@bhanglassi
Come as you are.
We had some downtime the other week, so went Matt and I went into the studio and recorded a couple of acoustic clips... This song is called "You're Right". It's the opening track on our self released, debut LP out in August. Written by Matt Dewsnap. Recorded, Mixed and Edited by Spoona.
I'd like to tell you a little story...
BhangLassi began with two brothers and an almost broken guitar. It was too hard to work out how to play other people's songs and so over the course of many bleary-eyed late nights, a very modest dream began to form, to write a song of their own. "Wake up still drunk, furry mouth 'n bleary-eyed…"
When you start writing tunes, your goal is usually to put enough half decent chords together to carry you to the chorus and fumble your way to the outro before anyone notices what you ripped off. You make a couple, then you start day-dreaming about putting enough decent songs together to get a gig. Our first gig was a house party at a mate's place* on a candlelit rooftop. "It's got Kings Cross one side, city on the other…"
We kept going and got a couple of "real" gigs, packed with enthusiastic mates and loved ones who sang along despite the sound problems and the broken strings, and even helped us carry our gear out, the legends.
We grew in numbers and wrote more tunes, we scored better gigs and had the privilege of playing some top venues. That first time we played the Hopetoun was a pretty special moment for us but we've had too many amazing nights to count at the Gaelic club, the OAF and of course the Old Fitz.
With more tunes under our belt we were able to start culling some of the filler from our set, we rehearsed more, got tighter and recorded a couple of Eps which were a bit hit and miss. Then after another spate of writing, we realised, we had enough good tracks to record an album, "all killer, no filler". Things started OK, we had a plan, could even agree on what tracks would be on it and had enough mistakes, stories and tunes under our belt to do it right this time. In fact it was all going well….
until we sort of split up... for a bit.
But with a story as long and as detailed as this and an album half-made, we worked out our differences like only old friends can and managed to get it together to get back in the studio and record some more. This went on for a long, long time it seems. Work, family, money and Alex's relentless holidays, all came and went but gradually piece by piece, session by session we laid down the foundations of the album. Our album.
With so much history, time and emotional commitment invested in it, we had to get it right. We tried some different things out, adding more depth and detail than we'd managed before, dropping some songs that weren't working and changing a few things up. We mixed it (twice) and finally, had it mastered properly to do sonic justice to all our efforts We wanted to make something we were truly proud of and hopefully something you lot might be a little proud of too , after sticking with us for all this time.
If by some weird loop in the fabric of time and space you haven't heard it yet it, First Things First, is now online for your listening pleasure over at SoundCloud...
Please give it a good listen, end-to-end, nice and loud, without distraction. We sincerely hope you enjoy it... It'll be out on iTunes and Spotify soon but we'll be at the Fitz this Sunday with a few signed copies if you want one. Hope to see you there.
Cheers,
Spoona

Snaps and Spoona got together the other week and besides swearing off the rest of BhangLassi who were too drunk, busy or far away to play, recorded a couple of tracks on acoustic guitar and a snare drum. No frills, just two mates a few beers and their music. This is a new tune called, 'Chance of a lifetime'. Don't forget to hit the thumbs-up / subscribe buttons if you dig it cause there's a few more on the way...
Spoona and Snaps.
We shot a video for ‘SOS’ in Chris’ bath, Matt nearly got hypothermia, brilliant!
The wait is over!!! - First listen of our new album, 'First Things First'… Let us know what you think! 'First Things First' is BhangLassi's long awaited debut LP. It covers 7 years of song-writing, jamming, fighting, gigs and laughs. Every track on it has made the grade in it's own right, some old some new - but all quality BhangLassi originals. If that's not enough, it's got a couple of little surprises built-in, hundreds of hours of love and relentless enthusiasm. Have a listen, leave a comment, share the tracks. - If you love it, you can support us and buy a limited edition, hand numbered CD or download a digital version with one of our swanky new T-shirts… Sweet! We're planning to host an official launch gig (to coincide with the iTunes / Spotify release) sometime in August...
Rock and Roll till we D.I.E.
We'll have a few of these at the Fitz on Sunday.
We are searching for the new sound....
Loud things.
Shooting a clip for SOS on a budget... (Cold water)
Acoustica turned into a cracking night...

(Can you hear my) S.O.S.
First things first I’m still chasing 24/7 my minds racing Looking for the things that I don’t know
Day by day these walls keep growing Against the tide I keep rowing Which way now does this river flow?
I’ve lost my way I’ve lost my soul I’m just waiting for god to come and take me home (x2) Can you hear my S.O.S.
Night after night dawn keeps breaking I can’t think when my minds aching It’s like some twisted talk show
I’ve lost my way I’ve lost my soul I’m just waiting for god to come and take me home (x2) Can you hear my S.O.S.
There's never been a reason For your acts of treason But i stand by you I'm defined by you It's just another season Of life without reason You’ve got to keep hold of what you’ve got because nothing ever lasts forever
Can you hear my S.O.S. Can you hear my call for help in the midnight hour.
S.O.S. is the opening track from BhangLassi's debut album, 'First Things First'. (Coming soon).
