not really going out and having a social life. However, things took a turn again as her sister suddenly showed up and Beyza has been struggling to be happy with it and still feeling hurt that her sister left them.

As of recently, her dad saw how unhappy she was working at the store with the family despite putting on a brave face. He sat her down and convinced her to go back to her dream. He helped her get her old job back and the last several months, she’s been happier than she had been in so long. She still spends time at the jewelry store, but her focus is back to what she truly wants to be doing.

Harmony sent the stranger a small smile. “Well, in that case then I think you should make it a crown.” She added as she felt that it would make a pretty nice one. She was also sure that being a mermaid at the aquarium would be a pretty fun job. “I can’t say that I’ve made it over to the aquarium yet. I’m going to have to check it out sometime.” Harmony said as she planned to check out as many places around here as she could.  “Nice to meet you, Beyza. I’m Harmony Jones.”

“A crown it is.” She grinned and put the piece in the basket she was holding before focusing back on the woman beside her. “You should definitely come check it out. The marine biologists there are amazing and we have great animals. Plus, I’m usually there doing a show, so...” She smirked with a shrug and grinned at the woman. “It’s nice to meet you, Harmony. Are you new to town then?”

“She grows like a weed, it’s still unreal to me.” Emre shook his head as he got into the front seat and buckled himself into the car. Starting the engine, he backed the car out of the parking lot as she questioned his career choice. “I do like it,” he nodded his head. A lot of the time, he enjoyed the freedom in which he got to spend time with his daughter, his sister and well, now, many friends that he had made in Bridgeport. “Mostly run of the mill stuff, background checks for employers a lot of times. It’s not as fancy as the shows and movies make it seem but it pays the bills. I get some more serious cases, affairs, finding out about past siblings, parents, that kind of stuff too,” Emre explained to the woman as he drove toward the ice cream shop. “It has it’s good and bad days like any job.”

She nodded. “I can imagine. I have friends who have kids and they grow like crazy. I stop seeing them for a week and I swear they are a foot taller.” Beyza joked, but it almost felt that way. Or the kids that came to see her at the aquarium. She would recognize some and they would definitely be older than before. Hearing about his work, the brunette nodded and smiled. “Definitely not what I was expecting, but that sounds great. I’m sure you get a lot of business then.” She nodded. “That’s true. But at the end of the day, at least I get to keep being a mermaid.” She said and winked back at Seda. “So, I haven’t seen you guys around before. Do you live here then or in town visiting?”

“Yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve talked to Ashi but we reconnected when she got back. I don’t know if she told Sunny to come here, but he did and well, I helped him pick out the rings.” Hazal explained to her sister with a smile. “I’m sure she would love that. I don’t know when the big day is,” she told her, “I’ve asked but Sunny is pretty elusive about the whole thing, so I don’t know if they’ve picked out a day yet.” As far as she knew, they hadn’t. “Cake, too?” She rolled her eyes, though she knew Beyza was just trying to help. “If you want. Nothing big and preferably with ice cream.”

“That’s sweet. And I’m sure she did. Even if she didn’t we are the best jewelers around, so.” She grinned and shrugged as she boosted their family up. “Well, whenever it will be I’ll shower her with all the pieces.” She smirked. She loved weddings and love, even if her past made her hesitant for that for herself. “Yes, cake too. It’s your birthday, Abla.” She pouted at her. “Of course ice cream. How could we not do ice cream?”

“I mean I guess you are right” he said not having thought about all the weird ass ice cream names. “But I think people name them after themselves” he said nodding his head. Brooks was always so busy with the ranch, and racing that he never really had all the time in the world to go out and party. So when he did, he did it up and over the top. Nodding his head, he smiled at Beyza clinking his shot against hers, “let’s do this” he said laughing.

“The drinks or the ice cream? Because I’d love to meet the person who did Phish Food.” She grinned at him and danced excitedly as as Brook clinked their glasses together. “Yesssss.” She drew out the s before downing the shot, letting it burn down her throat and scrunching up her face. “God, I forgot how awful this was.” She said and shook her head; fanning herself as well.

“Thank you,” Liv said, a smile on her facial features. Setting Lucas down in the grass, she took one of his favorite toys out of his diaper bag and handed it to him. “We do need the rain, though. Things have been starting to look a little dry.” She loved summer in Bridgeport so much. “I’ll have to bring the kids by to see you, although Jake and Finn may be more interested in the sharks,” she said with a laugh. “I’m doing well. I’ll be six months this week, which I know is hard to believe because I look nearly ready to pop.” She knew she’d have her hands full with a toddler and newborn twins, but she’d manage fine. “How have you been?”

She nodded. “Actually, I saw it was supposed to rain next week, so hopefully that helps some.” Beyza said, but knew what the other meant. It was definitely time for some good rain to help the natural beauty of the town show itself even more. “Well, there’s plenty of those. Just make sure they come grab a coin or two for their treasure.” She smirked as she looked over at the boys then back at the woman. “No, you look amazing. I don’t think I’ll ever look that good pregnant.” She laughed and shook her head. “You’re having twins, right?” She asked, making sure that she heard that correctly and prayed she wasn’t being rude. “I’m good. Nothing interesting going on here. Just working and making TikToks.”

Harmony was at the thrift store trying to find some furniture for the house she was eventually planning on buying. She’d really come to Bridgeport with very little, and she now knew she was going to be staying here a while. Harmony was looking through some stuff and trying to come up with a vision in her head when she heard someone speak. She looked over at the piece of jewelry in question.  “I do think that is is pretty as a necklace, but it would probably look ever  better as a crown.” Harmony told her as she could picture it in her head already. “If of course you have a reason to wear a crown.”

She smirked as the other confirmed it would be a better crown and she put it down a little before still holding it in her hands. “There’s always a reason to wear a crown.” She said honestly. “But, I wear crowns almost every day. I am a mermaid at the aquarium and I make my own pieces for the jewelry and stuff. I think It makes it look more authentic.” Beyza explained what her job was. “And it helps that my family owns the jewelry store in town.” She smirked. “I’m Beyza, by the way. Beyza Senkan.”

“Can’t beat doing something that you love,” Emre found that in talking to others, most people didn’t have the luxury of doing what they loved. As Emre entered his own vehicle after getting Seda adjusted in the back seat, though the seven year old only protested once that she could do it herself. He chuckled as he realized that she was trying to impress the woman in the passenger seat. “I’m a private investigator,” Emre answered her question, “I got into it after working a local police station for most of my high school and college years. It was a lot easier, with Seda,” he smiled at the young girl in the rearview mirror as he began to back out of the parking lot and head toward the local ice cream shop. “More flexibility in my hours.” It wasn’t a lie, per say, but it wasn’t the whole truth. He had just met Beyza - he couldn’t drop his entire life story on her right away.

She nodded. “Exactly. It’s a dream, honestly.” Beyza said. Her eyes moved to the back as she watched him get his daughter settled before moving his eyes to the front to hold in a laugh as the little girl insisted she could do it. “You’re such a big girl.” She said with a smile as she looked back at her and grinned before he joined her up front. “A private investigator?” Her blue eyes focused on his and she was just so interested learning how he got into that. “That’s amazing. And you like it, then?” She asked curiously and nodded. “I bet.” She wasn’t sure if he was a single parent or not, but with him saying he had more flexibility, she thought maybe so. Maybe she’d asked if she could away from Seda as she didn’t want to upset the girl. “What does your job entail?”

Every pay day after she got out the money she needed for bills and other necessities, Beyza took whatever she had left and would go to the thrift store or craft store to anything she could use for her mermaid costumes or just trinkets she liked to have on hand for if any kids wanted something at the aquarium or if they recognized her out and about. Today, she was at the thrift store and she was looking over some of the old jewelry there before she grabbed a necklace and turned to the person closest to her. “What do you think? Keep as a necklace or turn into a crown?” She asked and held the necklace around her head.

It was a beautiful summer day in Bridgeport, so Olivia was taking her kids to play at their favorite park. Her two older ones ran to play on the jungle gym while she held her youngest on her hip the best she could with her pregnant belly. Approaching a nearby bench, Liv smiled. “Do you mind if we join you?” She was six months along with twins and her feet were starting to swell so she knew she needed to sit for a little while. “It’s so beautiful outside today, don’t you think?” Liv had been spending a lot of time thinking about her mother’s illness lately, so it was nice to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and be distracted for a little while. “I love summer here. It makes up for the cold winters, I hate the cold.”

Beyza had the day off and she was out and decided to spend some time at the park. It was a nice day and it never got that hot in Bridgeport, which was one of her favorite things. She was reading on one of the benches when she heard someone’s voice and looked up to see Liv. “Of course. Please, sit.” She said and moved over a little bit to make sure the woman and her son had enough room. “It really is. I heard it’s supposed to rain on Thursday which is kinda disappointing, but I’ll be in the aquarium all day so it doesn’t matter.” She smiled softly. “How are you doing? How far along are you now?”

A laugh escaped Beyza’s lips as she looked at Brook. “I mean, the same can go for ice cream. Like why is Cherry Garcia called that?” She said back as she grabbed her shot glass. It was a rare occurrence for Beyza to go out to the bar like this, but part of her was hoping to run into that guy she got ice cream with the other day. She wasn’t sure if he’d come out like this because he had a kid, but maybe, just maybe, she’d see Emre again. “Are we doing this or what?”

“And I really don’t know what to do with him! I swear Mr. Chesterfield is trying to make my head explode!” The blonde exclaimed in between bites of her empanada. “Like this week, he approved the color palette and then last night he sent me an email at like 11:45 saying he had a dream that meant the green hues had to be replaced. Like what does that even mean?” She sighed, breaking off to notice Beyza wasn’t touching her food. “You okay? Sorry if my rambling ruined your appetite. I’ll stop talking about work.”

Beyza was quiet as she listened to her friend rant about work and picked at her taco. She couldn’t imagine having someone change their mind that many times like that. “He reminds me of that guy in Gilmore Girls that kept changing his mind about his retirement party.” The brunette laughed as she wiped her hands. “Did you ask what the dream was about?” She wondered what kind of dream someone would have that would make them want to change their decisions about decorating their room. “No, it’s fine. I’m great. Just focusing on your story.” She said before she picked it up and taking a bite. “Other than the indecisive guy, how are you?”

“It’s Ashi and Sunny,” she wasn’t sure if Beyza knew them, but she remembered Sunny from his time in Bridgeport, even if it wasn’t all that long. “I don’t know who is getting an invite anyway,” she shrugged her shoulders, not wanting to admit that she also found it romantic. “I can maybe get behind dinner,” she did love to eat, “maybe a movie too. The theater is playing some classics this week, aren’t they?”

“Ashi and Sunny? Like your friend from when we were kids?” She asked curiously. “That’s amazing! I hope I’m invited. I’ll have to contact her and see if I can make her something for the wedding.” She loved helping people and would love to make the bride a piece of jewelry for the wedding. “I think so. We can check out movie times and pick something. And maybe we can do cake?” She suggested as she batted her eyelashes.

Emre found himself smiling at the woman, “Thank you,” he felt like his own cheeks were growing warm as he hinted a blush cross her cheeks. “I certainly hope not,” he would hate to disappoint his daughter in choice of ice cream. Though, she was seven, he doubted that anything about ice cream could disappoint her unless it ended up on the ground. “Absolutely,” he nodded his head, smiling at the woman. He was a private investigator and he knew that it was good to have someone be accountable for your whereabouts. One never knew what might happen. “Have you been doing this long?” He gestured to the aquarium before leading the woman toward his car, unlocking it with the click of the button twice.

She finished texting Celine where she was going to be and who with, just mentioning she met this guy and was going to get ice cream with him and his daughter without specifically saying who she was going with. She started walking with him and looked at the aquarium as he gestured to it before back into his eyes. “Kind of. I started around college, then I stopped for a while and got back into it recently. It’s honestly what I love to do.” She said with a smile as she opened the door to the passenger side of his car. “What do you do?”

“Yeah, it’s romantic, or something like that,” she didn’t see the world through rose-colored glasses and tended to keep people at an arm’s length, especially when it came to romance. Hell, even with Gio, she enjoyed their time together but she refused to allow any feelings to come into play. “My birthday?” She shook her head, “No that can’t be right,” Hazal shrugged her shoulders, “I just had one last year.” It couldn’t be time to do something again. “We don’t have to do anything,” though there was a part of her that secretly loved being the center of attention for a day.

She rolled her eyes. "It is romantic. Who is it? Do I know them? Should I prepare for an invite?" She asked curiously and wiggled her eyebrows at her sister as she was getting excited. Another roll of her eyes came and she groaned. "Come on, Hazzy. We gotta do something. A dinner or a movie night. Even if it's just the two of us."

“Ah, yeah, sorry,” he chuckled, reaching up to rub the back of his head. Having forgot to introduce himself, embarrassment flushed his cheeks. “I’m Emre,” he had been so focused on his daughter, he really hadn’t gotten along to making himself known to the woman. “Rococo’s it is then,” he nodded his head. While he had been in town a while, Emre was still getting the hang of things. Considering, when he arrived at the tail end of winter, ice cream wasn’t exactly on the forefront of his mind. “Oh, well,” he figured it would be more environmentally conscious to carpool, “if you’d like to ride with us, you’re more than welcome but I don’t want you to feel pressured.” Having worked in the police station and as a private investigator, he knew what it was like to get into the car with strangers, though Bridgeport seemed to be lacking in the crime, unlike Indiana.

Beyza continued smiling. "Emre. I like that." She said before blushing and cursing herself for the choice of words that spilled from her mouth. "Perfect. You can never go wrong with Rococo's." She took a deep breath and looked into his eyes. She could go with him and have him drop her off later to pick her car. While she trusted the town and the fact he had a kid, she was gonna text her roommate just in case. "Yeah, that's fine with me. I'm just gonna text my roommate that I'm gonna be later."
